    Drinks!

Teaspoon is a reliably good boba chain wherever you go. This particular location is as good as the rest of them--not any better or worse. My family and I ordered our drinks, and I got the Lychee on Lychee, half sweetness. It was still REALLY sweet (like 100% sweet-tasting), and the tea flavor wasn't as strong as I'd like. Also, for some reason, it was super difficult to pierce the drink tops with the paper straws they use. Staff were helpful when my parents had a difficult time ordering with gift card. Not much to say about the interior! There's a couple tables, but it's a small space overall. Overall, Teaspoon is just okay.

We took a detour in Berkeley on our way back home to Sacramento and we needed a place to kill time and we came across this cute little tea place- we ordered Golden Assam for my husband, House milk tea for me & Hoji cookies & cream for my son and we all loved it. Service was fast and so far its clean. Thanks and more power!

First time at this Berkeley location and this Teaspoon definitely lives up to its reputation of always making sure their customers leave their shop happy and satisfied. Esther made what could have turned into a pretty unpleasant experience to a totally positive one. Thank you Esther for taking care of us tonight! For some reasons, the rewards on my app was not scanning/registering on their side of the system. Esther was trying her best to scan my rewards barcode and use the discounts shown in my profile but the system kept selecting a different one for us. She was patient in working through the issue despite her being the only worker in the store at that moment with multiple drink orders coming in. I believe her partner was on break and instead of just ignoring my issue, she went and called her manager, Tania to help as well. They were trying to troubleshoot together over the phone which I really appreciated. I told them it's ok, I didn't want to hold up their orders over my silly problem but they were both insistent in making sure I was taken care of. Thank you for taking the time in making me feel like a valued customer and not looking the other way when a problem arises. We opted for the Watermelon Series (Flamingo + Lychee Breeze) and both were very refreshing for this summer night. Not overly sweet with the perfect watermelon to tea ratio in the lychee one plus the passion fruit was a nice touch to the Flamingo drink. Great summer drinks especially if you're a fruity drink fan. Definitely would stop into this location again whenever we're in the Berkeley area. Thank you so much to Esther and Tania both for taking care of your customers!

Service was excellent. BOGO specials, which makes it excellent. Ambiance was on point. I will be returning for more boba!

Delicious tea in a great prime spot with so many different options. The workers are so kind and helpful. I loved the grasshopper which has lychee, cucumber and jasmine tea. Their creations are all super good. I definitely recommend less sugar! I also enjoyed the oolong milk tea and the boba was squishy and chewy just how I like it!

Clean and small setup. Picked up a few drinks close to closing so that may be the why... but the drinks were watered down. Other than that, no other complaints here. Will have to see for next time!

I've always been a fan of the Teaspoon brand. So when I saw that there was a Teaspoon nearby while in Berkeley, I knew I had to stop by for a drink. The shop is pretty small, with very little seating available. It is however clean and well lit, and the baristas were all very friendly as well. They strangely enough had a "Soft Opening" sign above their entrance, so we asked them if they were having any soft opening specials. It turns out they did their soft opening last NOVEMBER (1 year ago)! Not sure why the sign is still up after all this time. Ordered a Guava Sunset, and boba topping was an additional $1 add-on. The boba itself was a bit firm, so was rather disappointed with the drink. Additionally, the cup they use at this location appears to be thinner and smaller than the typical cup I get from other Teaspoon locations.

Teaspoon is a reliable boba chain known for its quality tea, and the Berkeley location lives up to that reputation. It looks like they brew their teas in house. I saw what looked like an espresso machine setup with different teas and flavors ready to be freshly brewed. They offer a wide variety of flavors and toppings, and you can fully customize your drink. If you're unsure, they also have suggested combinations that pair specific flavors with the best toppings. It's $6.25 to $7.25 each, which is pretty standard. I've been going to Teaspoon for a while, and this location is just as solid as the others. My favorites include their taro lover which contains real taro jam, classic Thai milk tea with the grass jelly and boba, and their house milk tea. The seating area is very small, just a few tables, so it's more of a grab and go spot than a place to hang out with a large group. The ambiance is clean and minimal, but nothing fancy. Parking can be tricky with mostly street parking, but the shop is close to the UC Berkeley campus, which makes it super convenient for students and faculty. Overall, a great spot for consistently good boba and well brewed tea. Service was fast and worker was friendly. Even gave me a free drink that someone didn't pick up! :)

Staff was amazing. Cream Jasmine 50 percent sweet with peach popping boba was really good. Tons of topping options. They didn't have almond pudding so I will have to come back and hope I can try it another time.

