These include classes that attract many new age fans about gardening, sustainability etc. The problem with this collective mentality is expectations of the seeker will always be thwarted by someone in the community who is trying to "protect" the group, thus sacrificing the individual, which unfortunately may only be a visitor. I experienced this with the weather change & a toothache resulting in an incredible headache. A member named Glenn who I had just met saw me crossing the road in much pain on my way to see the nurse. He misinterpreted my facial anguish & out of fear to protect the group complained to management that visitors should not be allowed. He was not comfortable with new people on the property. Lost? Not a place for wise seniors....only queers may apply.

And I wanted a community we could feel connected to. EPCP is all that. Parents work in the classroom as parent-teachers, so you have to be aware that not everyone will parent-teach the way you would. That can be challenging. The reward is seeing your child bloom among others, first-hand. The school has been in place for more than 50 years and the teacher for the two-year-olds has been teaching for more than 25. The older class (three- and four-year-olds) has had some fluctuation over the past year; our beloved teacher moved away and proved difficult to replace, but after some trial and error, a fresh and enthusiastic teacher seems to be fitting the bill. Though our family is moving on this year, I believe the community will thrive in the years to come. Tuition is low. The community is incredibly supportive. The school partners with local UO-based EC Cares to provide evaluations and assistance to kids who need a little extra attention. No school is perfect (hence four stars, rather than five) but EPCP is pretty awesome. Experience will vary based on your participation level, and that of the other families. We're going to miss EPCP for sure!

What I love most: 1) Multiple spaces that can be used within and outside in the courtyard, spreading the activations. We use it in September, and fingers crossed for this year, the weather has been perfect and we've had a live band outside. 2) Isaiah Truong is fantastic to work with. He is very responsive and will dig for answers if there are other university cross-overs. 3) Location is in town, parking in garage is convenient. 4) Ability to work with outside catering. What I don't love: Because it is a working building on-campus, other events sometimes complicate convenience factors, ie, concert at Matt Knight, sports schedule or student events can affect parking or spaces within the Alumni Center. It is important to realize this and walk in with eyes wide open and keep the communication lines open. On the bright side, Isaiah is very helpful walking through some of these hiccups.
