Excellent repair work for your vintage camera collection. Owner Joe Wojcich is The Man! He tuned up the sticky, malfunctioning Prontor SVS lens & shutter assembly from my 1950s Polaroid Pathfinder Land Camera to perfect working order. (This piece of photographic equipment was state of the art 60 years ago, and remains a coveted item to this day. Crisp, beautiful images come from it, and finding one on eBay will set you back plenty.) Two years later, it still works works like a champ/ like brand new! In addition, the staff communication, prompt replies and quick attention to repair jobs cannot be beat. My camera part was repaired quickly and shipped part back to me (I'm about 100 miles away) within a week's time. I've recommended them to many friends. I am very impressed with Tempe Camera and will always give them my business. My vintage cameras are like beloved pets to me and I don't trust them to anyone but Tempe Camera. In Arizona they are IT. Joe, please don't ever retire! read more

I have a Canon S90 that I bought over internet. My daughter broke it, banged it and lens got stuck in out position and was visibly crooked. I went to Tempe Camera and they took it back, after 15 minutes brought back out fixed. I told them I did not buy it from them, but they refused any kind of payment. read more

I recently needed two rental canon lenses (24-70 2.8L and a 70-200 2.8L) and used Tempe Camera. I arrived in the afternoon a little rung out from the drive from Tucson with a toddler. At the time I arrived the rental guy (Jez with the brit accent?) was helping someone else. A few minutes later, it was my turn and by the time I got my card out to swipe, my stuff was ready and waiting. This was nice since I had expected the worst on a Friday afternoon. ,,,,,,Saturday afternoon rolls around and my event ran longer than expected. With a phone call, my rental was extended to the weekend rate and there was absolutely no hassle about it. I returned the equipment this morning and it was just as easy. I got the use of $3200 worth of high end glass for $80. If you're close to these guys, I'd recommend them for rentals. read more

I really try not to give people gifts that I actually want for myself, it's just that my taste in all things is so damn good, I can't help but feel they too will lust after the same things I do. Which is why my husband ended up with a white Holga last Christmas. If you're unfamiliar, it's a toy film camera from China with a cult following among photo nerds due to its completely unpredictable results. The good news is he loved it and it's lots of fun to play with. The bad news is you have to actually go to a store to buy specialty film (medium format, we usually go with 120). I have been familiar with Tempe Camera since I was a wee community college girl, taking Photo classes at MCC. Back then, you could (I'm pretty sure, though I've put my brain cells through a lot in 10 years) buy film and also get it processed there. Now, they only sell cameras/accessories and film (they also rent and repair cameras and equipment). On my first trip back in several years, I came armed with a sheet of paper of all the 120 format film I was going to test out in my (ahem ... my HUSBAND's) new camera. B&W, color, 800 speed, 200 speed, I was ready to try it all. Too bad they only had ONE brand of medium format color film and only in one speed (Kodak Vivid Color 400) and two B&W speeds (200 and 400 in FUJI) available. And I'm pretty sure I got the very last roll of color they had on hand with no more on their way (I asked if they had some coming in soon or not). I'm sure 120 film isn't a huge seller, but I certainly hoped a specialty camera store for professionals would have a moderately well-stocked selection. I've returned about four more times to buy more 120 film and it's usually about the same selection. As for their customer service, I've never had a problem. They could be a tad friendlier and it would have been great if they offered suggestions or tips on films for the Holga, especially when I kept asking for films they didn't have (for all I know, I'm a dum dum and the films I wanted look like crap with a Holga, and the ones they keep stocked work the best with these cameras). I can't speak to their film prices since I wouldn't even know where else to get medium format film (except online and the prices there seem comparable once you factor shipping). So in conclusion, for my needs they a-ok. read more

This review is only for the photo processing. I had 4 rolls developed and scanned to a single disk with no prints. 3 rolls were 36 exp color film and one roll was slide film. I paid a little over $100(!!) Had I been told that I'd be charged over $25 a roll (for no prints), I would've never dropped off film. Ridiculous. read more

Brought in two camera lenses to have them repaired and cleaned. This lady in charge of the repair section told me that I needed to buy another lens and/or talk with the original manufacturers and that my lens were pretty much good for paper weight. What's the point in a local camera shop if they can't even provide adequate service? Or even attempt to? Her overconfident attitude didn't help so much either. I'd be wary of this place. read more

