One or the other of my children has attended the Eugene Waldorf School for just over nine years…read morenow. My children have always been treated as whole people, humans with hopes and dreams and ideas at EWS. The Eugene Waldorf School is chock full of visual arts, music, handwork and woodwork, fantastic writing instruction, Spanish language learning, theater productions each class year, plenty of outdoor play, and science, math, and social studies blocks that meet children where they are. For instance, literature is taught through fairy tales in first grade and world literature in eighth grade. As seventh and eighth graders independently explore more of the world around them, their curriculum mirrors that discovery as students study the Renaissance and voyages of discovery. At the Eugene Waldorf School, regular festivals and celebrations such as the Winter Light Fair and May Fair mark the seasons, and older students become invested in and volunteer to help with events to help create the same magical festivals that they remember from their younger years. My kids love the Eugene Waldorf School, and my older child, now a junior in public high school, has carried that love of learning gained at EWS into a successful high school experience.

We are truly blessed to have Next Step in Eugene, both the donation and the retail ends of their…read moreoperations. The Yelp listing gives the address for the donation end; the retail end is a few blocks away at 980 McKinley St. More info is at http://nextsteprecycling.org/locations-html My dad's old Mac died, and he needed a replacement more affordable than the $1,200+ quoted at The Mac Store. Next Step's retail store set him up with a 2006 iMac on OS 10.7.5. The base price was $299.99, but, any time you make a donation at the donation end of Next Step, you get a 20% off coupon for the retail store, so we made a donation in advance of our purchase and got the computer for $239.99 with the coupon. Had my dad been willing to switch to a PC, he could have got something even cheaper -- and Next Step's PCs are all on Windows 7. Next Step also referred us to Techmedic in the Big Y Shopping Center for transfer of data from the old Mac to the new-to-him one, and that cost only $80, less than the $99 quoted at The Mac Store. As for the donation end: If you have privacy concerns about donating old computers, techs at the donation center will remove the hard drives for you if you ask. For most computers this is a simple process, but I once brought in an old Mac laptop on a Saturday afternoon and was told to bring it back on a weekday so a more experienced tech could extract the hard drive -- I did so, and then I didn't have it sitting in my attic any longer.

The course itself was 14 hours over two days including breaks every hour including one hour for lunch for each day. During the course you'll receive everything you need to enter the world of private security including a hundred page manual which the instructor will go over with you and answer any questions you have. The course is finished with a fifty question test that is open note, but if you pay attention in class and write down what you need, consulting notes on the test will only slow you down. Seriously, I'm a terrible test taker but I scored around 95%. The hardest part is the second day where you'll start to feel training fatigue but it's nothing a little coffee and a vape/cigarette can't fix. At the very end of the course you'll get all the paper work you need for submission to obtain your license. The owner, Donovan Beard, will also help answer any questions you have. Mr. Beard sat in for most of our training, though I think this was mostly for Mr. Nichols' benefit since he is a newer instructor. Surprising since it doesn't show. Anyway, 5/5.
