They are problem solvers! They are nice too, and even a little fun if you enjoy negotiating a deal, which IS totally what you should be doing when shopping there. I was absolutely desperate for a cheap laptop, and the used HP ProBook they dug out for me solved my nightmare. After a few days of use, I have yet to find any operational issues. Sure, there are a couple of iffy F keys I would never use in addition to a no name power adaptor, no manual, and, I had to upload some apps to get back to business, but you should expect these types of things when you are paying less than 25% of a new one. ** UPDATE AFTER REPAIR ** Everything was fine. Now my phone decides it doesn't want to fast charge anymore. Will be taking it back AGAIN tomorrow. I stopped and recently came back to buy a Galaxy phone from their sister company techcity (dont mistake they're the same your receipt from techcity is a tech source canada receipt). It was a "unlocked" phone. It worked perfectly fine for the first 2 weeks the the SD card kept corrupting. I tried a few Google suggestion - and happened to find out that the ROM they used is not verifiable. Due to it being flashed improperly and being an at&t phone. So under their 30 day warranty I took it back. The attendant waived any fee - i found this comical as why would I pay for a defective product's repair under warranty. He then also admitted that they get 1/10 defective phones from their "OEM" ... that is BS or you'd get a verified ROM LOL! Either way I signed the repair agreement and came back 2 hours later. Met by the technician (not the attendant) who then asked me for $20 for the "software" he needed to purchase. Well if you didn't install BS software we woudln't be here let alone i signed an agreement saying I'd pay nothing AND it's UNDER WARRANTY. What annoys be about this is the blatant screwing around. Had it been and elderly folk etc they'd pay necessarily. I mentioned I was a long time customer because until as I've come to find recently they've hired new staff and the old guard is MIA. As such avoid this place at ALL costs. We know what we buy from here is generally refurbished and thus may run into issues. But before, they stood by their short warranties and didn't try to scam people out of $20 here and there. BAIT and SWITCH!! STAY AWAY for any phone/electronics repairs!! Quoted me 130 for repairing an iPad - cracked screen and slightly bent cover. Claimed the LCD underneath needed to be replaced - gave them the benefit of the doubt - also, it was May 30th, 2021 and all other repair shops were closed due to stay-at-home Toronto order. Next day they claimed the repair (done already) costed them more therefore I would have to pay 170 - which I did. As they handed me the iPad, I noticed a crack in the supposedly new replacement screen. It took another day to fix that. Third day, when I came to get my iPad, one of the volume buttons was not working anymore. I was told that the cover which I just paid to be fixed now needed to be changed for another 100 something dollars. Total repair would've amounted for more than the value of the iPad, so I said enough. I ended up with 170 out of pocket and a not functional iPad. This is nothing short of theft! read more

Being not too tech savvy, I went into this store with a specific technical requirement with description on papers. It exactly said what I need with the detail specs and asked for someone to help me find it. A decently dressed Pakistani man (could tell from his accent that he is a Pakistani immigrated via Africa) greeted me gesturing Paul will be able to help. While waiting for few minutes it seemed that Paul will take lot longer as he was helping some other customer with bigger challenge. So another South Asian, tall, long-haired man, who appeared like a "wanna be" model who missed his last boat offered to help. I showed him the paper and he comes back with the product. I looked at it and asked for the letters (from the model number) that were missing in this model that he was showing me and he confidently tells me that this is the right one and I need not worry. It's the best one and that I should buy it without doing any compromises. It was the most expensive option in the store, but because he highly recommended I agreed to buy it. Meanwhile, I also needed an external hard drive. Again, he flaunts his hair like pretty girl and brings me a box speaking highly about it and by now I felt that he is a cheap sales man who is over doing it. But I didn`t pay attention to his cheap style of communication and focused on the two products I needed. When I got home to use that specific product, it kept showing me error. SO after a few attempts, I called the 1-800 number that was on the pack to seek technical help and yes, they assured me that it is a wrong product and it`s crucial to buy the product exactly the way I had written it on that pice of paper I took along to Tech Source at 1012 Gerrard Street East. Not only that to my surprise, the external hard drive box that was put in the bag was a open one and with some scratches on it. It was working fine, but I didn`t pay for an open box. So I went back immediately, asking for refund and I was shocked to the kind of response I got. The long haired guy said, that we no longer can give you any refund because the boxes are open. One the product was sold to me with incorrect endorsements and misleading information. Two