I ordered a Lowepro Flipside Sport 20L back in Jan 18, 2016 and it took Digi Direct about three weeks to let me know it was out of stock. When I eventually got the email, it was dated after close of hours on a Friday. The website showed the bag being advertised the day before on Thursday. That means someone sat down and modified the website on Friday but failed to let me know before close of business so I could make a new decision. (The bag is still seen on their blog to promote the sale, so obviously Digi Direct thinks the bag is still usable to advertise but not sell.)
Ordered a new bag, the Lowepro Whistler 350 AW as a replacement, and I was assured when I was doing my research and asking questions, that it would take Lowepro 4 days to send the bag in. Now please keep in mind, I asked the online store about the bag, the person on the phone looked up the bag, said it was in stock in a store in Sydney but could not reserve me that one so I had to wait for Lowepro to send a new order which I thought, ok, that's fine. His exact words were "It takes 4 business days for Lowepro to send us stock that we order, we will get this bag in 4 days when you order it." Which means that I would not have to wait long.
A day later, I make the purchase once funds entered my account, I asked about how long it would take as I was assured the day before it takes 4 days for an "in stock" bag to be sent, I was then told that there were so many people ordering it that I would have to wait because Lowepro assigns small amount of this new bag to them at a time and they already made a back order for their other customers and I would have to wait for the next back order, and they said, I quote "We only get a small batch of bags to arrive because Max (Maxwell Australia) only sends us a few bags each time and this is a very popular bag." I am then informed that it would take 7-14 working days for the bag to arrive.
Obviously I call them out on this, and after speaking to two different people, I am then told "Don't worry, you will get your bag when the next order comes in" because they already made an order for other customers and that they expect the next shipment in soon (no time frame given this time) I agree to continue the conversation, and I ask them to charge my card as soon as possible if this is the case. But they will do it the next day as they have closed for the day (even though it was 4:40pm).
I call the next day to check if I can get an email or some kind of confirmation that they have charged my card so I had evidence that this transaction took place, as it is a requirement to receive a receipt of order which I never got. They then tell me they charged my card and that the bag is on its way, it would take 7-14 days because it was so popular and that they placed the order that day. Hang on, wasn't there already an order and I was in line for that? They reply, I quote "We send in the order to Lowepro and they send us the bag, they only send us a few of these bags at a time." (dejavu? I was obviously a bit upset now).
After being put on hold for 5 minutes, the guy I spoke to the day before got on the phone and said "We have more bags coming than orders for them." I asked if there is still a 4 day waiting period or 7-14 days and he sighs and makes a sound of disdain and says "When we had this conversation I said it normally takes 4 days for Lowepro to send us stock, not this bag, you never mentioned this bag." I retorted that I did and that he even looked it up for me and said there was one bag in a store in Sydney but they couldn't reserve that one. He does not address my concerns and says "You will get this bag when the next shipment gets in, we ordered this already and you will get one, it will take 7-14 working days." Confused with his response, I eventually agree and hold them to this claim.
It is now February 13, I made the order on January 18, and I have a 7-14 day wait for the bag to arrive then another 3-5 day wait for it to be posted to me, and I paid more for the privilege.
Digi Direct is good only for prices, but when you expect customer service, that's what you sacrifice for, and honestly, I don't believe it is worth it.
They did the same thing to me with another Manfrotto Lighting roller bag I ordered where it was out of stock but it took some time to inform me that it was not in stock, then it took several more weeks for it to arrive and then almost as long to be shipped, it also happened when I made an order with a walk in store and took months for something from Elinchrom to arrive and then I was denied the "promotion offer" even though I ordered it on time but Digi Direct didn't order it on time with the supplier and I was left waiting because they never told me until after the product arrived and was forced to cancel the order and waited for another promotion and bought it direct from the supplier instead. It was a $4000 order and they just did not even apologise or do something else for me, but ins read more
