Worst place ever. Super expensive tacos and very hard tortillas plus very very dry meat and very very messy runny carne guisada!!!

Good portions, friendly people & great taste! I tried this place after seeing it on DoorDash several times. I will definitely be referring my friends & family here. read more

Crazy good!!! I have only been for breakfast tacos (as I live in Florida) and they are huge and delicious! I purchased a dozen tamales to go and they are absolutely amazing! The staff are also very kind! read more

Very large breakfast tacos, but the potato, egg and cheese isn't what I would recommend, and neither is the potato, egg and cheese! Great service and clean atmosphere. read more

The best place in the world, I just hope someday they start online orders. But there's no place like Tejas breakfast tacos.

First time customer, and we definitely will be returning. The food is AMAZING & DELICIOUS. They are not shy on portions. Our waitress was friendly and her service was great. She was on it! We live about 20 minutes away but that doesn't matter. We will be regulars for sure. read more

Incredible Carne Guisada That Feels Like Home If you're looking for the kind of carne guisada that warms your soul and takes you straight to abuela's kitchen, look no further than Tejas Cafe. From the first bite, it's clear this place doesn't just serve food--they serve comfort, tradition, and pride on every plate. The carne guisada was absolutely phenomenal--tender, slow-cooked beef in a rich, flavorful gravy that was perfectly seasoned. You can taste the hours of care that go into preparing it. They were warm, pillowy, and perfect for soaking up every last drop of that delicious sauce. The atmosphere is inviting and no-frills in the best way--focused entirely on the food and the people. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel like family from the moment we walked in. This is the kind of place you don't just visit once--you keep coming back. Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates authentic, down-home cooking done right. read more

Super big tacos! They're yummy and definitely worth the price!!! I tend to buy their tacos because they're big then take them to my mom and her coworkers to eat at the hospital they work at. Everyone loves them and to me it's nostalgic since I've been getting them from here since I was a kid. read more

We have been coming here for years! Every time we have a family gathering, on Sunday mornings we would meet for breakfast before leaving town. It's an older restaurant, but clean. Great little Mexican restaurant for breakfast. The tacos are huge! The salsa has nice heat to it. I always get the machacado plate. Hands down my favorite. Service is always friendly and quick. My coffee cup is always full. One of my favorite local Mexican places to go for breakfast. Never had a bad plate there. Very affordable and did I tell you the tacos were huge?!? read more

The carne guisada is impressive and so are their humongous and homemade flour tortillas. Their chips and salsa are served hot and the service is good. It's a bit far from my hood but the drive is worth it. I am from the south side and I know my Mexican food and Tejas Cafe is it! read more

Service is always friendly and quick. Quaint restaurant. I've been going to Tejas Cafe since the 80's. I've been to 3 locations. We used to have one close to our house, but it moved. Food is always great. Love the large breakfast tacos. So good! read more

The food is delicious. Please don't let the inside get to you. Try the breakfast burritos. Huge and inexpensive.

My husband and I have come here for years. We had our own table & the ladies always knew what we wanted to drink. They brought our hot coffee & cold unsweet tea as soon as we sat down. The food is superb and the staff is very friendly & caring. The restaurant was always clean, the music was enjoyable & the ambience was relaxing. Our overall experience was always pleasant. read more

Great little spot for huge to go tacos. It's probably good to eat there too. But when I go it's during work and I just get tacos. They are always nice and fast. The men in the kitchen are always busy and do a great job. I'm sure it's harder for them to get business because of the huge Mexican restaurant at the corner. I think as far as the tacos go theirs are better that the other restaurant. read more

One of my favs for carne guisada tacos! Been going for years. Always great service. Plenty of seating.