I was sold an open box in disguise. I tried my best remind them about their responsibility, but all in vain. I've bought a few cell phones from the Gerrard square location. So has my daughter and bf. I bought a samsung s 7 about 6 months ago. Right away the phone was getting hot when I went to make calls. Or used it. That was the first problem. The phone jack didn't work. Had to go back and they replaced it for free. I've taking the thing back at least once a month to complain about the over heating. Was told don't talk on it and play on your phone. Then a phone my bf bought there stops working. ( wasn't that old)Black screen. They said there is nothing they can do. He updated it and now I'm out $300 this was a samsung s6 My daughter decided to up grade. She buys iPhone 4 for $400 Right away. Battery sucks. She doesn't complain. So I didn't bring it back. Wasted $400. Because she jumped at the chance to get my old phone. I bought the egg fryer. S7. I gave her my s6. She is happy I've had this phone for 6 months maybe 7. The issue of the over heat never went away. I asked the guy should a battery help? He said yeah. My bf dropped his phone he bought an s7 from somewhere else. I replaced his with one I bought online just for the screen. So I took it in. The guys said yeah all that for $40. No problems. Take data from his phone to new one. I went down to Tech Source last weekend to pick-up a new computer mouse. As an occasional customer, I have been quite satisfied with my visits over the last few years. Most of the time, I have gone to get some inexpensive accessory, such as this mouse or some DVD discs. When I was looking for a new tv, I did check out what they had, which was mostly lower-end models. Although I ended up buying somewhere else, their prices were pretty good for what they had. When I was looking to repair or replace my desktop computer, I did end up buying a refurbished model for less than $200, and I have not had any problems with it after about 2yrs. Overall, I find the store quite satisfactory for my needs. Admittedly, my visits are few and far between, and I haven't ever tried to buy anything from the online flyer that other reviewers have complained about. But I would say that the service I have received is also satisfactory; I have never had anyone that wasn't helpful enough. read more

My sister Was sold a 400.00 used air conditioner that was broken from the start. When we called them they told us there was nothing they can do unless she wanted to lose $50 for no longer having the box's and $100+ in restocking fees although my sister was told it was a brand new AC and that she had a year warranty on repairs and stuff. I can honestly say that this was the worst retail experience I have ever hand. EVER. EVER. EVER. DO NOT go and do business with these people. I tried to buy a "brand new" Sony Playstation Vita from them and when I got home with the "Brand new and sealed" box it had already been opened and the device was riddled with scuffs, finger prints and even small scratches! What's worse than the product these LIARS sell is the customer service present within the store. I go back the next day to explain the problem of how my supposed "brand new" device had already been opened and tampered with when the manager... THE MANAGER of this so called legitimate business starts calling me a LIAR! He says "there is no way this has been opened before" and "this product is brand new, not opened and not refurbished!". He kept accusing me of lying and even threatened to kick me out of the store if I kept arguing with his lies. Listen, I work at a video game store... I KNOW WHEN SOMETHING IS FISHY WITH A PIECE OF GAMING EQUIPMENT. The only reason I even considered buying this Vita from this horrible store rather than my own is because it was so cheap! I now know why the price was so low... these things were probably the defective devices or crappy returned products from bigger stores that these BASTARDS bought at liquidation. The box was beat up to hell. It was sealed but had been opened and tampered with before. ALL of the cables and instruction manuals were ripped out of their original plastic wrapping. The device was riddled with finger prints, scuffs and small scratches. The memory card that was supposed to be in the box with the device in it's own separate plastic casing had been ripped out of it's casing and placed in the actual devices memory card slot. BRAND NEW PRODUCT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THIS WHEN YOU OPEN IT. This store carries out FALSE advertising and more importantly THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE/EMPLOYEE BEHAVIOUR I have ever come into contact with in my life. This place is incompetent and scammy. This place hires utter muppets. They sell defective stock, they have the worst return policy of any electronics store I'm aware of. And when you walk in, you're accosted by a mob of teenage employees who beg you for a chance to help out, but have no idea where or what anything is. So on top of everything else, the place is awkward. Let me tell you a story: I phoned Tech Source for an ordinary headphone jack for a DIY project. I was shuffled between three different people who didn't know what a headphone jack was. Eventually everyone assured me they had the part in stock. When I went down, they tried to sell me a headphone extender cable. It's as if I asked a