Do not rent equipment from Tempe Camera! The employee that works in rental is an arrogant jerk, which I can deal with ordinarily, but he/they totally crossed the line for me. Long story short, my camera bag was stolen in northern AZ with a piece of rented equipment, along with some of my gear, in it. The rental equipment was far from new. I did research and found that I could purchase a new exact replacement from the manufacturer, which I offered to buy and give to Tempe Camera, but they went ahead and charged my credit card- without my approval- over $250 more than I could purchase the equipment for, and hung up on me when I called- after telling me they had reported the incident (?me) to Tempe Police (?). So Tempe Camera robbed me again after their and my equipment was stolen! read more

So I have this aging Canon d30 that had an incredibly dirty sensor. It needed its decadal cleaning. I live in Prescott, 100 miles north west of Tempe and was only going to be in town for a day. Called them, they said it might be a stretch but they'd do their best to do it in a day. Drove in, met by Marsha at the repairs counter. "Can do" she said and as I went about my days work in Phoenix, got a call at noon, "Camera is ready", she announced. Went and got it. Visited their sales department to pick up some supplies, spare battery and the like. met John, very knowledgeable, both personable and patient. Good service, knowledgeable and friendly staff - what more could you ask for. read more

I had a mixed bag experience at Tempe Camera. I went to have two point-and-shoot digital cameras looked at to see if they were worth repairing. The two ladies in repair were really friendly and helpful. They were honest that it was not worth the money to repair them because it would end up costing more than a new camera, but then they got one camera working! They even gave me a couple batteries, which was very nice. I then proceeded upstairs to the sales dept. to look for a replacement for my little point-and-shoot that I use to photograph jewelry. The salesman was condescending and argumentative. He made me feel about two inches tall. He was challenging and not at all helpful. It was an extremely uncomfortable experience and I couldn't wait to get away from him, but even after I said I needed to do more research, he kept talking, telling me all the ways I was wrong about the camera I wanted and how I was using it. This seems to be a great place for the professional or serious hobbyist, but my experience in the salesroom was pretty dismal. read more

I went in today to see if they could fix the film rewind lever on my Minolta. It had suddenly snapped off as I was rewinding my film and I was worried that the film would be ruined in order to repair the camera. However the blonde lady at the repairs desk was very pleasant and immediately took the camera back to the repair man. He was able to remove the film without exposing it and repair the lever with a replacement in about 15 minutes. Better yet, he refused payment for the repair. I'm very satisfied that they were able to save film, and I'm pleased with their honest service. Will be coming back again. read more

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my experiences at Tempe Camera. Their repair department is a delight to work with. Marsha was patient and very funny. I had purchased a camera online elsewhere and it was damaged when I received it. She assisted me with ensuring that everything that needed to be repaired got fixed and invoiced so I could bill the seller and get my moneys worth. Her honesty and willingness to go that extra mile to make sure the customer is happy is commendable. She even took the time to not just explain the repairs, but also why they were needed and how they tied into proper camera function. The time frame they gave me was accurate and allowed me to plan my time accordingly. I would recommend them to anyone and appreciate their expertise. read more

Had the absolute best experience w/ Tempe Camera. As a photography newbie, they walked me through the right lens for the project I was working on + helped me through the entire rental process. Will definitely be renting (and purchasing!) from them again in the near future. Not to mention they have great, affordable and competitive pricing for lens & equipment rental. 5 Stars! read more

Will probably never go back. Called and told them exactly what I needed - said cheap models are $60-70 and better models are up to $150. When I got there I was told $200. When I asked why I was told they probably thought I meant something else. Felt like a used car salesman moment. Not cool. read more

I purchased photo accessories when I initially visited the store in 2010. Nice selection of photo equipment, both new and used. Most important asset: personnel. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. One particular person stands out in my mind: Guy R. I listened to him talking to other customers and thought, wow, this guy really knows the ins and outs of digital photography! He was very happy and willing to share his knowledge in a no-holds barred type of way. This may be slightly offensive to the novices, but there are so many out there who think they "know" photography or "understand" digital. But alas, one usually does not know what one does not know! One particular incident really affirmed my belief in this store and Guy R. I was freelance photographing an event, and noticed the paid photographer was fussing with her camera. I walked over and she asked me what settings I was using to photograph the stage event. In any case, she could not figure out how to make the changes in her Canon 1d Mark III to match mine (Canon 1d Mark IIN). So she gets on the phone and calls Guy R on a Saturday night at 8 PM! He patiently answers her questions and she was able to make the necessary changes with his guidance. THAT's what I call service and dedication. I took my dad in to look at some classic camera pieces, and Gary, another store employee, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about this field. My dad was very happy with his purchases. The experiences I have had there have been no-pressure sales and simply informative. They provide suggestions, but are not pushy. YOU end up walking away feeling satisfied with time spent there and purchases you make. Although it's a drive for me to get there, I have been very impressed with their service and selection and will likely return to give them more of my business. read more