Everyone talks about this place so I had to stop in and give it a try. Well the tacos are big the flavor is lacking. The Picadillo had only meat in it and nothing else. The potatoes were way over cooked and the salsa has no flavor and no spice. The only reason I gave them three stars is because of the size of the taco. Overall I am not satisfied and will not be back. read more

Tejas Cafe - the menu of the restaurant - Mexican Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

Tacos are huge and tasty. One taco will get the job done...... Don't sleep on the carne G!!!! Iykyk....

We used to go there at least once a week, the food was good and the portions were great. The prices have gone up and the quality of food went down in addition to charging extra if we pay with a debit card which is SAME as cash. Now we may go there once every other month if passing by. Since they are charging extra by paying with a debit card, I am taking that off of the tips for servers. Simply the owner is stealing from servers and not from guests. read more

Quick stop for some tacos and a trip down memory lane. I ate these tacos over 25 years ago when in high school. Not much has changed. We all had different tacos. What sets this place apart is the tortilla size and crispy bacon. Breakfast tacos are best with crispy bacon. The salsa could use a little kick and not as spicy as I remember. read more

Service great food well prepared portions are very good . I had huevos rancheros excellent flavor. Machacodo plate equally as good. Great atmosphere would recommend to people. Will definitely be back more times. read more

I don't mind paying a higher price for breakfast tacos if the quality of the food and service deserves it. Tejas continuously provides great quality breakfast tacos (homemade tortillas ) and the staff is friendly. They remember you. The tacos are not your ordinary size either. They are huge. If you are used to getting a couple tacos from other places I will warn you now, just get one. Trust me it's enough. I would show a pic but I ate it too quickly read more

COVID/to go review: We grabbed breakfast here on our way from SATX to ATX, and the tacos were fantastic. FANTASTIC. My husband is still talking about their breakfast tacos. Probably because they were more like breakfast burritos, in size and scope. HUGE, they are huge. Prices were crazy affordable, and they got our order ready right away so we could head back toward Austin for a hike. Clearly we will return; we don't get to the east side often enough, but Tejas Cafe is a reason to go! read more

The best breakfast place in Texas, the people that work there are very accommodating, great Service, friendly and they always have a smile. Only downside is the prices went way up to go for tacos twice in one week now it twice in a month, but tacos are to die for.. lol been going there since I was 12 and I still get the same thing as I did back then wouldn't change it for the world Thank you Tejas for being as awesome-as you've been. read more

HUGE tacos!! And delicious! We usually go to Tommy's, but with them being closed on sundays, we gave this place a try. Their carne guisada with cheese is absolutely delicious! Give them a shot! read more

Huge portions on their tacos! If you get there early, they might have brisket which was delicious. Their carne guisada is always my favorite and super tasty, and their beef fajitas are insane! My buddies and I used to go to the one in Kirby back in the day, and the food is still delicious. read more

Bring your appetite when you go here, BEST barbacoa tacos I've had in a long time!!! You definitely get what you pay for here!!!!

This place is a old family favorite. When I dated my future wife - we would go there. Now 20 years later - the place is still going strong. Great breakfast tacos and good place to stop for breakfast. The size of breakfast tacos is huge. Great size - great taste. read more

Had lunch special #2 with two cheese enchiladas, puffy taco, rice & beans They made it just the way I like it. Great service & refill my tea to go read more

I loved how stuffed the tacos were. They do not hold back. we'll worth the price. definitely coming back and recommending to anyone that need a taco fast. read more

Breakfast was awful. My eggs, huevos rancheros, were overcooked, tomato sauce was awful, potatoes were lukewarm, and beans appeared to come out of a can. They used to give you 2 tortillas and now the prices have gone up and they only give you 1 tortilla that was old and had been re-heated. They provided no salsa or even offered it. To top it all off, my coffee was like warm at best. I complained and they took it away and stuck it in a micro-wave, because when she brought it back, I couldn't even touch it. My wife's barbacoa taco was just not the same. The barbacoa was not hot and appeared not to be fresh. She didn't like it. Coffee is now $2.59 per cup, barbacoa taco is $5.99, huevos rancheros $7.99. I don't mind the price increase, but you have to provide a good product if you expect customers to come back. I won't be coming back to this establishment again. read more