grocery store for sugar, and they said yes because they were thinking of cookies. Another story: the head tech didn't know what a modular power supply was. Another story: they assured me the adapter I wanted didn't exist anywhere in the world, and then I found it on their own shelf. Another story: they tried to sell me a common cable for $30 that retails for $5 in a thousand different online stores. Another story: they sold me an off-brand hard drive caddy with all its mounting holes machined about a quarter-inch off from true, so it wouldn't have worked for any conceivable purpose, and they told me to get lost when I asked to return it. Another story: a lot of the dusty $5 parts in their back corner are the same brand as the same parts at the mall dollar store a block away. My electronics knowledge is relatively basic and I'm not trying to put myself on a pedestal, but this place bills itself as a repair shop and electronics specialist. We were shopping for a portable/wireless ipod/iphone speaker dock that charges when plugged in and then has a long battery life, as well as a 1TB external hard drive. Well, guess what? Bought 8GB of RAM from an employee. The package stated it was for Mac. I asked if it would be compatible for Windows. I was advised that it would be. My PC did not recognise the RAM. I returned it after 6 days to be refused a refund and offered store credit. I opted to exchange for a different 8GB stick of RAM. It was exchanged with the understanding that it was an 8GB stick. My PC recognised the stick but only as a 4GB. I suspect that the stick was originally part of an 8GB kit (2X4GB sticks), but at this stage I've opened and closed my PC so many times I'm tempted to stick with the 4GB. When shopping here, be sure to check on their return policies as they aren't good. Also make sure you're actually getting what they are supposed to be selling you. read more

I called TechSource to find out whether they had the Dell E6410 Latitude laptop advertised for $220 on their website and instead they tried to sell me a laptop for $320. When I went into the store, it turns out they did have the laptop I wanted, but it did not have the NVIDIA graphics card as advertised. I was told the laptop had an Intel graphics card, but the salesman lied because it turns out the video is integrated. He kept saying everything was "better" no matter what I objected to. Worse, when I got home, I checked the BIOS and discovered that the battery was totally dead and needed to be replaced!!! read more

I will never go back after going in to get the screen replaced on my iPad 2. They assured me that the device would be ready the following day (I told them I needed it for a meeting at 5pm). When I stopped by at 3:30pm to pick it up (they never called to tell me it was ready), they said it wouldn't be ready until 8pm. I went back the following day to pick it up. I was ready, but they had written my name wrong on repair slip - they wrote Maria not Marika as I had indicated. So I had to fight with them about getting my device back... despite knowing the unlock code on it, and being able to describe the lock screen image, etc... They then charged me $10 more than they quoted my boyfriend for the repair. I couldn't contest it because neither of us thought to have them write down the cost on the repair slip. I brought in my Mac Book to have the keyboard replaced due to some water damage. First, they said it would take a few days and it took 13 days. Second, the backlight on the keyboard no longer works and the technician told me (after the work was done and I paid for it) that the back-light never works after a 3rd party keyboard replacement - but he didn't think to tell me this in advance!! Third, after about a week, the computer stopped working completely and only now the technician tells me that he noticed other water damage when it was open but didn't tell me until now (?). Now I need to bring it to the Mac store where I should have gone in the first place. I have also bought a couple of phones from the sister store next door - TechCity and have had a bad experience on one of them. The Samsung Note 5 needed a battery replacement after about a year, which is fine since the phone had a good price. However, a month after the battery was replaced, the phone stopped working and the tech (same one as above) opened it up and found that the battery he had put in was now broken. But rather than honor the warranty, he said "there was no way of knowing why the battery was broken" (e.g. impact or faulty part) and made me pay $30 for the part. Any store that has any sense of customer service would have just replaced the battery but TechCity would not - definitely do not recommend this store for any repairs. read more

NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! The first time, I bought an ink cartridge which was,at least according to the box, designed for my printer. It was not even a similar size or shape. I took it back and they would not give my my money back--they would only give me a store credit. I couldn't use the credit right away, so a few months later, I decided to get a new keyboard for my iPad. It would have been great if it had had a right-hand shift key. Who designs a keyboard without a shift-key? I took that back and got another keyboard by a different manufacturer and it did not have a backspace key. Again, unusable. When I took this back (and each time I went there it take an hour of my time to get to the store and back home), I said I did not want a store credit. I was firm, but not angry or loud. I wanted my money back. The owner appeared to get angry with ME and said he would have given me my money back but he did not "like my attitude". I say he appeared to get angry, but I noticed that, in spite of what he was saying, he had a little smile on his face and it quickly became apparent that he was deliberately trying to pick a fight with me. It did not matter what I said, he had some kind of irrelevant come-back. He was not going to give me my money back, and I could see no point in getting another store credit because his merchandise is worthless. I noticed that the defective keyboard that I had returned the previous time was back on the shelves, so it finally dawned on me that he can sell and resell his worthless merchandise and keep our money. I smashed this last keyboard on the floor of the store, so he couldn't resell it and resolved to do everything I could to prevent anyone else from being treated this way. When I went online to write this review, I discovered this is standard operating procedure for this chain store. Both on this site and the Yellow Pages site, people recounted similar experiences: they cannot get refunds for shoddy merchandise; the owners advertise one product and sell another; they try to sell you a replacement you don't need; they don't meet their commitments when you give them your stuff to repair. In short, they make their money by carefully skirting the law. I contacted the Toronto Police Fraud Squad about this, but they say they don't handle cases like this. And the procedure at Consumer and Corporate Affairs is lengthy and only helps one person at a time. If you have been scammed by these people, please contact me via this site. Perhaps as a group, we can make some kind of complaint, or take it to CBC Marketplace or do something to get them to stop ripping us all off. There were two employees, I walked in and I asked about a Ram upgrade for my laptop computer. The older guy didn't find any that specifically was compatible with my laptop, but he did have slightly faster sticks that /might/ be compatible. So I asked to test the Ram in my laptop which I had with me, and the younger employee interrupted us to say "how am I supposed to sell this new if I let you test it?". His tone was a bit rude. I tried to explain that a computer store will almost always allow Ram to be tested, or at least returned if it's incompatible, because the nature of Ram requires that. He didn't listen, and repeated "how am I supposed to sell this as new then?" I spent a total of two minutes in the store, and I will never return again. I'm a computer programmer, I know what I'm talking about, and they've lost potentially significant future business. I warn people to not do business wit them! everything is cheap because they sell BAD QUALITY chinese stuff and they will never honour their 30 days warranty policy dont SHOP computers even REPAIR computer , it will not work after few days and you will never have a refund or warranty . I wouldn't consider going back to this store. They had advertised for a particular model of Sony Camcorder in their flyer, I called the store twice over 2 days to ask if they had stock. Both times it was confirmed that the product was in stock and would be held for me to pick up. I drove about an hour to get to the store, and they pulled out another camcorder of a similar model, but lower in grade and tried to pass it off as the same product. When I noticed that the model numbers were different, I was told that they had "made a mistake on the flyer", and what was listed on the flyer was not actually available, and that this was "all they had". They then told me they could offer me a "really good price" on the product, but was not worth it at all. Considering I had called twice to confirm the make and model of the product, if it was an honest mistake it would not have taken more than 2 minutes to actually read the model # on the box and realize it's not the same as what was advertised. I wonder how many people have bought the camcorder thinking it was a great deal but then realized they were ripped off. Honest mistake? I don't think so. read more

Conveniently their Brampton location doesn't have an add on Yelp, likely because of their appalling customer service. Brought my computer in there to have it fixed as my hard drive burned out and was told it would take less than a week to order the new one and have it ready for me. After waiting three weeks, I assumed it was done and drove up from Port Credit in Mississauga to Brampton to pick it up, but the work was not done. I was then told it would be fixed the following day. It took three trips up there to pick it as they failed to give back the power cord. The mouth breathers behind the counter had zero concept of customer service and satisfaction, and couldn't care less about the inconvenience their staff have placed on me. After two weeks of trying to get it working at home, as it operated at a quarter of the speed it used to operate at, I became frustrated and called the technician who worked on my device to express this. He essentially said that it was something I had done and that there would be a charge to fix it. After arguing with me he eventually said he would fix it the following day.