The best customer service in the Universe. I brought my 87 year old dad there to have his old Leica camera evaluated by Gary, a member of the sales team. Just when you think there is no longer such a thing as good customer service, along comes Michael at Tempe Camera to dispel all my negative expectations. I drive 45 miles to get to Tempe Camera because I know they know their stuff. I am still thanking God this morning for the amazing blessings I received from Michael in all aspects of his expertise and for providing, in abundance, not only the goods and services I needed right on the spot, but he went above and beyond! The help he gave me all made it worth the gas money to drive there! Now, if only Tempe Camera could clone your great staff there and plant them up here in the far Northwest Valley! Tempe Camera has been in business a long time. They are professional and will always take as much time as necessary to help you buy something or any questions you have about a product. I had a few pictures that I needed enlarged to a unique size suitable for custom framing. I was very limited with file sizes and had a difficult time locating these pictures with large enough file sizes to make these photos easy to enlarge. After being told it would be almost impossible to do what I needed done, Sasha at Tempe Camera took charge of my project and worked diligently to make this all come together. She was very responsive and did a great job of managing my expectations with regard to what was possible and what was not. When I received the final prints I was completely amazed at how beautiful they turned out. They are exactly what I wanted. Fantastic customer service! Brought in my son's camera to find out it was user error. The man was so nice and patient. Highly recommend!!

Developed somewhat of a relationship with the rental department recently. It was helpful having someone to rent from in a good central location. Some items rental prices don't make sense. When one item costs $150 brand new compared to another item that costs $650 brand new why are they both $40 per day? I also forgot to return an item one day late and luckily they called me after the first day but had no one requested to rent it I was hoping our relationship and trust would cause an action of mercy toward my stupidity. It did not and I paid the late fee. Not their fault however I love business that show consideration to your mistake and the fact that you might be back again because of how you're treated. I will look for other options now. read more

I bought an Olympus Stylus TG Tracker at my home in Milwaukee. We traveled to the Phoenix area for vacation and intended to use the camera on the trip. Before leaving for Phoenix, the camera's basic functions were working. Upon arrival in Phoenix the audio no longer worked on the camera. I took the camera to Tempe Camera because they both sold and repaired Olympus cameras. I got passed from employee to employee before someone looked at the camera. After he spent about 30 minutes with the camera he told me he had no idea what the problem could be and told me to call Olympus tech support. How can an organization that sells and repairs this camera provide nothing more than a recommendation to call tech support. I am sure we will return to the Phoenix area, but I have no use for Tempe Camera read more

This company should be a little more considerable to their customers. after spending almost $4000 on a Canon eos R including the lens, extra battery, SD card, lens adapter and lens filter they would not allow a return after i was unsadisfied with the camera its self. their return policy is 20 shutter accusations or 5 days to return it after purchase and thats just not enough time for anyone to get a grasp on whether they like it or not.... After 2 weeks of doing a photoshoot i was not happy with the Canon eos R and am stuck trying to sell it and get anywhere as close to what i paid for. Their company is a scam and unfortunately the only camera store in Arizona. I strongly recommend you take your business elsewhere, to someone who cares about their customers and wants reoccurring customers. read more

My Dad literally bought thousands of dollars of camera's and equipment from these guys From the 1970's until he died in the early 2000's. I worked with him for years as a photographer too and bought a lot of stuff from here before digital photography became the norm. I went there yesterday for the first time in years because my Nikon DSLR dropped, the lens shattered and the camera body looked fine but it wouldn't fire. The lady at the front showed me that the mirror was stuck and that it would cost at least $200-$250 to send back to Nikon and even then, they might find more wrong. I decided to put that money toward a new camera and came close to dropping $700+ on a new one right then. I decided to think about it and today I went on line to see if others had the same mirror problem. There were several video's that showed how to simply pry gently on one side and the mirror would dislodge and the camera would be fine. Sure enough, all good! I've shot several hundred shots today in different modes and they are all great. I'm very disappointed in Tempe Camera. It was such a simple fix yet they automatically quoted me a lot of money that a simple Google search could have shown was the right fix. I'm dubious that they haven't seen this issue before. I'm sad by this behavior because it was actually a pleasant feeling walking back in there so long after my Dad had passed away. Needless to say, I'll never go back there and I would never recommend them again. read more
