If you like frozen whipped cream covered in sprinkles, Teddy's is the place to go. The ice cream in the 99 flake cone tastes light and airy yet much like frozen heavy cream. I asked for it to be covered in sprinkles (or more like drowned in sprinkles- next time I'm going with just the basic 99 cone with a flake inside). A day in Dun Laoghaire, would not be complete without stopping at the South Dublin Landmark that is Teddys. For those of you who've been here before you'll know what I'm talking about and for those who don't get down there for the best Irish ice cream cones (99s) in Dublin! As well as the famous Teddys window there's a small shop with more ice creams, sweets and drinks but most people will be there for the cones and are prepared to queue on a sunny day. (Doesn't happen that often) A walk on the pier with a Cone from Teddys is a must do. read more

This place simply has the best Ice-Cream I have ever had. Ever since I can remember a walk along the Pier has included ignoring all those obvious ice cream trucks parked at the entrance to the pier walk and instead legging it down to Teddy's (which as a child usually resulted in me falling flat on my face and walking out of the shop whimpering with tears in my ice cream) They must make it different or something because I have searched the world trying to find one that comes close to Teddy's but none so far! People think it's fairly pricey but it's nothing as bad as the daylight robbery that goes with buying a Magnum these days. read more

Such a cutie little place, also a must if you're visiting Dun Laoghaire. There's a few around the pier, so you can either walk the pier and get it in the light house, or get one at the shop. The 99 is a perfect when you're craving something sweet. read more

It had to be 5 stars really. Dun Laoghaire pier, sunshine, chatting with your best friend and a cone from Teddys. Pretty perfect! I don't know what they put in the ice cream or if they mix it in some different way...but is truly delicious. It's more creamy than other whipped ice-creams and with just the perfect amount of sweetness. It's served just at the right point between frozen and melting and is pretty pocket friendly at €1.60 for a plain and €2 for a 99. My only problem was that we bumped into someone we knew a couple of minutes later. He had to witness me devouring my cone in a "can't talk-eating" way for which I should apologise. Except I can't. Heavily over rated, the ice cream is stock mixture that EVERY ice cream retailer puts in their identical machine. However here you get to wait for ages on sunny days, which while novel gets annoying. The surrounding area however is 5 star for sure, right down by the sea side in Dun Laoghaire. Worth popping down to check that out for sure, the ice cream, and the store are distinctly average. read more

I am so jealous that we don't have anything like Irish Ice Cream to begin with and Teddy's one ups me and makes the delicious creation of the 99 cone that adds a lovely chunk of Flake bar to the mix??? Blast you!! Even though I was here near the end of October, I made the hike down the pier to Teddy's at least 3 times during our stay for this treat. This place sure is a wasteland now that Scrum Diddly's has opened up.. I remember knocking at the door one gloomy Saturday afternoon to find a frigid and terrified staff member keeled over and slowly preening the antiquated wall menu behind the counter. He coughed as I asked what flavors they had. "Lemon Creme and Gooseberry" "Oyster and Apricot" "Mulberry Crumble" "Fig, Nettle and Peppercorn" I told him that I couldn't help notice how anachronistic these flavors sounded. He harangued me, grabbed me by the shirt collar and pulled me right up close to his face. His tall craning figure now even more apparent. He told me that the youth of today have no appreciation of real flavour. That it was not just our inexperience but our unwillingness to take a step back to times when flavours were harder to source, a time when true imagination was required to make a sweet treat. He referenced the life of JM Barrie, a man who lived simply and seldom experienced real excitement but captivated the world with his Pan stories and the adventures of those who could never grow up. He then spoke of the great uprisings in Paris over the Louisette, the great Parisian terror that shook the civilized world. He spoke of how real humanitarianism grows from strife and struggle. Rebels, die hards and revolutionaries standing out in the face of certain death. Different cultures place different values on human life but our western civilization values it to the highest degree. We shouldn't live our lives in a blind frenzy but should live love and appreciate the things which truly make life grand, that we should learn to appreciate the things that have the power to fascinate endlessly. He paused and let me down. I told him that I was sorry to deride his shops ice cream flavours and said I would have a scoop of the Mulberry Crumble (as it was the flavour I thought sounded least alien). He reached down and swiftly rolled back an impressive scoop. He handed me a cone with a large amount of the yellow and redish brown cream dumped on top. He said he needed to use the lavatory and would I mind watching the shop lest another customer walk in. I said I would and he left to go to the back room taking his apron off and hanging it on a small hook next to the door. At this time, I turned and held on to a small wooden chair at the only table in the small store. I looked around noticing newspaper clippings on the wall, showing awards being handed to Teddy's for "Dublin's Best Ice Cream - 1968" The man accepting the award in the photo was none other than the man himself. I barely recognized him as he had long curly hair and a sleek waxed mustache. All accompanied by a large smile. I looked through the other clippings. "Dublin's Little Gem Award - 1957" "Royal Newly Weds Honeymoon at Traditional Ice Cream Parlor" "Ice Cream Proprietor Saves Beached Dolphin." Amazed I sat down and began to eat the cone he had given to me free of charge. Before taking my first lick I noticed the glaced corners of the breaded crumble glistening. They were beautiful. I could see what he meant by appreciating smaller things. I heard the faint sound of flushing and hurried to eat as much of the ice cream as I could before he got back, to show that I liked it. The pace at which I ate blunted the flavour a little and gave me a quick severe headache. He began speaking but I couldn't concentrate as I was trying to suppress the pain of the headache. He then sat across from me and apologized for the manor in which he lectured me earlier. He told me that he lived alone and has seen his best years pass. He said he was not prepared for death but now awaits it like a man waiting for a bus. "I can feel my energy leaving me." I looked into his greying eyes. They were bloodshot but the pupils were large, still alive with youth. "I've spent my whole life in this shop. I've only left the country once. A boat ride down the shores of North Africa. We hit shore but only saw the crust of the mainland. We were back in Ireland within a few days but I can still remember that red hot Moroccan heat so well. I've only ever glimpsed another life and I know now with my age and staling body that I never will. The only lives I'll ever really know are my own... and the afterlife." read more

