Ok, so I've been to this restaurant several times now. I went several months ago and it was good. Not great but not bad either. My fiancee loves tacos and it's the closest Mexican restaurant. I always get the nachos. The first time I got them they were good. I've been back four times since then, and I don't know what happened, but the food and service got worse. I went several weeks ago, nachos were not good at all. The meat was cold, like it had been sitting in a warmer drawer all day and they didn't have it hot enough. Anyway fast-forward to tonight. I took my pregnant fiance for Valentine's Day. Worst experience yet. I once again got the nachos. (Thought maybe the cook had a bad night the last time). I tried chicken this time. It was terrible, chicken was cold, like the beef was last visit. The chips looked old and off colored. I couldn't even finish my food. I ordered the full size and each time I get less and less food. The chips were soggy already, it was like a pile of goo. How can chips get soggy so quickly? We sat and waited for the waitress to come back to our table so we could get more soda. Took her forever and there was only one other family there. On my way home I got sick and had to pull over on the side of the road. Was the last time I'll visit this establishment. read more

Clean restaurant, friendly and quick service, but the food was not good. Tacos were okay. Chips tasted off and salsa was very bland. Chile relleno was covered in what was advertised as queso but didn't resemble any type of cheese I've ever seen nor did it taste like cheese. Wouldn't recommend or return. read more

We frequently dine at Tele's Mexican restaurant. The menu has many food choices and everything available tastes great. The service is excellent and the ambiance is nice, country style cafe. It's BYOB, leisurely dining and not rushed by the restaurant staff. read more

Tele's in Gilmer messes up our "to-go" order every single time. So after the 4th time, I decided to write a review. Paid for a bowl of queso that wasn't in our bag . The nachos were old and obviously microwaved. We paid 9.00 for half an order. I thought it would be like a deluxe beautiful pile. Nope. All melted together and stale. No thank you. What a great Mexican place off in the middle of no where. The staff was friendly and attentive to us always keeping us in drinks, salsa and chips. I got the ribeye and it was really good and spiced just right and cooked like I asked for it, med-rare. The wife had the three different enchiladas and they were plump and seasoned perfectly and the sauces were good. We had no idea what to expect. Their menu has quite a variety of selections. I have never eaten at a Mexican restaurant that has four cheese dips and a variety of sauces for their dinners. The stuffed jalapeños were excellent and they came on a bed of lettuce with guacamole and ranch dressing. I had the combo plate with two enchiladas with a spicy queso and a chili con carne sauce that was very good. It was nice not to have a red sauce. My wife had Pablo's Enchiladas and totally enjoyed the avocados with the fajita chicken with pico de Gallo over the top. It was truly a real Mexican food adventure. Lots of interesting choices. The service was great and they were eager to answer any questions. If you want a beer or a margarita you will have to bring your own since it's a dry county. A great place. We live down the road, and have a whole bunch of kiddos. We call in huge orders pretty regularly, and they get it all cooked and bagged up to go within twenty minutes, and the orders have never been wrong. They nail it every time. read more

So this restaurant has a really good lunch fajitas special that is a lot of food. For around 10 bucks you can get a combo platter (chicken and beef) rice beans and tortillas and everything is made fresh to order and service is good and on point. This place is the epitome of Tex Mex! The atmosphere is a little bit "hole in the wall" but that makes me love the place even more! Their delicious salsa is a huge selling point as well. Love how "corny" their chips are, very nice crunch and a unique flavor, I wonder if they make them in house? The owner (and family) are all super nice Hispanic folks, they like to hunt and fish just like any other East Texan might.. their service is always extremely fast and efficient, a Tele's lunch might beat a fast food restaurant's time, so if you're in a hurry, stop by! We are not from here and we were starving by the time we made into town. We really wanted some Mexican food. We looked up Tele's and stopped in. This place is wonderful! The food was very good!! Their was five of us and we were all very impressed not only was the service great but the food was awesome! My sone had the fish tacos and seafood salad, my husband and daughter had the cheese enchiladas with chili con carne, my other son had quesadillas and I had the fajita steak enchiladas with rancheros sauce! My God, I had no idea how limited Northeast Texans are in their Tex-Mex culinary experience until I read other reviews of this place!! I had the Enchiladas Mexicanas this evening and it was one of the biggest, blandest piles of crap I've ever eaten. The cheese filled enchiladas had no taste, the "chili" piled on top was ugly, and the pico de Gallo thrown out top had no business being on there. And the beans and rice was obviously out of a can and a box. And this was not the only time we've given this place a chance. Never impressed. Folks, I realize we're 300+ miles from the birthplace of Tex-Mex and even further from the border. But that doesn't matter, you can get better in Chicago. I would give Tele's in Gilmer Texas 10 stars if Yelp would let me! This little Mexican restaurant is just a few miles out from downtown Gilmer. If you're visiting it's worth the short drive. This Tele's is authentic Mexican food that is flavored and cooked to perfection. The decor reminds us of Mexico. Nothing fancy but the food is fantastic, service is outstanding, and the price is very reasonable. I will make Tele's in Gilmer one of my "must go to" restaurants when we are in Texas! read more

It's ok. Building needs to be updated. Service is always fast, food is usually good. Kind of hit or miss.

My family ate here the day before Thanksgiving for dinner. They didn't count on the number of people showing up in large groups so the service was slow. That being said, they kept our table supplied with plenty of chips, salsa, and drinks until our food arrived. The food was good. I didn't really care for the avocado salad as a replacement for the beans, but all in all I enjoyed the meal. I will have to try again when I am in t he area. I just had my last meal at Tele's. The food quality is declining every time I visit. They never came to refill our salsa and chips. When I asked for more she told me that I would have to pay extra for a refill. Then I go to pay and they gave me a hard time when I asked for the senior 10% discount. Our server was delightful. Chips and salsa - always my first test - these were delicious! Salsa with just the right warmth - chips crispy and delicious! I had the Enchiladas Tejanas on the recommendation of our server - it was wonderful - tasty - beans are very good - rice also very good. Before this restaurant became a chain, it was good, especially the fajitas. Today, now that there are several restaurants, the quality of this restaurant has gone downhill. The food is bland and the service lackluster. I would recommend ordering the spiciest dishes you can just to get some taste, and going here only when you are not pressed for time. We have always been more than satisfied with Tele's. Great fajitas and plenty of food and reasonable prices. Service very good. Our last visit, four people ordered four separate dishes and all were satisfied and three took home boxes due to the amount of food. Tele's is dry and allows you to bring your favorite wine or beer. I have paid more at other restaurants and received far less in quality and service. This location is well managed and we have never been disappointed. I do not care for very spicy food but my wife does. Menu shows spicy items or ask for it. Food is definitely not bland but very tastefull. FABULOUS!!!! No, it is not fancy at all. But this little Teles just outside of Gilmer Tx is a special little find. Always so clean, staff humble, efficient service. Most importantly the food is amazing. If you love chili rellenos this is one of the rare places where they are actually homemade (all the tex mex chains are frozen). The guac and shrimp salad is made fresh daily with super flavor., chunks of fresh avocados. My fav are the enchiladas covered in cream sauce with shredded chicken beef on top. Hot sauce is the best I have ever eaten. Local mex restaurants do not hold a candle to Tele hot sauce (we always take an order to go on the way out!
