I am a retired military veteran. We have been loyal Home Depot customers for years. We have…read morebought all our appliances, washer, dryers, Christmas Trees, tools, etc. throughout the years. Our refrigerator was giving us problems so on Saturday, May 2nd, we went to Home Depot in Sunset Valley to purchase a new refrigerator. The sales person was extremely nice and helpful. We purchase a Whirlpool Side by Side and paid extra for the haul away of the old refrigerator and the upgraded braided water line for a total of $1738.47, which we paid in cash. The refrigerator was scheduled to be delivered Wednesday, May 6th, between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. On Wednesday, May 6th at 6:45 a.m. I get a text, from the delivery people, saying "We're sorry we missed you, Ron." Also stating that they came by at 6:32 a.m. (Which is not between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.). My son goes to work at 5:30 a.m. and I was up since then. I check our cameras and there is no one and no delivery truck on camera after 5:30 a.m. I call the support number on the text and explain that no one ever came to our house at that time and besides that was before 7:00 a.m. Apparently it didn't matter and I'm told they will have to reschedule the delivery to Friday, May 8th. So we'll have to do without a refrigerator for another 2 days. And mind you, we are a family of 5 in this household. My wife calls the delivery people and they tell her that yes they got here at 6:32 a.m. and that they waited for 45 minutes. I look at our cameras again and I see my son leave at 5:30 a.m. and then me walking out at 7:00 a.m. looking down the block to see if I see a delivery truck. There was no delivery truck in site. Then on Thursday, May 7th, I get a text telling me that now the refrigerator won't be delivered until Saturday, May 9th. So due to the rescheduling and the outright lies by the delivery people on May 7th I cancel the order. At 11:49 a.m. on May 7th, I receive an email verifying that I cancelled my order. The title of the email states, "One or more items were canceled from your Home Depot order." And it list the order number (H6570-701438) which is the Whirlpool refrigerator, haul away and braided water line. And under "Receiving your Refund" it states, "If you Paid with a Gift Card, Debit Card, Cash, Check, or Pro Xtra Dollars - Please visit the Customer Service Desk at the Store to receive your refund." So I go over to the store to receive my cash refund. I get to the store, go to Customer Service and I am told that I can't get my cash refund for up to 7 days. I'm taken aback. I advise the clerk that's not what the email says and I can't go without a refrigerator for another week. The clerk calls someone else and I am told the same thing. It is explained that my cancellation is pending. I tell them I'm not pending anything. I cancelled the order. They explain that it is pending until they hear back from the distributor. I tell them that is their problem not mine. I did not deal with the distributor, I dealt with Home Depot. They tell me it is store policy and I respond by asking them to show me the store policy because I have written policy that says I get an immediate refund if I paid in cash. I speak to an appliance manager name Logan. He tells me the same thing. I ask to speak to someone above them. They refer me to a manager who I find out later is named Austin. He tells me the same thing. He attempts to tell me that this policy is written somewhere on my invoice or receipt. I show him my invoice and receipt and he goes through them and does not find anywhere that says that. I show him the email I got from Home Depot that states I should get my cash refund back. Again he tells me that he can't because it is a pending cancellation. We go back and forth about that again. At the end he can't help me. That's when I start making all the phone calls. Here is a list of all the numbers I called; 1-800-HOMEDEPOT, 1-800-430-3376, 1-877-946-9843, 1-877-467-3409, 1-770-4338211. And this is a partial list of all the people I spoke to. Some would not give me their names; Brianna, Abbey, Toni, Juan, Lisa, Eugeana, Will, Matt, Christi, Logan, Austin. I kept asking for a Regional, District, Area Manager and would get the run around. I made approximately 30-40 calls and got hung up on about 10-15 times. There was one time I was told I was speaking to some top manager. I explained my situation and his exact words were, "that's bullshit, you shouldn't have to go through that." He said he was transferring me to someone that would take care of this. I get transferred, the phone rings and it goes straight to the survey, which means I got hung up on. I was told at least 3 times by people on the phone that I can go get my refund only to get there and be told no. Towards the end of the day I reach someone at the store who says they will transfer me to the top manager of the store. I am on hold for over 2 hours.(CONTINUED)

Austin Habitat for Humanity ReStore - I was surprised by the number of rugs they had

