I needed a new dentist since it didn't make sense to travel all the way to DT SF while working from home. This was the first time in years that I got more than a minute with the actual dentist (rather than a hygienist, office assistant taking x-rays). I was nervous since it'd been awhile since my last visit (thanks COVID), but it was all very calming. Dr. Low is VERY thorough, and explains a LOT about dental hygiene and teeth-- at first it felt like "I know I know" but even I, at 39 yo, learned some new things about brushing my teeth. Unlike some other dentists who felt like were trying to upsell, Dr. Low is straightforward. The office isn't the most sparkling new, but the service received was solid. I'll be back! read more

I like the high-efficiency basic set-up of this office. Dr. Low is the only dentist, and his admin person is Jenny. They are a no-nonsense, no frills, no pressure outfit. I have teeth cleanings, basic dental work, and once had a tooth pulled here while Dr. Low passionately talked about the Oakland Athletics. He's a big fan, very opinionated and knowledgeable. This animated conversation really took my mind off the unpleasant process-- I dare say, I kind of enjoyed it. The pink decorations of the office are done by Dr. Low's daughter (circa 1990?), and the sweet retro feel cracks me up. Called to ask about booking an appointment twice. No return calls..... I saw they take denti-cal and asked about it but apparently they don't care about their lower income clients. If they aren't taking anymore denti cal patients they should say so on their website and on their phone voicemail. Simply not returning inquiries is a terrible way to run a business. I really liked my visit at Dr. Low's. I've been adamantly anti-dentist because my previous one hurt too much and would do the typical "you're bleeding so much because you don't floss" saying and ask me questions while she's in my mouth (how am I supposed to answer them then?). When I went to Dr. Low, he was very calm and felt like he could be your dad. He's very knowledgeable on the dentistry field and helped me understand more about my teeth. He recommended that I brush with a "extra sensitive" tooth brush because the harder ones will make me bleed more and won't give my gums enough time to heal! He helped me make changes and understand their importance, instead of complaining and not helping me improve. He talks a good amount, asks you questions about your life, but isn't too invasive if you don't feel like talking so much. read more

Ted Low must have been my dentist for 4-6 years by now. Boy, time flies! He does a great job on my teeth and I enjoy chatting with him. I appreciate his calm demeanor and low key office environment. Best dentist I've been to hands down. I recently changed my dental insurance as I got a new job. I visited 4-5 other dentists before Dr. Low and they all gave me very skeptical advice regarding some impacted teeth. Having had enough of these establishments trying to milk as much money as they can from you and your insurance, I finally did a good week's of research and found this place. I booked an appointment here and was greeted warmly by the doctor and his receptionist. It's a very simple dental office. One doctor and one assistant, but very effective. I dropped my x-rays off to Dr Low one time when I passed by the office; it turns out he takes his lunch from 1-2 PM. He was very friendly and said he'll do what he can to assist me when my appointment comes. He doesn't suggest unneeded treatment just to milk your insurance's and your money. When my appointment was finished, I even asked if I needed things like deep cleaning and the like. He said maybe for one or two areas, but overall no. He was very clear and approachable in when I asked questions. 5/5 stars. This is a dentist who cares about his patients, not about the money. read more

Awesome dentist. My mom developed toothache on a Friday evening. She only has medi-Cal denti-cal. We found Dr. Low through Yelp & the denti-Cal web site, as dentist who does take Denti-Cal. We were not able to get through on the phone. In desperation, we dropped in. Dr. Low was so kind. Upon hearing that my mom was in pain, he agreed to squeeze her in, well aware that with Denti-Cal, his profit is minimal if any at all. He took x-rays, made a diagnosis and recommendation. This was probably the most disappointing dentist experience I've ever had. And I've had 5 dentists since I've moved so much, so that's saying a lot. Dr. Low needs to get with the times. The office has very little technology. They don't take credit or debit cards and they send you a hand-written bill for the expense not covered by insurance. The cost of a cleaning is $105, but he doesn't do much cleaning. His techniques are old fashioned and my teeth did not have that clean feeling when I left. Dr. Low is like an elderly relative that tells stories, and goes on and on and on. Although all the stories are about how to brush your teeth. I'm 29 years old. I think I know how to brush my teeth. He recommends brushing 3 times a day, but then talks about how people brush too much and ruin their enamel. I did not like the suggestions that he gave me to brush with a soft toothbrush very lightly with a sweeping motion. I will not be going back to Dr. Low. I fear that my dental health would decline if I kept going to see him. read more

