Have rode with SD Horse trail riding few times now and love it! Christina and Krystal are fantastic! Really nice to find a place that lets you have option go as fast as your comfortable with. The ranch ride is gorgeous. I would suggest the hour and half-two hour ride for most scenery. They also do trailered rides to lake cuyamaca and Laguna which I am looking forward to for next spring. Coming from working in the veterinary field and being a frequent trail rider growing up I was a bit hesitant wether I still had it in me or not I was expecting a plain flat riding trail the trail Christina and AK rode with me on was more than I imagined, tucked into rocky mountain sides and ravines the views were spectacular the weather was beyond perfect! Christina got the horses running through certain areas, my muscle memory reconnected with my past and my riding skills were pushed to the limit, it was a blast all around! Best horse trail riding I've ever done and absolutely will do again ! I am staying near downtown San Diego from there it's an 40 minute drive to the ranch so totally doable. Driving through the valley is where the journey start it's so beautiful! The horses are looking amazing and the love they have for them is something I loved to see ! I am an expert rider from the Netherlands so I was looking for something what is hard to find.. a personal and challenging trail ride. And it was more than that. After a quick 1-hour drive from San Diego, we were greeted with a warm welcome from Cynthia! Crystal and John were our wranglers/tour guides and they made a fantastic team attending to our private two-person ride. They matched us up with the perfect horses and we were off on a two-hour trail ride through hills covered with low brush (California sage, chaparral, yucca, manzanita, yellow mustard + more!) and a few oak trees. Our route covered a surprising variety of terrain including rolling ups and downs, a stone staircase, a county road, a huge puddle to wade through and a bridge! The horses were sure-footed, responsive and well-cared for. Crystal and John's leadership and communication on the trail let us relax and have a great time!! What an amazing experience, we had an amazing time horseback riding. We come each year, we stay at our timeshare The Good Life, they referred me to Adventures on Horseback. I am so pleased they referred me to Debby she is amazing and so kind. We were scheduled for a 12:30pm ride but we were running late from traveling from Los Angeles. She was so accommodating to us and made us feel welcomed even though we were late. The riding time was great, the trail was nice and the time you get riding with your horse is very reasonable for the price of the ride. Best horse trail ride ever!! My boyfriend and I stayed at an airbnb located on the same property and we got to walk over to the horse stables for a Sunday morning ride. My bf wasn't feeling too keen on horse riding (he prefers to MTB) and Christina our guide offered for him to ride along with us on his bike so he did. Christina was really great throughout the entire experience. She was able to guide me on the horse while also guiding my bf on his bike. I am a novice level rider and had not ridden a horse in a while, so was a bit nervous but Christina provided instruction on basic maneuvering of the horse which made me feel more comfortable. We rode up and down trails, and even rode the trail equivalent of a 'roller coaster' and did some trotting and some cantering at various segments of the ride. This was my first time ever experiencing cantering and it was truly exhilarating. We will definitely be returning for another ride. I also got to brush my horse, Foxy, and feed her treats which was a real treat for me. I loved everything about this experience. In case you are wondering about social distancing measures.. We made sure to bring and wear our face masks and adhere to social distancing rules to keep everyone safe. They have disinfecting wipes on site and actually wipe down the saddle once its strapped in. Once on the horses, you're pretty much always 6 feet or more apart. Social distancing can be practiced while horse trail riding but needless to say if you are sick then obviously you should stay home. read more

This was a very authentic way to experience horseback riding in the San Diego area. I have been to ranches all over the world, where they insist on taking out groups of 15 strangers or more and keeping everyone in single file. This was different. Christina, our guide was a REAL cowgirl. She is a wild rider, in a good way! She keeps you safe, but also allows you to take some calculated risk cantering and trotting with the beautiful horses. The terrain was hilly and tucked away from high population areas. The horses were very well taken care of. You could tell she knows her horses and loves what she does. Most importantly , as a rider you actually get to connect with nature, and have some challenging, but fun experiences with your horse. It is not some over-regulated, circus ranch, but rather the real deal. I highly recommend it. read more

