Especially when you compare cost, this place wins hands-down! As stated very generous portions with large chunks of their add-ins. I'm a cookie dough fan and their candy shake is amazing. They have an indoor and outdoor area to sit. Large outdoor area of the Wabash Trail is very convenient coming back to the trail head. I've seen reviews about the staff and can confirm probably some high school aged kids working. Give them a break. They are learning and the service industry can be a tough one. My daughter and I went to TT this past weekend as we both had a craving for some iced cream. I have been here a few times over 20+ years and it's a really good experience every time. Instead of waiting outside in the wind, my daughter and I went inside to take a look at the menu and figure out what we wanted. The young employees were super nice and cheerful, which is a great thing to greet your customers with upon entering somewhere. Since they were going to be closing for the season, they were out of a few things, sadly my marshmallow was on that list. After gathering my thoughts for a couple minutes, I decided to order a peanut butter malt. It was good but I couldn't taste any malt powder unfortunately. I should have just went for the old fashioned chocolate malt but oh well. But my daughter got a mint malt and she really liked it. TT has been around for years and years and looking at my most recent experience, I can tell why. We'll definitely be back. read more

Definitely rating this as an ice cream joint, as I feel like the bbq/food is secondary (maybe they would disagree with me!). The "crunch" cone was delicious! It was a soft serve cone rolled in a mixture of sprinkles, peanuts and some other delicious mystery bits. Also had a very good cookie dough shake. The shakes and malts seemed to be the hot items from the other customers. We also ordered a bit of food, and I would say it was average, but again...this seems to be an ice cream joint that does food on the side (think Dairy Queen). Also, 4 stars earned for location...right off the Wabash Trace trail. Great place to grab an ice cream and walk the trail literally 50 feet away. Came here because I was craving ice cream but didn't want to mess with DQ or orange leaf. Read the yelp reviews and I think the 2 star rating is very harsh and is nothing like our experience! My husband got a chi ole banana that's literally a frozen banana dipped in chocolate. It's simple but perfect if you don't want a lot of sweet! I did a chocolate strawberry malt (chocolate syrup but vanilla ice cream) and it was perfect! I did the medium size and it was still a great amount. For both items we only paid $4 (with tax!) which is way cheaper than we would've gotten elsewhere. Check it out for yourself, we plan to come back for sure! Tastee Treat is one of those great neighborhood ice cream shops you visit for a summer nightcap of ice cream with a side of nostalgia. This establishment dates back to the '50s and offers up a variety of grill fare along the lines of BBQ, sandwiches and fried sides. For dinner I order a BBQ combo consisting of a sandwich, side and drink for $8.88. The BBQ sandwich is a Rotella's bun with BBQd pork, chicken or brisket. The combo is splitable if you add dessert into the meal equation. They get bonus points for offering unlimited sauce. Ice cream is the real draw for me. Their malts are hit and miss; be sure to ask for extra malt powder just in case. Otherwise, their soft serve is tasty and the price is right. They also offer hard packed ice cream options. The ambiance inside and out is rustic, with a handful of booths and televisions inside. There is additional outdoor seating at benches in the back. Service has been consistently good. Tastee Treat is located conveniently near the Wabash Trace Natural Trail trail head and just 1 mile off I-29. A note: I'm frustrated that a 1-star review lacking details on a comprehensive experience brings down the rating for this place. First to review??? This place is packed all the time! My wife and I have stopped in twice in the last two weeks -- twist cones both times. I've also had their raspberry malt -- wow. Whoever made it didn't mix all the powdered malt mix in completely so there were all these little pockets of malt powder in there. Wow. Sooooo good. What a authentic little relic! For 32 years TasterTreet has situated on the Wabash Trail. Tastee Treet hits the spot! Delicious soft serve and shakes along with BBQ! The service was pleasant and the atmosphere was clean! I love their outdoor seating and land scape! Best of all, they are dog friendly with their walk up window! Their food is not made on site, however. But the flavor is still pretty good! They cater to hose of us on low carb diets! Best of all their prices are very affordable. read more

Staff is friendly, but not in your face all the time... they just give you what you want when you want it. Only 4-5 booths inside with a table outside. I was quite surprised to see such a good menu with a great selection of foods and drinks. It looked fairly small from the outside. Once inside I realized that there was booths for customers to relax and enjoy what they had purchased. The servers were friendly and efficient. And according to my son-cute! Their take on the DQ Blizzard, was very good. More size choices was nice too. This place is great! I had the BBQ brisket sandwich combo with hush puppies. The sandwich was great and the hush puppies were perfect. You normally can't find BBQ this good without spending a lot more money. The only problem I saw is the building is very small so be prepared to order to-go or eat in your car. We only went for the ice cream, but found it to be underwhelming. It is not made in house, which we learned by watching one of the young ladies fill the ice cream machine before we ordered. I ordered a candy malt shake with M&Ms, and the ice cream tasted chemically. AWFUL! We have Daily Deal coupons for them, and the woman assumed we were trying to use 2. You know, to scam them out of a WHOLE $10!! Like it wouldn't have been worth it even if we were, as many times as we go there, not to mention our family and their families, too. Anyway, she was very rude to our 14-year-old son about it, so we cancelled our order. Admittedly, my husband was short with her--she had chewed out our child! When he got there to pick up a different order & talk with her, she exclaimed that he was very rude to her over the phone, not mentioning how rude she was to a child just before. Also, they went ahead and cancelled that order on their own, too. My husband also brought up that we have been there many times with no problems, and she basically called him a liar because SHE's never seen him before. We found that humorous, as she has taken our order almost ever time we've been there. Finally, they finished the food that should have been done already. As my husband walked out the door, she yelled, in front of everyone there, "That's the way the coupons work. Deal with it!" Unbelievable!!
