Ted and Wallys was conveniently located across the street from our hotel in Omaha so being the ice cream lovers that we are, we had to give them a try while in town. This spot is charming and cute. it definitely nails the classic ice cream parlor vibe and on the warm evening we were in town there was a good size line moving quickly through the store. There were a ton of flavor options, but this time around I went for a classic root beer float. Something about an old school ice cream parlor just seems to scream at me to have a float and so I obliged. The float was good and hit the spot, and my daughter had a small chocolate ice cream in a cup. Both tasted great! 4/5 stars only because I thought it was really expensive for what it was. I think after tip it was almost $20 for a float and a small ice cream, which felt pretty high to me. Maddie helped us out by reccomend us her favorites, giving us options to meet our cravings, and being patient as we held up the line of customers (lol, indecision!). After trying a few, here were our favorites: #1 Lemon and Graham Cracker - this tasted like a whole lemon bar in one creamy bite! It was balanced between the sweet and the tart tang of lemon, with a Graham cracker finish. Absolutely wonderful. #2 Pistachio and Green Tea - more pistachio in my opinion, but had a clean and strong flavor without tasting artificial at all. I think this nutty and herbal blend is great for those who don't want anything overly sweet. Personally, we mixed it with the : #3 Dutch Chocolate - pretty standard flavor, but with the creamy churned texture Ted and Wally's is known for! Mixed with bites of pistachio, it was a decadent choice. I love Benson, and the seating area outside is great for people watching and enjoying the fresh air. The artwork inside is always fun to peruse, and the building has the local business vibe that allows you to feel how personal it is to it's city. Stopped into Ted and Wally's when visiting family in Omaha and was very impressed! I ordered the Malted Mint Oreo ice cream and it was so creamy & flavorful! My 2 year old also enjoyed his ice cream very much! I loved the look of the shop as well-very vibrant and colorful. Plenty of indoor seating and even had a cute little patio outside. A wonderful addition to the original location in the Old Market. The larger kitchen allows for food beyond the home made ice cream that is their hallmark. A converted gas station allows for a cute, creative, and quality establishment now in the Benson neighborhood. I hadn't had Ted & Wally's since my college days, frequenting the Old Market - so stopping into this Benson location was a real treat and a blast from the past! The exterior and inside were so bright and vibrant with pinks, greens, and whites - just like I remembered from the original location. My old favorites were still there: Vanilla Bean, Dutch Chocolate, and a new favorite - Vanilla Coffee Bean. My husband also got a new flavor to try - Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispy! Our treats were fabulous, obviously very homemade (and made with love), and of the highest quality. They partner with a ton of amazing local vendors for their ingredients - and also for some of the food they serve, like a menu from the Taste of New Orleans Food Truck that's parked outside. I have a tip to share with you! There's an organization in Benson called BFF, for Benson First Friday. As you may have guessed, it organizes an event in Benson every First Friday of the month to celebrate art, music, and local businesses. It is a very reasonable price to join and one of the perks is that you can get a free scoop of Ted and Wally's delicious, house-made ice cream. There is an ever-changing chalkboard menu featuring classic favorite flavors as well as unique new flavors and styles if you are in the mood to change things up. As a bonus, this location shares their space with Taste of New Orleans, a great local business serving Cajun food. They are in an old building that used to be a gas station. I always love when a local business operates out of a historic building. This helps the Benson area have its unique vibe. We've lost so much of this in the Omaha area in general, so I think it's really important to support these great places. read more

Ted and Wallys is a fixture in Omaha, both it's downtown and Benson locations. I personally came here because I had a large craving for a milkshake and this is one of the few ice cream shops in town that does milkshakes. The decor has an old-school soda fountain charm, and you can even watch them churn some of the ice cream in the front of the shop, the milkshake was absolutely delicious, although I did find that their flavors available were a bit more off-the-wall/non-standard than I was expecting. I have had their ice creams, from plain vanilla to "coffee and donuts". Their ice cream is very creamy, and their waffle cones are the best in town. Also, at the Benson location, the BBQ joint that shares the space is delicious! I wish there was a bit more consistency on flavors, we go here a lot expecting something that we've had before and it's usually not there. I love that they switch things up, but it'd be nice if they had 4-5 flavors that were always available. I like the roatating menu here, as it often differs from the Old Market and that provides some nice differences between the two. Otherwise, Ted and Wally Benson looks remarkably the same inside as the Old Market location- identical in fact. It's a little creepy. The people are just as friendly and I almost cannot discern any difference between the two except that this one serves some food. My most recent scoop was the Chevre, which was a light goat cheese ice cream with minimal sweetness but a lovely mild creamy taste. What a funky little find! Still new to Omaha, we are on the hunt for a go-to ice cream stop for the whole fam. We have nothing but chains (e.g., Cold Stone) out in our neighborhood (NW Omaha), so we tried this place. It's in such a hip little area (omg does saying hip make me sound old?!). They had a really fun variety of flavors - grape soda, ginger ale, marshmallow something. The flavors were almost too wild for us, as two out of the 3 of us got their basic chocolate and the third got mint choc chip. It isn't their fault we prefer more traditional flavors! But then you're probably also not the kind of person who lives for ice cream. If you do live for ice cream, and don't want to go downtown... Now you don't have to! With this second location in full swing, do yourself a favor and get here now. It's a quintessential stop on any version of an Omaha frozen dessert tour (and decorated identically to the downtown original). You'll find a plethora of flavor options (try samples!) with any type of cone or dish you might hope for. Today I enjoyed the ginger-mint. Localmotive may be a little less familiar. In some ways they were Omaha's first food truck, and after experiencing some ups and downs, they're back in action downtown and have expanded to share space with T&W's new location. There was a time where that truck was a weekend ritual for us... But now that we spend more evenings after 10pm at home, it's nice to have a midday and early evening rounder option. And what ARE rounders, you ask? My favorite way to explain them is that they're like hush puppies, but stuffed with delicious fillings. Imagine a Reuben sandwich in the palm of your hand (plus three others). All for $6! Or maybe cordon bleu, or macaroni & neon yellow cheese. That was weird. But no less delicious. read more