Wow! What a great place! My boyfriend and I took 4 of my family members here for my moms birthday. We spent the night in the cabin on the ranch which was very cute and homey. You can see the horses right outside your window which was so cool. Christina and Armando took such good care of us the whole time we were there. We went on a 3hour ride the first morning and they actually taught us quite a few things about how to ride. The ride was exciting and they made great guides as well as great company. After the ride we went in their beautiful pool and spent the afternoon swimming. We ended the night with a barbecue on this really neat old style wood BBQ and some s'mores by their bonfire pit. Probably my most amazing memory I have, that never imagined, was riding the horses around the ranch under the moonlight. It was incredible and totally Christina's idea! I would have never thought to ask! Everyone slept great in the cabin and the next mornings ride was fantastic as well...as was our second dip in the pool. Overall Christina and Armando were so accommodating and kind to us. They encouraged us to have as much or as little involvement in the horses as we wanted. Constantly asking us if we want to ride again, or feed the horses, go in the pool, etc. I could not have had a better time. I am so grateful I found this place and hope to send many others their way, be it for a few hours or over night. I know you will love it! read more

Splash of Passion is really the best place to do horse ridding. I live in France, and each time I come to California, I have to go spend a week with Christina and Armando. The first time, I was 16 years old and whatever I had a really bad level in english, the friendliness was perfect. Definitely one of the best horseback riding sessions I've had around the San Diego area. Our ride was in Pine Valley and the landscape allowed for an enjoyable ride through the rugged hills. Our two guides made sure we had a great time, pushing the limits of our riding skills, while still making us feel comfortable with our horses Lucy and Junior. The guides make sure to know your riding experience to match you with the horse most appropriate. They also spend some time before the trail ride going over the basics of maneuvering your horse. This is important as many of the places I've been have different riding styles. The best things about San Diego Horse Trail Riding is that they cater to your comfortability on a horse; and while most places do not allow even comfortable riders to trot let alone canter, these guides encourage it! I had such a great time that I didn't want to leave, so I spent some time afterwards just petting all their beautiful horses. My partner pretty much had to drag me off the property. I can't say enough about Splash of Passion. My two daughters spent the week with Christina and Armando, and they absolutely LOVED it! They learned how to work on a real ranch, something that is foreign to us city people. Christina and Armando are such wonderful people, this was the first time we've left our daughters with anyone other than family members, and they went the extra mile to make us feel at ease. I have thought about making a "Yelp" account for a long time, but never had motivation till I felt the need to make a review on Splash of Passion. I was searching for a place that had affordable lessons near by, and found them to be the lowest price, but don't allow that to make you think they have terrible lessons, because if you want to actually learn the correct way of riding and caring for a horse, this is the place to go. The reason for lower prices is simply because they make you do all the work. You learn about the basics before even riding, which no other trainer ever had me do. I never even saddled my own ride until I met Armando. My first lesson, I learned more then all of my previous lessons combined. This ranch is a place I find such peace, not only in the animals, but also the people. They work with you when it comes to time, money, and goals. I'm so happy to have found Splash of Passion, and I recommend them to anyone who wants an amazing time without having to empty your wallet. read more

My family just returned from a 2 day mini dude ranch experience and we had a phenomenal time. We stayed in the cute little bunk house. It's not exactly posh, but it's comfortable and clean and it beats camping! There is an authentic cowboy style grill by the pool which made for an awesome steak dinner experience; nothing like a nice merlot under the stars with music playing after a long day of horse care and riding. My kids enjoyed every aspect of the experience including caring for the baby chicks and feeding the ducks, and of course the riding was top notch. My 8 year old son kept saying, "I can't believe I galloped my first day!". The second day, my husband and the kids went with Christina and Armando for a nice trail ride while I went for a beautiful walk through the meadow into town for coffee. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. Both kids were tearing up while saying goodbye. We will definitely be back! read more
