My first time attending Jury Duty - so like many, I really had no idea what to expect. I spent a…read morebunch of time before arriving researching what to expect. While the information on the Jury summons seemed comprehensive, I still had so many questions. Can I bring in my laptop and do any work (are there any desks). ANSWER - YES - to both. How does the first day of Jury Selection actually work? How early should I arrive? Prior Yelp reviews talk about long lines going around the building. I decided to arrive 20 minutes before my check-in time The parking is at the front of the building - and according to the info provided we are advised to walk to the back for the dedicated Juror entrance - which is quite some distance based on Google Maps view. On arriving I didn't see anyone heading around to the back - everyone was entering at the front entrance. I decided to go there instead of walking around the back. On entering, I asked the security chap at the scanners if it was OK for Jurors to enter here and he said "yes - of course". So... now we know. You CAN enter at the front. After security, there is a staircase to the left with a sign saying "Juror Assembly" (or something like that) - so I went down. My laptop bag went through the scanner without any issue. No need to pull anything out as we do at an airport. I checked in immediately (no line) using some very large touch-screen kiosk (there are TWO) - I just manually entered my Juror ID and clicked proceed / confirmed my details came up and clicked the "yes that is me" button. Then I just entered the large juror area - lots of seats - including some workstation kiosks where many had already setup their laptops. A few were still open so I just setup and got to work. Still not quite sure what would happen next. The main waiting area had many TV's scattered around on the walls - tuned to some "home building" channel. The audio was quite loud - but not too loud. I did regret not bringing along a set of headphones to listen to my own music. There is a quiet room (no TV's) and also a large patio area out the back if you want a more quiet experience. Shortly after the check-in time the Juror check in "Manager" (Lucy) made some announcements and let us know how the day might go. She was both entertaining and informative. On this day we were to wait in the assembly area until the Judges / Courtrooms called down with a need for Jurors. We MIGHT NOT even be needed. But - by law - they needed a potential jury pool. There were just 87 of us there today. Apparently there can be up to 300. We were told we might not hear anything until close to lunch time (12pm-1:30pm) - but if there is a chance we may be dismissed early we may need to wait a little after 12pm. Turns out we were not needed - so the final "roll call" was conducted at 12:05pm when all 87 had to call out "Here!" after hearing our name. Only one person went temporarily missing. They had fallen asleep out on the patio area and did not hear the roll call (despite speakers out there). One of the other jurors went out to find them. If they had not responded we were informed they would have to attend Jury Duty again. After the roll call was completed - we were all dismissed. Although we did not even go up to a courtroom - just being available for the process was enough to complete our Jury Duty requirement. Hopefully, my summary here is useful to others

I was recently here for the first time for jury duty and as luck would have it, I was picked as an…read morealternate juror for a trial. So after trekking here for over two weeks, here are my thoughts... - For me, it's an easy drive getting to this location and the good news is there's tons of free parking; but the bad news is it's really spread out. If you're arriving first thing in the morning, head right for the outskirts at a bit of a distance just to avoid the frustration of driving around until you end up there anyway! If you're returning after lunch or arriving in the afternoon, there will be spaces right in the front. - the first few days I was there, we had to walk all the way around the building to the back entrance (all the front scanners were damaged in a recent rain, with the front entrance closed). Nice long walk and a line to get through security. It was repaired by my second week there. If you're chosen for a trial, you can skip to the front of the security line if running late. - things are fairly organized in the large jury assembly area. A very pleasant clerk gave the rundown of how things work. You're advised not to try to jump the fence if we have to evacuate to the rear of the building for a fire drill, etc. (what?! she said it happens!), there is child care (potty trained up to 18 years old) and a quiet "nap" room (crazy but true - a groggy guy walked out of it during her spiel), and starting on your second day you'll be paid a whopping $15/day plus $.34/mile to/from your house. - I've only seen one set of fairly well-maintained rest rooms on each floor. - Once you're impaneled on a jury, you'll receive more information on probable trial length, courtroom protocol, as well as practical details like lunch breaks, taking notes, etc. The clerk gave us contact numbers to call if you're running late or unable to come in. They take being on time seriously and jurors can't enter the courtroom until all are present. - the quote about the wheels of justice turning slowly is painfully true! Something that has surprised/frustrated me is that there are so many breaks, extended lunches, early dismissals and no court on Fridays! Just for fun, I kept detailed time notes the first week and no lie, we averaged 2hr 58min per day of actual court time on days we were there (and that time included side bars and meetings in chambers!) - a huge negative is that there are only 2 elevators available between the LL jury assembly/lunchroom and the third floor courtrooms AND for the majority of the time, one of those elevators was out of order! To make matters much worse, there are NO STAIRS between those floors! There are stairs between the first and second floors, but then you have to wait for that one elevator to get to the third floor...and it will be packed so you're better off getting on at a lower level. As a result, there are always LONG waits for totally packed elevators - yet another time waster! - we were advised we could eat lunch in the LL jury assembly area which has a refrigerator, microwave and vending machines. We were then promptly informed that the fridge is broken/not working and the vending machines haven't been refilled lately and only contain candy! So my overall assessment is a "meh, ok". I fully realize that things that could be improved upon - more elevators, properly working kitchen facilities and speeding up those wheels of justice - are never going to happen, but hooray for free parking!