I've been meaning to check out the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for years, and I finally stopped in…read moretoday. I wasn't hunting for anything specific, just wanted to see what the place was like. It's pretty much what you'd expect, a big warehouse with a wide mix of donated and new items. There were rugs, dishes, doors, tubs, showers, washers, dryers, fridges, microwaves, and a handful of couches and TVs. They even had sporting equipment and a good amount of wood, tile, and flooring. If you visit often, I can see how you might stumble on some great deals. What didn't land for me was the lack of customer service. The only person who really engaged me was the woman at the front desk when you walk in. She greeted everyone who walked in, and she was warm, upbeat, and genuinely welcoming. Beyond that, there wasn't much support on the floor. The cashier seemed bored and not happy to be there. There's also security at checkout and a man sitting by the door. I'm sure it serves a purpose, but the setup felt a bit odd and honestly a little unsettling. I love the mission of Habitat for Humanity and think the organization does incredible work. As for the store, I'd probably only go back if I needed something very specific.

I want to support Habitat for Humanity. Truly. I've been a fan in the past, and when I was building…read moremy house a few years ago, this was one of my go-to spots. I walked out with some great finds and saved a solid amount of money. But something has changed--and not in a good way. Even back then, there were a few items where I remember thinking, "Wait... this is the same price as new. Or more." I brushed it off as a few outliers. Fast forward to now? It's not the exception anymore--it's the norm. We walked through recently, and I was honestly shocked. I'm talking about worn-out, wobbly, particle board pieces--the kind of items that are one step away from the dumpster--priced at $200 like they're showroom furniture. Dirty, heavily used pieces marked so high it makes you stop and double-check the tag like, "Surely that's a mistake..." It's not. At a certain point, it just doesn't make sense. When brand new items from major retailers are the same price--or even cheaper--there's no incentive to buy secondhand here, even if you want to support a nonprofit. And that's the frustrating part. I do want to support local. I do want to support organizations doing good work. But pricing like this makes it really hard to justify. I'm hoping this is something that gets reevaluated, because this place used to be a gem. Right now? It feels completely out of touch.

Alex was very responsive throughout the planning and execution process, and even oversaw the entire installation. His crew were dedicated and skilled workers who were very kind. Scope of the project included covering an existing concrete slab. Alex made sure to add 3-4 inch rebar dowels every 24 inches and wire mesh to give the new layer something finer to hold on to, in addition to the binding agent for a more firm fusion. We also paid extra for the 3,500 PSI rated concrete given the Texas heat. Further, he extended the sides of our driveway, replacing the paver stone and gravel with level concrete. This also included fixing part of the walkway that had been pushed up by Live Oak roots, which was a tripping hazard, and now forming a smooth transition. Alex was also great when it came to pricing. He was very transparent, and me not being a concrete guy, asked a good friend who's been a general contractor for 30+ years to review the proposal and methods, and follow the work, all of which he said was done expertly. I'd highly recommend Ace for your concrete needs.

Met with Nate in about a built in desk and a built in entertainment center in December and he told me he was booked 2-3weeks out. I said, sure no problem, we can handle it in January. Come mid January, he tells me he needs more time. I say sure. Come February I reach out and no answer. Called, emailed and texted, still no answer (mind you I had already given 50% down to him). Finally after not hearing from him for almost 3 weeks he responded and saying he was just getting started on building the cabinets. It's now mid-March and he finally got to installing the units. But don't expect him to arrive at the time he says. He was consistently 2-3 hours late to the time he promised to be here (which required us to adjust work schedules). First day he arrived at 2:30pm after saying he would be here at noon and then had to come back on a Sunday because he couldn't finish it all in one day. Now that's just the communications part, as for the quality of the work. I have been very disappointed. I had asked for a 1.5" wood top on my desk. After install I've noticed it's a single 3/4" plywood top with an additional 3/4" plywood strip on the front to make it look like it's 1.5". Not only that but because it's plywood there are obvious seams on the desktop. And the front is covered with a veneer which bubbled in multiple places and even though he came to glue it back down still does not look great. There are seams in multiple places where he could have easily gone with a full piece of dimensional lumber instead. There are screws protruding on the side of the cabinets which are the only sides that face out so would have expected the screws to be hidden. He left part of one of the tops uneven, even though I brought to his attention before the painters came, so he had to come back out and fix it and the painters had to come back out and fix the paint again. Also when he put in the shelves after the paint (because he didn't have the shelf pins and had to order from amazon), he scratched up the paint pretty badly in pretty obvious places. I've worked in construction as my dad was a contractor and I fully understand things happen or sometimes things don't work out as planned but for the price I paid I would have expected much higher quality and less chasing to get this completed.