Teddy's has long been the ultimate ice cream by the sea however they've not quite kept up with the trend, with new places popping up around Dun Laoghaire, such as scrum diddlys I can't say Teddy's is king anymore. The queues have jumped ship however let's be honest, Teddy's is still on point if you want the basic 99 ice cream or boat, sprinkles, etc and again, with a location by the sea is the perfect stop off as there's plenty of place to sit, chill and enjoy your ice cream. Teddy's is the best ice-cream in Dublin, and probably Ireland. You don't even need to try it to know this. The fact that people are prepared to queue upwards of a half hour, in the 'sweltering' Dun Laoghaire sun, is evidence enough. The first sign of the sun and we strip off to our beach gear and head for the nearest purveyor of ice cream! That's the way it has to be when you live in a country where you never know if the fine day is the summer and when it's gone, it's gone.. So I found myself out for a walk by the East Pier and it was warm and I thought "It's been years since I've had an ice cream. I might wander over and see if Teddy's is open". It was and there was a queue. Quite a queue. It moved quickly and I got my hands on a cone after a not unbearable amount of time in a queue and there it was...the holy grail of 99s. Except it wasn't. It was a 99. The same as the 99 I last had from a filling station down home. Except it was more expensive. the 2 stars are docked for disappointment and price. It's not they're fault I was disappointed...but the hype about it is a little much. read more

Teddy's is known throughout the Dublin area as the best ice cream in Ireland. I am not sure if it is the best as I am really fond of Murphys in Dublin City center, however I can say that it is really good, creamy, soft serve ice cream. Their specialty is a 99 which is a vanilla ice cream served in a cone with a chocolate stick in the middle. The one thing that really makes Teddy's great is the location. All my memories of Teddy's have been buying a cone and crossing the street down to the waterfront and enjoying the ice cream as I watch sailboats off the coast. I was there this weekend and noticed they expanded from the main store to having a van at the entryway to people's park and one on the east pier. People do love their Teddy's ice cream and given the amazing summer we continue to have (today was amazing, hard to believe it is October) they must be doing well. read more

Only came here because it was mentioned on Dun Laoghaire's tourism site. Definitely over-rated and over-priced. It's like the rest of these Yelpers have never had soft-serve before. You wait in line even if it's freezing outside. Service is borderline rude. A 99 costs €1.90. You can get the same thing for half-price (possibly less) at IKEA or McDonald's. read more