One of the biggest advantages was how easy the appointment process was. Having a scheduled time made everything feel smooth and efficient. The clerk who assisted us was friendly, helpful, and made the experience feel welcoming rather than transactional. The setting itself was a pleasant surprise--the scenery created an atmosphere that felt much more elevated than expected and made the moment feel like a much larger wedding. It also provided a great backdrop for photos, which was important to us. All of the necessary information was clearly outlined on the website ahead of time, which made planning straightforward and stress-free. And from a value standpoint, it's hard to beat--it truly felt like a $20,000 wedding experience for just $89. Everything was organized well, which helped the day run seamlessly. There were a couple of minor drawbacks. It can get crowded, especially with multiple parties scheduled around similar times. While the website notes a maximum of 20 guests, it's possible to have more if you're outside--but that can make the space feel tight and limit photo opportunities. Overall, it's a beautiful, efficient, and cost-effective option that still delivers a memorable experience. A great choice for couples looking for something intimate without sacrificing the feeling of a special occasion.

Right before the entrance there's a QR code for the waiting area, and it's honestly a great system. Once you scan it, you can see your place in line, and when it's your turn they'll text you the window number so a friendly staff member can help you. If you need copies, filing, or to register something, it's definitely worth checking their website first and completing what you can online to save time. But if you don't have access, there are three computers available after you walk through the waiting area that you can use. I went in the afternoon during the week and it was incredibly quick; hardly anyone waiting. They accept cash or credit card, and you can always ask ahead if they take personal checks, money orders, or cashier's checks. If you call with questions beforehand, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They record everything right there in the office, and the whole process was smooth and efficient.

If you need a photoshoot, this place will provide you amazing backgrounds. To rent this location, you have to go through the OC Parks to fill out several documents including application and pay the fees for rental, parking, etc. Another thing to know is that you can not sit on or move most of the chairs and tables because it is very old and there is a possibility that it will be damaged. You can bring your own chairs and tables. Most importantly, there is no power outlet so you have to bring an extension cord to bring the power from the hallway power outlet. The park rangers will accommodate everything you need so discuss with them in advance when you receive the permission to rent the facility.

There's plenty of signs telling jurors where to park. I can't believe how many people parked in the wrong place and had to move their car. The summons has the lot address, everyone has a phone. Google it if you're not sure. I was able to check in outside online while waiting for the doors to open. A Sheriff instructed everyone to remove anything metal from their body before going through the metal detector. So many people didn't and this held up the line a bit. These are probably the same people that parked in the wrong lot. Once in the Juror room on the 3rd floor I took a Juror badge and took a seat. They had goodie bags, bottle water, coffee, and pastries since it was Jurors Appreciation Week. Before the orientation videos several judges look time from their courtroom to come to the jury assembly room to show their appreciation. Senator Umberg was also there. It was nice to see all these people. It was a slow day. Not many courtrooms needed jurors. My name wasn't called. Many of us were let go earlier than expected.
