BAIT & SWITCH & EXTORTION I recently purchased a TomTom Go Live 1535 from Tech Source on Gerrard St. I have the flyer showing it as new, and $89.99. The driver software would not load on my Mac or on my desktop PC, it was faulty. I took it back and they tried installing on their pc and they came to same conclusion, it was faulty. They offered store credit or a cash refund. I still needed a GPS, but I could not afford the next model's up at $149.99 so I went with a refurbished Garmin Nuvifone A50 for $69.99. It did not come with USB cable to connect for map updates so they charged me $9.99 for that, leaving a credit of $11.32. When I got home, same problem, it would not download the driver to either my mac or my pc. This time when I returned, the owner was impatient and dismissive, and in fact left mid conversation to deal with another customer. He said, "look, you can have the ones for $149 for $130 all in or take your money back and go I cannot waste anymore of my time on this." I told him I would first research the two options he was presenting and would return. I returned today, and now they want $146 instead of $130 like I was promised. This was upsetting so I said I want my money back. The store clerk said ok, you get back $68. Where he gets $68 from I do not know. I have two receipts, the original showing $89.99 plus hst, then the second receipt showing a trade down to $69.99 model, the $9.99 USB cable and the remaining $11.32 store credit (it says clearly, STORE CREDIT). The clerk refused to look at the receipts and see that $68 did not add up, that I had not received any cash refund and was owed $101.68 refund as I was promised. He refused, said he didn't understand the math I was talking about, this despite his earlier claim to be starting a Master of Electrical Engineering this month, but he could not understand the basic addition and subtraction printed on the receipts. He said he would call owner and have him come and deal with me as I was EXTREMELY IRATE, including threatening to call the police on them. The owner got on the phone with me and said go have a coffee and I will be there in 5 minutes. I stupidly left the GPS I was returning with them. When I returned, the owner refused to look at the receipts and when I said fine, just give me back the GPS I brought today for return, he looked at me and said "What GPS, you didn't come here with anything.". Unfortunately for him, his staff member Mahmoud didn't understand the bosses sarcasm and intent to steal my GPS, and picked up the GPS from behind the counter and offered it to me. Before the boss could realize what Mahmoud had done, I took the GPS back. The owner then charged around the counter and called me a thief, hoping everyone would believe him. (note, after I left to go for a coffee, 3 customers left without buying anything and said to me that I should follow through and call the police because what the store was doing was dishonest.) I said fine, let's call 911. He backs off. Then as I go to leave, he follows me and again says it's all on tape. I reminded him EVERYTHING was on tape, including him/his staff taking the GPS I left, putting it behind the counter, then bringing it back out and handing it to me. Again, I said sure, let me call 911. Again he backs off, 'uh, uh, you're crazy." So I left but he followed me, said he'd take down my plates and call police. I had had enough of his threats and called 911 myself and when they answered I offered him the phone and said "go ahead and tell them I stole, go ahead". He refused to say a word, so I hung up and left. When 911 called back and I told them what happened, they said that is "not theft, that was your property and you within your rights to take it with you. I would advise you to leave with your property and consider not returning and doing business with them". I am now stuck with a defective product, again. Just as shocking as all of this is that after they tried and failed to get the original $89.99 TomTom to work, they knowingly put it back on the shelf to sell to the next sucker, who will get the same choice of upgrading to a model $60.00 more in cost, or downgrade to a refurbished product which will also not work. I find this very dishonest, and only serves to prove my contention that this is a very unscrupulous company. I would like to get my money back and return their defective refurbished GPS. As far as I'm concerned, threatening to call the police and report me for theft if I didn't hand over the GPS that was still my property is an attempt at extortion. He seemed to really think that I would just hand it over and walk away with no gps and no refund just by threatening to call the police. The fact that he backed down when I called the police says something, I believe, about his lack of morals or understanding of extortion laws. read more

Everything thing is so cheap because it's refurbished and with a extremely short warranty. But refurbished does not just mean to check something and throw it into a box. Refurbishment can be a good deal when done right. They also sent the wrong blu ray player, it was dirty, remote etc. Only plus was the one they sent was a better model (luckily). Tried to order a coin sorter, over a week went bye with no shipment no confirmation, no response to our communication though their web site. So we had to do a dispute with pay pal which was at least resolved quick. I thought I had found a good place for deals, I was wrong. read more

This company is shady AF. 100000% do NOT recommend. I brought my phone in to be repaired today in perfect condition and when I got it back the back of it was scratched so badly that the paint is completely gone in some areas. When I phoned to find out what happened they yelled at me, accused me of dropping it off like that and then hung up on me. In just a little over 12 hours after I left this store, I received a phone call from my financial institution (the fraud dept) saying they need to cancel my credit card and issue me a new card due to a "SECURITY BREACH BY A MERCHANT!" . They were unable to say who the merchant was and what they did, but it was quite obvious considering this store had that particular credit card information and I don't use it very often at all. The boss had also taken down my license plate number, where I will be filling out a report with the police just so they have this on file if anything else happens as recommended by a friend of mine who is a police officer. read more