Ted does it all. Not with a lot of fanfare, not with a lot of space, but where it counts - in the mouth - he does well. He's patient and thorough, and an amiable person. He's no-nonsense if he thinks you need to change your dental hygiene habits, though - which is something I view positively. I don't need my dentist to stroke my back and tell me I'm doing great if I'm not. I can see some people being turned off by how old the office feels. There's not a computer to be seen, and it's been a while since the walls were painted, but the equipment that does the business is all very up to snuff. As is Dr. Low's knowledge. One small indicator of a larger truth about this office: On the wall, there's a diagram about how to brush which gives outdated advice (about brushing side-to-side on your teeth). Dr. Low has crossed out the old stuff, and written in new stuff (about brushing down only, away from the gums). Decor stays the same, even if the actual dentistry doesn't :) Being a small business, and only a couple of people, they're also flexible. I have called last-minute before, and gotten in the next morning after Dr. Low came in even when he wasn't scheduled. They're an honest business, they deal well with insurance, and my mouth is properly clean when I leave. read more

Dr. Low gives you an education with your teeth cleaning! No non-sense, no-frills, but a whole lot of good information about how to take care of your teeth. He did a nice job on my teeth too. And no cavities! I felt completely comfortable here, which is more than I can say for most of the dentists I've been to in my life. Give this man your business. I spent a lot of my childhood in a dentist's chair, have had a lot of awful dental experiences and as a result, have always dreaded going. However, Dr. Low has completely changed my opinion and given me my first positive dentist experience... EVER! I completely appreciate that he is old school. His receptionist is really nice and his office is very basic and non-pretentious. He is extremely friendly and actually spends time with you, unlike most doctors and dentists who can't wait to rush you out or send you your next bill. He spent time with me, educated me, didn't lecture me and even made me laugh! He didn't pressure me, try to sell me anything or make me feel bad for admitting I don't even own dental floss. I left his office in a good mood, in spite of the fact that my gums were bleeding and I have 3 cavities! I am actually looking forward to getting them filled! And I just have to add that to find, in 2014, a dentist that takes his time and does ALL of his own work without a hygienist or assistant of some kind is unheard of. Haven't been to the Dentist in a long while. Ted made me feel comfortable and was very informative. Answered all my questions thoroughly, laid out all my options before me, even if the next procedure would be done with him or not. He makes you understand things with witty and funny comparisons. I saw Ted's scheduling book and it is incredibly packed! No joke. This makes sense since he is one of few good dentists that takes Medicare in the whole area. Do yourself a favor and make your way if you're in the area to make an appointment. Dr. low is the best dentist i have had in my 50 years of going to the dentist!!! He see me exactly on time. For instance today my appointment was for 9a and he was ready at 8:55a. (Every other dentist has me wait for at least 20 min). De low does not try to upsell me expensive cosmetic dentistry that i do not need. (I was thrown out of my previous dentist office for not accepting additional upsells that my insurance would not cover!) Dr low is very friendly, gentle and does all of the work himself. He explains everything that he does and takes his time. He makes you feel as if you are his only patient! this place was a big let down after traveling all the way from San Jose... They look like a rundown place that might steal your liver so watch out. I was looking for a place that took Medi-Cal and then I found this place on yelp. When it comes to health services I'm always wary, but since finding a place that takes Medi-Cal is a specific and tedious project, I decided to try it out. I went to the office and it's like a little hole in the wall place. The interior is pretty small and a bit clustered, but the actual work done by the dentist is great. He made me feel comfortable and treated my like a patient that he'd had for years (it was my first visit.) During the exam he gave me a lot of information about how to care for my teeth, which helped a ton. I thought it was better than listening to the cleaning tools the entire time. By the time I was done, my mouth felt amazing and I felt like I'd gone to dental school for an hour. I'm going to go all out and give 5 stars here, just because I really, really hate going to the dentist, and this was one of the first times I've gone to a dentist and not hated life. What everyone has said about the sort of strange, outdated decor is totally true. I don't care about that in the least. It was the first time I've gone to a dentist, any dentist, and actually had the entire appointment performed by the dentist himself, from X-rays to cleaning to instructions. Usually I have waited for a long time, then sat alone in an exam room waiting, then a dental hygienist comes, does the X-rays and cleaning, the cleaning usually hurts a lot, then I wait a lot longer and finally the dentist comes, takes a quick look at my teeth, looks at the X-rays, points out anything that needs to be pointed out, and leaves. The whole experience is stressful to me. Dr. Low's office is the opposite. I went back as soon as I'd finished filling out the first-time paperwork. He did the X-rays, showed them to me, then did the cleaning, very gently, all the while explaining proper dental hygiene habits and techniques, some of which I had not heard before. He gave me very solid advice on how to solve my recurrent gingivitis problems...the last dentist I went to ended up getting me to pay $250 out of pocket for a scaling and antibiotic shots in the gums, which only helped temporarily; this time I did not pay a penny out of pocket, no expensive treatments were recommended, his solutions included regular flossing and going to the dentist 3 times a year rather than twice if the problem did not improve. He also said for whitening just use Crest Whitestrips...several dentists have tried to "upsell" expensive whitening treatments to me. He also explained why my teeth are not white (braces stripped the enamel) which no one had ever told me before. He is very calm, very patient, very professional, and since he is there with you the whole time, there is none of that nervous, anxious anticipation sitting in the chair waiting for someone to come poke at your gums. My husband had an appointment the same day and liked him, too. We will definitely continue to go to Dr. Low. read more

