Quite annoying travelling over an hour into the city for teds trade in service only to be told…read moretheir own trade in estimate system is wrong and losing over a hundred dollars of trade in value despite checking and rechecking the trade in 3 times before even making my way into sydney as im disabled and require a support worker to drive and accompany me. so when i do the trade in estimate it shows one lens as 299 value only to be left waiting and more deliberating and more waiting for them to go oh its wrong, yeah 199 only. if i had known i was going to lose a hundred dollars on trade in i wouldnt have even left the house or needed to pay a support worker. the fact you couldnt honour the price your own system stated was the correct trade in value is a joke, i felt pressured to still do the trade in seeing as i had already come all that way and it wouldve been a waste of money once or twice if i had had to come back again. not to mention support worker availability and cost on a weekend. if your trade in estimate system can be off by over 30%, 1/3, 100 hundred dollars, whats the point of having it.
The values that Ted's Cameras presents on their website "Value for Money" doesn't reflect the…read moredecisions sales staff are making. Ask for a price match and they take away a bonus. The current promotion being a birthday celebration voucher based on camera model is subject to sales assistants selling you the camera at full price no discounts or price matching. Not only that don't even think to question anything as you just get blocked. Buying a $3500 camera body thru Ted's is a take it or leave it deal. It's not the first time I feel that there is an air of arrogance when shopping at Ted's Cameras. If you are new to photography or cameras and want genuine service and trust try elsewhere. By the way it's not about the bonus being rejected it's about respect and service.

Two of his associates were friendly and helpful as I wished to have problem solved . However the initial store assistant was very combative not listening to me explaining my concerns and said the policy was not to accept a returned product!!!!. I didnt wan't to relinquish the lens but just wanted help fixing the issue. My initial contact with a staff member where I expressed desire for him to consider the difficulty I was experiencing with the firmware was diametric .Here was rude and defensive very off putting . I persisted to get help for my problem and fortunatly I was served by a more engaging stall who accepted the challenge to get my equipment to function as they hadn't encounted this particular problem before. When after further attempts failed then JAMES stepped in and whilst I chatted about underwater photography the solution was found and I left very pleased. Message fortunatly some of the staff are helpful but another was very rude and unhelpful.

And once they received it back they said they have no more stock so I would have to wait, didn't give a time estimate. I had to call and email to find out how long it would be and was told that it could be over a month till they order more of the product and didn't care to offer a solution after I asked for one. I'm not a person to ever complain or leave reviews but the customer service is shocking, I should have listened to other people's reviews about them.
While a useful store, I believe it to be slightly overrated. It's certainly got everything a film…read morelover needs, from film (including some scarce ones, though nothing unique in spite of the owner's claims), to cameras (great selection of several formats, many nicely restored), and even processing chemicals and equipment (albeit pricier than some such as Rewind Photo Lab in Glebe). The store's downfall is that all these treasures hide behind abrasive customer service. Whether you're being rushed, told (not asked) to move, or belittled for trying to ask questions (wouldn't recommend for an amateur without someone experienced accompanying you to ask questions for you), both regular staff members (owners I presume) are relatively standoffish and don't really make the store the pleasant place it could be. If you need film, check online or go elsewhere, there are plenty of choices in Sydney with similar prices and more helpful staff. If you're looking for cameras, harder to find stuff, or are an expert in the area, this shop is better tailored to you.

Cameras are a new phenomenon for me, so the thought of walking in to a Serious Camera Shop triggers a feeling of tech-inferiority bordering on taking up sackcloth and ashes and calling myself a Luddite. All I wanted was a case for my digital, and being overwhelmed by the seriousness of the stuff on offer, I asked the nice man where they were. Was very happy to go on from there on my own, but he was extra helpful and insisted on seeing my camera to make sure I'd get one to fit. Clearly 'Knows Diddly About Cameras' was written on my forehead. So I had to bring it out. I was hoping to avoid that. 'It was a present!' I babbled stupidly, trying to cover my shame. 'It's not my fault it's pink, really!' Credit to the nice man, he didn't laugh at all.

Having got there however, I took advantage of the opportunity to give my favourite gadget a long overdue service. A week later I collected a 'waxed and polished' version, complete with new strap (they had a spare and noticed mine was fraying) and working much more smoothly. Can't doubt the centre's expertise - it's been there thirty years (and shows off samples of a good collection of all the versions its seen in that time!) - and the service was reasonably priced. Also appreciated the advice: if a camera's less than $200 or so new, it's rarely worth repairing.

One week passes and I…read moreenquire about my order, they told me that I needed to prove that my transaction was legitimate as a security check - a "security check" on George's side mind you; not the bank (they did not contact me about this, I had to go to them to discover the status). Once that was done, another week passes so I inquire again, and they inform me that the camera is out of stock and is awaiting notice from their supplier. So at this point they've falsely advertised that the camera was in stock, which was the whole reason I decided to buy from them. They also do not honour you purchasing express shipping. I'm in the process of obtaining a refund from them. Be **extremely** careful before considering these guys. They falsely advertise that cameras are in stock, and don't update you about anything like security checks.

Look to the left of Jaanu and you're in an antique camera store. Filled with original Canons and Kodaks in many different classic models, if you're a collector, definitely come and check out the selection here. I recognized the Rolleiflexes because that's what my photographer dad likes using best. I spotted an old school Polaroid for $80 and was dead set on buying it until the crotchety shop owner told me that the film would set me back $38 for a set of 8 sheets. Bloody rip off! After that disheartening experience, I turned around 180 degrees and found myself in a land of peace and serenity. There were indonesian bags, worldly patchwork bed throws and oil reed infusers. I took one deep breath of something rose or lilac scented and instantly felt more relaxed. I'm still not quite sure what's happening there in Jaanu. It's kinda like my WW2 veteran grandfather and my beachside yoga teacher decided to shack up together. But in some strange way, it almost works. I say "almost" because maybe you won't agree.

I have had previous surgeries to my eyes which have given me dry eye syndrome, conjunctival scarring and scleral thinning. I cannot wear normal contact lenses. The last time I tried it was very scary... I literally had to run to a chemist for eye drops and then to the bathroom to take them out because I had intense pain and pulling sensations. I have tried medications including restasis with minimal improvement. My last hope is scleral lenses which are extremely expensive customised lenses that trap a layer of fluid between the eye surface and the lense. The fitting process is intricate and takes a patient person, and although it's not over yet I'm hoping for a positive outcome.
