I paid about $400 for the repair on the AC initially, which didn't fix the problem. I took it back and was quoted and ADDITIONAL $1,500 to replace the compressor. (That would have made this an almost $2,000 air conditioning repair.) Industry average cost is less than half of what they quoted me. I took it to another professional and had it done for $500, where they found another issue with the AC that Phil's either never mentioned or never found. I brought up my gripe with Kris directly and was met with hostility. The shop wouldn't communicate via text or email and instead responded to my requests for explanation of costs only by phone or in person, which I assume is because Kris wanted twist words to spin the narrative. To quote him, "Don't you remember me saying x, y, z." It genuinely felt like I was being gas-lighted and manipulated into feeling "wrong" for questioning their pricing and being upset that they charged me $400 for something I didn't need. I would never send someone to Phil's Undercar after the experience I had there. I'd suggest you avoid them like COVID-19. (Which their staff didn't seem to be bothered by enough to wear masks, by the way!)

By the way I had to do that another 4 or 5 times, it all appeared to the new mechanic, as I'm sure it would have to you, as it not being done correctly to begin with, I had to agree. In regard to the exhaust that was put on I appreciate the wheelchair discount I wasn''t expecting it, nor did I realize it, but Thank You! If you also remember I had to come back twice also within a short period of time, to have new welds put on, due to failure of the one weld that was holding up the whole exhaust tail section. If you also remember there were at least three exhaust mount points available to be welded, but weren't. It eventually was fixed, and for that I Thank You. The reason why I didn't come back to have you put it up on a hoist is because all the hoses are now replaced and the old greasy dirty bolts aren't greasy anymore because they have been cleaned due to the new repairs, also I wonder why the old pump was never shown, if it's for reason of core charge it could have been presented to me then returned for core reimbursement. That single thing would have answred it all.

They sent me the invoices, from them it appears their time estimates are conservative which is great, for instance they can replace a timing chain in 5 hours which is a hell of a lot faster than I can do it! It is my opinion the costs are hidden by the price of parts. The subframe on my Saab was replaced in April, the charge for the part which was used was 1,080 dollars. Here in the south I can get 5 for that price 1,080 dollars. The worst part however is for around 1,080 dollars you can actually buy a brand new OEM subframe. What about a PCV valve for 50 bucks!? The superseded part number to the one in the invoice, in other words the newer part number, costs 12 dollars. Keep in mind that Saab parts are not hard to get contrary to what you may hear, the factories are still pumping a lot of them out. Make of my review what you will, but I personally would not take my Saab to this mechanic.