Yum. Best ice-cream you'll ever have. The jury's out as to whether they actually do put something in their 99's because there's just no way that something that comes out of a contraption that looks more like a medieval torture device than an ice-cream machine can taste THIS good. A staple of every south Dubliner, a Teddy's ice -cream signals the beginning of summer, freedom and fun. A rite of passage from one school-year to the next when you're young, and just a reminder of those carefree days of yore for the less so, this place is a veritable cult, of which I am a proud member. Teddy's 99 cone. What is it? Soft serve vanilla cone stuck with a cadbury flake chocolate stick. It's 2 euros now, not 99cent euro haha Okay, here's the deal. The ice cream isn't out of this world, but it is very delicious. Plus, the ice cream man is nice and smiley. It's all about the whole experience. You could get an ice cream cone at some store. Or you could play it old school and get one at Teddy's to eat while walking down the harbour. LOCATION people! You really can't leave Ireland without visiting the harbour while eating a 99. Oh and if u keep walking down, there's a place where you can buy fresh crabs and fish. If you're lucky, you can see wild seals. :3 read more

I haven't been to Teddy's in years so the other night after a bag of chips along Sandycove walk I decided to get one. I was really looking forward to it. There is always a great buzz at the shop and it has great reviews in the window. Unfortunately the 99 I got was absolutely tasteless. Maybe I got a bad batch or the end of the machine or something but it was as if they had left the vanilla flavoring out of the mix. The only part of it with any taste was the flake. I'm sure I'll give the place another go incase it was a bad batch but tbh I was very disappointed and wasn't bothered finishing it. read more

It is known far and wide for serving the best ice cream in the land, so you're at risk of social isolation if you don't observe the trend and go get a cone. Used to pop in whenever I was in the DunLaoghaire/Glasthule area but during the late summer I got an ICE cream (sic), not the creamy texture I remembered from before, thinking it might have been a bad day I went back last Sunday and for my E1.50 I got a sour cream tasting ice cream so that's my last visit to this 'institution' - sorry Teddy's, you've let the ball go and there's PLENTY of competition out there to take over your crown :( read more

Today I had my first ever trial in Teddy's Ice cream on Bray Seafront and I am shocked and appalled at how they treat their staff. After working for an hour I was sent to the Teddy's Ice cream trailer in the Star Leisure car park where the manager bluntly introduced herself and then began to yell a list of numbers at me and yelled more when I asked her to repeat what she was asking me to, which was adding up a random list of prices and then continued to yell at me in regards to what theoretical change she would get. Following this she questioned me on when I was available to work, I stated the exact date which she ignored and told me she would meet me tomorrow, after I had expressed clearly I would be available to work after my summer exams. Then she continued to yell at myself and another member of staff to clean and she left, only to return to continue quizzing me about dates, grunted that it wasn't good enough that I was unsure whether or not I would be available to work during exams and took off. I decided quickly I didn't need the job when a customer and his family and a member of staff commented on how rude, unfair and ridiculous the verbal attack had been and encouraged me to complain. I then proceeded into the main shop to gather my belongings in floods of tears where the manager seemed oblivious to how upset I was and frankly couldn't care less. I was also informed the staff don't get breaks and worked insanely long hours. I think this is horrendous and myself, my peers and any person with social media in Bray, Greystones and Dun Laoighre intend to spend our money somewhere where teenagers aren't verbally abused on their first trial. read more

This is an outsider, American's view on Teddy's! My Irish bf took me there and said it was a novelty with Irish people. That is exactly what it is. Granted, the ice cream is good, but it's nothing to rave about in the other reviews. If you are in Dun Laoghaire and walking by, sure, stop by the window and get a cone. It's part of the experience, right? But to me, again as an outsider, it seemed like your standard soft served ice cream. The funny thing was, my bf posted a picture on facebook of me getting my "first Teddy's" and for the rest of the weekend even people I didn't really know where dying to hear what I thought of Teddy's (I have a heart, so of course I said I loved it). Again, it's all part of the experience. If you are in Dun Laoghaire and the sun is shining you might as well get an ice cream. But it's like that place you used to go to when you were a child and looked forward to - that hole in the wall place that you thought was amazing. You'll always see it differently than others. So - all in all, if you are there, and fancy an ice cream you might as well get one because let's face it - in Ireland when the sun decides to come out you might as well take advantage. read more

Simply Dublin's best whippy. The queues snaking all the way down the road and around the corner at the People's Park is testament to how good the cones are here. They are always giant, best as a ninety-nine with a Cadbury's flake, and ideally enjoyed strolling down the pier or soaking up the sun on one of the benches looking out to sea. read more

This Ice-Cream Shop is to die for! I grew up in the Glasthule Area so this shop is my life! Especially on a Hot Summer's Day a 99 always goes down nice and cooling despite that I love Teddy's Ice-Cream Shop all year round it's delicious! Definitely 5 Stars! read more