I order from there online store and i couldn't believe this business is still afloat. After i placed my order i didn't get any receipt, invoice anything not even in my account info. After 3 days i decided to send customer support an email. no response so i sent another and another. Finally i just decided to call i was told to call back another time so i did, again the same answer. I was told numerous times they were busy and they would call me back that day with answers but never in the 3 times i was told that did they ever call back. After the 10th day i demanded to be told about my order he was ridiculously rude and told me he doesn't know if the item i order 10 days ago was in stock but if it isn't he'll refund me by the end of the day then hung up on me right after that sentence. They don't know how to fix phones. Paid $100 to have my iPhone screen repaired. They said it would take 45 minutes so I waited outside. When I returned 45 minutes later the kid behind the counter was still working on it. I was told 10 minutes every ten minutes for almost an hour. They guy was clearly struggling to put the new screen on (perhaps he'd been watching how to videos on YouTube for the first 45 minutes?). When I eventually took it home the bottom half of the screen wasn't working. I could use a number of functions as a result and the upper half of the keyboard was overly sensitive. Would definitely not recommend. Have since taken the phone to Empire on Danforth to have it replaced correctly. read more

It's great to have a good tech shop in the neighbourhood. Went there on boxing day because of their good prices on most of their products. I purchased 2 PNY SSDs for $139.99, 5 additional power banks and an iPhone 5 cable, I received a receipt for the SSD but not for the power banks because they were paid in cash. The iPhone 5 cable didn't even last for 3 days and 2 out of the 5 power banks (Lifebar 10) were defective. I went back to the store and they told me that I had to calm warranty on the power bank through Antec except Antec said that I needed a proof of purchase (receipt). I tried talking to the sales representatives in the store and no one could print me a receipt because, "You paid in cash, which mean you paid no tax, I can't help you." If you want to buy quality products don't come to this store, I'd rather fork out an extra $10 and go to Best Buy, at least you'd get better customer service and proper warranty. tl;dr If you can afford their products you might as well spend a little extra and get higher quality and better service at Canada Computers or Best Buy. read more

The prices look great, but the service is non-existent. I ordered a Nikon S9700 at a great price. They took my PayPal payment immediately, but that is the only action they took over 15 days. I was twice given delivery delivery dates after being told that they had received shipment of the camera from their supplier. After the second date passed without delivery, I called again and was told the item had shipped and I would receive a tracking number that evening. I asked when it had shipped and was told they didn't know. Minutes later I received a refund from PayPal without further explanation. My husband went to TechCity yesterday and bought refurbished Samsung S7 Edge phones. There was a kid who mostly helped us and he was great. They gave us free glass screen protectors and they matched a sale price they had listed on Kijiji. When we were there they mentioned there is a 30 day warranty on the refurbished phones but no warranty on the screen for physical damage so we made sure to check the phones out for a few minutes before leaving. I mentioned that my screen didn't seem to be as responsive as my husband's, they said it might just take a bit since the phones had been laying around so we went home. When I got home it didn't get any better, I played with the phone for a couple of hours. I was super stressed last night and today as I kept thinking that they might fight me on the return/exchange. We walked in tonight and there was a new guy. I told him the problem and showed him my receipt and he was super quick to grab me another one and even another glass screen protector for the new phone. Just as a note, there seems to be a little room to negotiate on price. The phones were a great price and they still threw in the screen protectors and gave me a discount on my case. Based on this experience I will not hesitate to purchase electronics here again. read more

Don't ever go to this store - not a worth of time and money. I gave them many chance to prove other reviews wrong but same result UNSATISFIED. I bought from them a refurbished cell phone and guess what after i paid almost $200 including tax for a samsung phone in December last June it's no longer working. Another thing is that when you buy something from them you cannot return the product what is that. I had the worst experience with this company. Bought two phones off them as a Christmas gifts. Advertised as unlocked and 1 year manufactured warranty. The staff assured me they were unlocked so me trusting people too easily believed them. They had to be unlocked for the recipients of them because they live in Europe. Turns out they weren't and Upon checking imei number of both with Apple they had no warranty left, and were sourced from Rogers and t mobile USA????. I was embarrassed when I found out this and upon calling the store many times and kept being told to call back later and "give us some time and we'll look into it". All I wanted was the phones to be unlocked as advertised and what I paid for and they could do this with imei no hassle but they kept pawning me off. Upon the mention of the words 'consumer rights board' they got all defensive and wouldn't play ball. I didn't even have the energy to pursue anything with these guys, they are pure crooks. I have never wrote a bad review and work in retail and service industries and know how easily this whole problem could have been solved in 2 minutes if they just had the common decency to please a customer who forked over $1700 cash, and give that customer what they paid for. I ended up paying for the phones to be unlocked for my nieces at a cost of €160 (220$) just so they didn't have to have useless gifts and that was after a month of trying to talk to any of these guys. I read the reviews before I shopped and I really wish I had taken heed of them. Trust me now if you are reading this. DO NOT SHOP HERE. I have left out a lot of this review eg. Names of staff there because I honestly don't think they use their real names and the "HEAD OFFICE/HEADQUARTERS is a fictional place too I reckon. Just don't because if anything goes wrong these guys do not stand over there product and don't look after you after cash has changed hands. I had the most obnoxious experience today. My SONY Xperia Aqua M4 screen had cracked, but the phone was fully functional and I took in for repair at Tech City. Karan, the rep behind the counter is soft spoken rep and assured me to fix it in 2 hours for $120 plus tax. There was a young chinese guy sitting at the end of the store repairing my phone and it looked like he was struggling, however, it was bit late for me to withdraw as he had opened the device. Two hours later, Karan tells me that the screen they had, won't match my phone and they need to order a new one. At this time, my phone was opened with completely broken screen and not functional. I was baffled that the Tech City took no responsibility of this situation. The owner Amjad Chaudhary (Tech Source + Tech City) barged into the conversation and spoke with me with threat in his tone. He was rude out of guilt and said, take your phone away and we can't repair it until next week. He seriously lacks customer service. I lost all my data, my phone is in their custody and I don't know what to do now? Be alert and go to buy small products if you like, but not to trust anything important. read more