Dr. Low is an incredible dentist, providing thorough and attentive care. He conducts the assessment, x-rays and cleaning; the latter of which I was especially pleased with. He takes time through these activities to help you understand how to take care of your teeth and prevent dental diseases. Dr. Low is exactly the kind of dentist I've been looking for! He was friendly, thorough, and provided sensible, clear advice without lecturing. He did my x-rays and cleaning himself. A huge bonus for me is that he did not try to pressure me into tooth whitening, deep cleaning or any other expensive add-ons. Best dental visit ever! And I don't mean just the results of my dental checkup, but the quality of the time I spent with Dr. Low. Because it'd been several years since my last checkup and I'm somewhat new to the area, I had been in a quandary on who to see. I chose Dr. Low based on his proximity to my home and other yelp reviews. Dr. Low cleaned my teeth himself, taking his time to undo several years of stains, plaque buildup, etc. He was thorough, and at same time provided great tips on oral care. I always thought I knew all I need to know about brushing, flossing, etc., but Dr. Low provided much need information in a thoughtful way. I never thought I was being talked down to or criticized. He provided all the information I could imagine needing for near and long-term dental care. For the first time ever I felt empowered to ask questions about my own oral care rather than feeling like I was being told what someone else felt I needed to know. And best of all, I felt respected as a patient despite having obviously letting some things go over the years. I'm looking forward to my next visits for needed work. He is 5-Star. read more

Dr. Low is a great dentist. But, if you are going to the office to see the latest equipment , well this may not be the place for you. However he takes the time to educate you on what needs to get done. He will not do unnecessary work, and go over what needs to be done, and then give you the option on how you would like to do. I've been seeing Dr. Low for two years and the more I see him, the more I appreciate his thorough, attentive care. Dr. Low completes all aspects of the dental visit (except reception), cleaning, x-rays, assessment of overall oral health and education on how I can better care for my teeth and gums. Unlike many dentists, Dr. Low does not try to sell expensive procedures and products though he is knowledgeable about all the latest science on oral care. I never had an appointment because I couldn't get past the very difficult secretary. I was in need of a crown being put back on, and she was not interested in helping me. She had not heard of my health insurance, and didn't want to bother helping me out. She was very rude and insulting. I went up the street (2 blocks) to Scott Mc Kinzie (Family Dentistry: Mc Kinzie Scott DDS), and they were amazing. Called my insurance and took care of me within an hour. read more

I don't know what's wrong with this Dentist but he seemed to have a problem with me as soon as I sat in his chair. He had a bad attitude he raised his voice and snapped at me because I said I needed new dentures. I was sent to him through Denti-Cal to confirm if I needed my dentures relined or needed new ones. I had not worn my dentures in 5 yrs. and my gums had shrunk tremendously. Every dentist I had been to said I needed new dentures. It was left up to him to say whether I would get new dentures, he told Denti-Cal I only needed relines therefore leaving Denti-Cal no other choice than to deny my claim for new dentures. This visit was in July 2014, after appealing I won my case and am proud to say on Jan 6, 2015 I will be wearing my NEW dentures....With NO THANKS to Dr. Low. Although this happened 6 months ago the experience has been eating at me and that's why I'm writing this review months later. read more

My family's been going to Dr. Low for years. Although the office is pretty retro looking, the cleanings, fillings, crowns and other services are excellent. He performs all of work himself and gives good advice. My youngest kid once had to get a tooth extracted and was very nervous about getting it done. I have never had a dentist who is as passionate about what he does as Dr. Low. As far as I could tell, he doesn't work with a dental hygienist, and does all the work on his own. Dr. Low talked to me the entire time about proper dental care - and I thought I knew it all, but took the time to explain anatomy and so much more (not brushing hard, using a soft bristle tooth brush, brushing specific teeth in specific directions, the importance of drinking water, etc). I learned so much and made sure to pass on the knowledge. i I hadn't seen a dentist in a while, but overall my teeth were in good shape overall and did x-rays to make sure everything was okay. At the end of our session, he gave me options about some potential wisdom teeth and cavity work that I might consider in the future, with straightforward and honest price points. I also learned that he accepts Medicare/Medi-Cal/Medicaid, and it's so nice to see a quality doctor willing to provide care to this subset of patients. Easily the best dentist I've ever had! read more