Carne Guisada tacos are amazing and huge! Great customer service. Great place to stay and eat or grab a taco. read more

This morning I called and ordered 3 tacos. 2 potato, egg, bacon, and cheese and 1 beef fajita taco. I was charged $15 and some change. 3 tacos? Ridiculous! Either I was overcharged, or their prices are way too high! They are tacos for god's sake. I would not jave ordered had I known they would charge so much. Beware! Ask for the price BEFORE YOU ORDER! read more

Saw a video on FB about the tacos awhile back and had to try this place out! I ordered the carne Guisada tacos and my wife ordered the papas taco! My sister had the Asada taco and her boy friend had the enchilada plate and a Carne Guisada taco! All of the food was great and the service was outstanding! If you haven't tried this place out you are missing out!! I will return when back in San Antonio!!! This place is a gem!! read more

Tejas Cafe - Carne Guisada!! Excellent - Mexican Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

Saw this restaurant on FB so I had to try it out when I got here in SA. I was about 20 minutes out of the way but I didn't mind bc I was interested on how big the tacos were and how good they looked in the video I saw. The tacos are big and well worth the price they charge (cheap) but the taste was nothing to write home about. The Barbacoa didn't have much taste, the carne guisada was alittle too saucy but the carne asada mexicana was ok. If you're in the area where the restaurant is located you should definitely try it as you'll get your money's worth but I wouldn't travel out of the way to taste it. read more

The only thing that keeps this place from being a 5 star review is that it's in a run down building. The food is always great. I was turned onto it over 10 years ago by a co-worker. I had just learned what chorizo and egg tacos were all about. The guy tells me,"Go up the street and order the carne guisada and cheese. It will be the best thing you ever had." He was right. I wish he was wrong, because this place is my breakfast taco standard. I miss this place. Glad to be home on vacation! Let the tacopocalypse begin! read more

Good tacos and service. My issue charging me .65 cents on credit card when my transaction was already $8.30. So it had nothing to do with minimum charge. Makes me feel like owner is trying to cover rent with fees. I do believe it cost $.15 per transaction. It think that has to be posted on front door in a big print. It was a three by three little card by register. read more

My hubby stopped in and grabbed some breakfast tacos this morning based on numerous recommendations. The tacos were large but didn't have anything special about them. They were simply large, ok tacos. The picadillo taco was just ground beef, no onions, peppers, etc. it was a very bland taco. The Papas (potato) & eggs tasted like over cooked potatoes and unseasoned eggs. The Papas & bacon also had over cooked potatoes and the bacon was more like bacon bits and very salty. The tacos came with red salsa but no green the red salsa was very tomato-y and had no spice. Over all ok tacos but given the much tastier options around here, we won't be back. read more

Stopped here for a late breakfast with my boyfriend this weekend on our way to Austin. We're both huge breakfast taco fans, and after seeing this place reviewed by a friend recently, I knew we had to check it out when the opportunity presented itself. I ordered the potato and egg with cheese, and he went with the carne guisada with cheese and the barbacoa. When we received our order, conversation came to a dead stop. The tacos, as everyone else has said, are enormous. They come with a hefty amount of cheese, which I definitely appreciate, and the use of shredded american over cheddar lends itself to better meltability and a taste that reminds me of childhood breakfast tacos before kindergarten. Even though the tacos were huge, I had to sample a bit of his carne guisada, and I was blown away! I promptly added another to our order for myself, since he was not inclined to share. The meat was tender, there was plenty of sauce, and the cheese perfectly complimented the taco. When it arrived, I knew it was a bad idea but I ate it anyway, stuffing myself and clutching my overfull belly as we left. Needless to say, we did not eat lunch. And you know what? I'm totally okay with that. read more
