When it comes to my craft, I pay very close to the details as photography is my passion. I appreciate the service from Tempe Camera for those looking for local support to get the job done. They are very equipped to handle a lot of services from VHS to DVD Transfer, Film to digital transfer, and prints. Lots of services exist online but I always fear the risk of shipping things out of town. A lot of the memories captured are more valuable than $$$$ so when it comes to my work or my clients, I like to minimize the risk. They are very professional and were able to handle my recent request. If you're still doing a lot of film-related work, then bringing your stuff is here as they have a good turn time. They are definitely one of the better equipped, if not the best equipped camera stores around. I've had pretty good interactions with the sales folks almost every time, and the rental crew is great. Prices for rentals are also pretty competitive when you factor in shipping from somewhere like lens rentals. I live closer to another camera store but I go out of my way to come here read more

Earlier this month I posted a review of a very bad experience I had on a special order framed picture which did not turn out as ordered. I was very disappointed when I was asked to pay a 2nd time since the fault was not mine. A day or so after reading my post I was contacted by the manager. He went out of his way to make this right. Overpriced, slow processing, and rude/negligent staff. I had to go out of my way on three separate occasions just to ask if the film I had submitted was ready and every time I was assured I would be contacted, I never was. I had also left specific instructions on my order that were not followed by the staff. I would not recommend to POC based on my experience and treatment, go digital instead! read more

I really try not to give people gifts that I actually want for myself, it's just that my taste in all things is so damn good, I can't help but feel they too will lust after the same things I do. Which is why my husband ended up with a white Holga last Christmas. If you're unfamiliar, it's a toy film camera from China with a cult following among photo nerds due to its completely unpredictable results. The good news is he loved it and it's lots of fun to play with. The bad news is you have to 1. Actually go to a store to buy film (medium format, we usually go with 120); and 2. Actually pay money to process that film Woo hoo for TCR Photo Imaging, which is conveniently located (at least to me in the East Valley), has reasonable hours and awesome staff. We've taken about 15 rolls of 120 film to them for processing since December (always for a disk, we haven't done prints with them) and not a complaint to speak of. It costs about $4 to process the film and .60 cents per image (they don't charge you for ones that don't come out) to transfer to a disk. I have nothing to compare those prices to, but they seem pretty reasonable to me. Also, we recently took the Holga in because we couldn't get a loaded film to wind after taking about four photos. Not wanting to break it by forcing the wind or open the back and expose our film, we took it to TCR. They opened it safely, pulled the film out (saving our four photos from exposure) and explained that it's a common problem with a piece of foam separating from the inside and getting caught up in the works. They even offered tips on how to keep it from happening again. That's the kind of knowledge you want from your local photo shop. The last time we went in, they informed us they were backed up (though catching up) due to the fact that THE ONLY OTHER FILM PROCESSING STORE IN AZ THAT DOES MEDIUM FORMAT CLOSED. Wow, this is the very last place to get your quirky little films developed, how sad. To find the silver lining, I feel lucky that they are close and that they totally rock! read more

First off, found them quite rude. I had called earlier in the day and discussed film developing and pricing, I told that to the woman working the front desk and she goes 'you called aaaaaanndddd....' in a rude tone. I literally quietly chuckled because it was crazy how rude her tone was. I develop my 120 film at a pro lab in Utah and California normally, as I am a full time film and wedding photographer. I didn't have time to ship the film out and needed the scans right away, so I had to use one locally. In terms of scanning quality, not great. Inconsistent from frame to frame, which shouldn't happen that staggeringly considering most of the 5 rolls were shot with the exact same settings. The sharpening setting was on the scanner is up completely too high. Way too sharp and very unflattering. The color in the scans is way off. Sometimes way too yellow, sometimes way too cyan. I tried to fix the photos in Lightroom, mostly using exposure, temperature and split toning to counteract their tones. Overall in image quality, very poor. Price - $188 for 5 rolls of film done in one day. Timeliness was not a factor, but I paid twice the normal price to make that happen. Other big issue is the way they deliver the files. They only offer them on a disc. If you have an Apple Mac from the past four or so years, you know that they don't have a disc drive. The lady working suggested I buy a disc reader for my computer. Crazy. So I had to go to an office supply store, buy a USB and bring it back to them. Waited for them to develop and scan and then went back to pick up. Huge waste of time considering that every other pro lab delivers via Dropbox, WeTransfer or FTP. I am writing this review because I want them to make it. I want this lab to survive because film is a beautiful and wonderful medium and I have made a living off of it for years. So I would love to see: 1) Nicer customer service. That was an incredibly rude transaction and weirdly she was a lot nicer when I came to pick up the film. Must have picked up on my shocked facial expression. 2) Better scanning. I heard they use Frontier, great. Noristu and Frontier are what my normal lab offers. But why was I not asked for a profile? Light/dark, warm/cold, sharpness level, etc. All other pro labs offer a custom profile. If they do do this, that wasn't explained. 3) A different delivery method. She made the comment that it would be so expensive to do something like Dropbox. I would argue that it'll cost you more not to in the long run because even if the scans were perfect, I would never drop off and pick up a USB/disc every time. Big inconvenience. I know multiple all film wedding photographers in the city who spend $10,000-30,000 a year on developing and scanning with out of town labs. Take that business back! Why aren't they developing here? The above issues are 100% why. Overall, please make these changes and then let us know when you have, we want you to make it! read more

Bad customer service - rude when expressing concerns. Bad quality photos half the time. Will not be returning.

