Tecate Horse Rescue (THR) is a nonprofit equine rescue and sanctuary dedicated to giving horses a second chance while creating meaningful human connection. We rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome horses in need, providing compassionate care and responsible adoption placement throughout the Southwest.
Beyond rescue, THR offers equine-assisted therapy, educational programs, horseback riding, workshops, corporate retreats, guided all-inclusive horse camping experiences and long term parking and storage for cars, RVs, containers, boats and other vehicles.
Our immersive ranch programs are designed to support wellness, leadership development, personal growth, and community connection. From Women’s Wellness Weekends to team-building retreats and multi-day horse camp adventures, we create powerful experiences rooted in reflection, resilience, and renewal — guided by the quiet wisdom of horses.
We also provide secure gated parking and dry camping on our ranch property, with proceeds directly supporting the care and feeding of our rescue herd. Whether you’re visiting for an event, volunteering, adopting, attending a retreat, or reserving a camping space, every interaction helps sustain the mission.

History
Established in 2022.
Tecate Horse Rescue was founded by DJ Osborne to provide a safe landing place for horses in need while creating a space where healing happens for people, too. Located just minutes from the Tecate border crossing, our ranch began as a small rescue focused on rehabilitation and responsible rehoming. Over time, we witnessed the powerful connection between horses and humans, which naturally expanded our mission into equine-assisted therapy, education, workshops, and wellness retreats.
Today, we serve as both a sanctuary for horses and a gathering place for community. In addition to adoptions and programs, we offer volunteer opportunities, ranch experiences, and secure gated parking and dry camping as part of a sustainable funding model that supports the herd. Every visit helps rescue horses and change lives.