Went there to have an old roll of film processed and I wanted to have some digital images printed, but the guy seemed to have an attitude problem. Maybe, it was because I was not lily white, but he has to remember every customer who orders pays his salary. Five days is what he says it will take to process my prints, but I needed them before then, I asked if there was another lab. He said to go to Costco. read more

They will make you wait for your film no fast turn a rounds but they have good results so it is worth the wait. They can make large prints and they do good quality. I have not used them for touch up work or photoshop work. read more

A little difficult to find, but it's right next to Tempe Camera and right across the street from Oregano's. Like the other reviewer, I was looking for somewhere to get photos processed from my Holga (cheap, toy, novelty) camera. I just learned from her review that this may be the last place in the valley that can process this film - which makes sense considering I took it to a Walgreen's once and they looked at me like I had just sprouted horns. They are highly knowledgeable here. I know practically nothing about cameras (I received my Holga as a gift 5 years ago and only used it once), so I was so glad when there was a guy behind the counter who not only knew what a Holga was, but knew how to get the film out without risking exposure. He was so nice and told me that due to some new equipment they were installing, it would take 4 days to get my prints back. This was fine with me as I was in no rush. 4 days later I got a call and came right in! They gave me back my negatives as well as some beautiful square prints. It all totaled around $14. Not bad for discovering what was on a 5-year-old roll of film! I would recommend this place for any film development needs! I am so glad this place exists because they are truly practicing a lost art! read more

This rating is for the VHS to DVD transfer service. I had nothing but trouble getting a couple of VHS videos transferred to DVD. They farm that service out to a third-party, which I think they should do a better job of communicating. I made at least 5 roundtrips there from Chandler (probably around 10 hours of my time, not to mention the gas). I'd go there to pick up the videos, I'd get home and find there was a problem, then I had to go back to drop them off. Repeat. They got one transferred with so-so quality, and the other was unwatchable. They then said it was the best they could do. At that point I asked for a refund, and at first they said I'd have to work it out with their contractor, and I pushed back saying when I first dropped them off, I didn't know the work was being done by a third-party and even so, they should back up the work. They reluctanly refunded me $16 for one of the videos. Two months and 5 roundtrips later I only had one of the videos transferred. I don't think the $16 refund adequately covered all the time I spent, but I guess it's better than nothing. read more

I am giving this company a three star review because quality has seemed to go down in the past year. I am not sure what happened, but my film prints and my occasional inkjet prints are not what they used to be. Did staff change? If so that really is a shame. There just doesn't seem to be as much TLC going into the product as there used to be. read more

How fortunate that Tempe Camera's Photo Imaging Center -- I believe the only company in Phoenix which provides professional large-format photo printing -- consistently does a terrific job with my digital images. I have used prints created by Tempe Camera for several photo gallery exhibitions. When I first began working with Tempe Camera, I discovered that when printing large-format digital images, they will apply color-correction, sharpness, other effects, to enhance the quality of the image. I was disappointed with this at first, not because I felt that my images were perfect, but because I had performed all of the post-processing I desired before submitting it for printing. When I discussed this with the staff, they recommended that I use their monitor-calibration sheet, perform color adjustments myself after calibrating my monitor to match their specs, and then use their RTO option ("Ready-To-Output"). In using this matrix, the results have been tremendous. They have become so predictable and perfect that I almost don't need to proof the prints when I pick them up anymore. Also, in using the RTO option, prints are less expensive, and prints are typically processed within 24-48 hours. Another user reported having an unpleasant experience with the staff. I cannot say that I have not had a similar experience, but I probably had one interaction like that out of 15 or 20. However, once I am with someone, I am never rushed, ignored, or blown off. My questions are always answered thoroughly and thoughtfully. On one large job, an associate must have dedicated 45 minutes to me. There are times when the staff is quite busy, and it is possible that my one negative experience was when I reached someone in a bad moment... one time. But I think this is a perfectly reasonable trade-off; I will accept one cold experience in exchange for 15 or 20 warm experiences. At the end of the day, for me, it is the reasonable turnaround time, the knowledge of the staff, and the quality and accuracy of the final product, which are the most important to me. I do think Tempe Camera is pretty much the only game in town; how delightful it is that they are also a good lab. read more

I just want to take the time to acknowledge the assistance I received from several Tempe Camera employees. I have never been to this photo lab and I must add I am a novice to printing and the mathematical skills needed when one goes out of the box. I had a photo project I did that was bigger than my abilities to pull off on my own. With the help I received from Tina, Jacob, and Brenda my project was a success. Thank you .