Berkeley is not shy of boba shops. My friend and I were seeking boba after our meal and Teaspoon was nearby and open later than other spots. This tea shop is on the smaller end with only two tables. Most customers take their drinks to go. Ordering is a breeze which you do at the kiosk and wait for your name to be called. Our drinks took less than five minutes to be made by the sweet staff which was appreciated! There's a variety of milk and fruit teas, some are caffeinated and others aren't. Adjustments for ice and sweetness can be made plus fairly alternatives are available. Since it was late at night, the non-caffeinated Silky Mango, Light Ice, and Oat Milk called to me. I found the Silky Mango to be extremely sweet, and creamy, with nicely cooked boba. My friend had the Dirty Ube with Oat Milk. The drinks are a little pricey but a good size! Teaspoon is a small yet reasonable spot for drinks in Downtown Berkeley. They have locations all over the nation, with this one tucked away off University Ave. It's easily accessible by foot with street parking around.

Matcha Royale - Classic with oat milk

Great late night boba spot! They were giving out free samples of the "ladybug" drink which was sweet and refreshing. The cashier was very friendly, told me about the ladybug drink, and how I could customize it for the future based on my preferences. I'm vegan so I ordered the matcha royale with oat milk (they use the califia brand) at 50% sweetness, it was still a bit sweeter than I normally like but still super good and creamy! I would definitely go back!

Came here on a normal weekday and wasn't busy at all. I normally like teaspoon and had it at many different locations however this teaspoon was disappointing. I ordered the Black Sugar Assam and it was super watered down and the boba wasn't chewy. The cup wasn't cleaned either, so there was some spill all over the cup. There weren't any milk alternatives either. They had a self order kiosk and is more of a grab and go boba spot because there aren't much seats at all. However, I did like how they had samples of lemon bar! Unfortunately overall was disappointed to try Teaspoon in Berkeley.

Idk if it was our timing or order, but the matcha was slightly watery and did not have a strong flavor. Additionally, my ube tasted like straight coconut than ube to the point where my husband was like yo they dyed some coconut foam purple LOL I highly doubt that was the case, but point made. The interior is fine, small but tables and wifi if you want to get some work done or study. I'm not sure I'd give this spot a chance again, but eh there are a lot of competitors to give a try instead.

I've visited elaichi twice since in the area already and I plan on going back again. My first visit was on a Monday morning with a friend. I ordered the Banana Chai Einspanner (chai with banana sea salt cold foam) with oat milk and the Aloo Tiki Paratha Roll (potato fritter with cilantro chutney, red onion and garlic yogurt). My friend ordered a hot latte and the Paratha Quiche (tomato, red onion, Serrano and cilantro). We also shared a piece of Pistachio Cake. The Banana Chai Einspanner is simply the best drink I have ever had in my entire life. I am truly not kidding. It is so decadent, smooth, spicy, fresh. This is the best drink to grace this plant. My friend was really happy with her latte as well. I wouldn't say it strikes the "classic chai" chord, as this is incredibly sweet, so if you're looking for that, I would select a more basic option on the menu. It's also worth noting, the Banana Chai is a seasonal option for the summer. As for the food, everything was delicious. The Pistachio Cake was moist and had such great flavor. The crusts on both of our savory dishes were so flaky! I visited again on a Tuesday morning (yes the next day) and ordered the Banana Chai Einspanner once again and the quiche. Both were as delicious as the first time around. And the product isn't it all. The staff at elaichi are incredibly friendly. Even when the shop was busy on the Monday morning, we were taken care of with respect and care. I can tell the staff also have good relationships with those in the community. I think I would've liked just a little more depth and richness, but it's still a drink I'd happily order again. I also tried the genmaicha latte, which was less sweet than the Uji matcha. I really liked how the toasted, nutty flavor of the genmaicha balanced the sweetness, though I thought it slightly overpowered the matcha. Hello, my fellow café junkies…read more I LOVE little cafés. I will happily spend my hard-earned money on an overpriced chai latte while sitting somewhere cute pretending I have my life together. So when I say I'm definitely not coming back here, just know it pains my café-loving heart. First, let me give credit where credit is due: the atmosphere is GREAT. Super cute. Super cool. Great little hidden spot. The service, however? SucKs--with a capital K. ‍ Here's how my first--and probably last--visit went: 1. We ordered THREE chai lattes: two hot chai lattes and one iced chai latte with oat milk. Pretty straightforward. Nobody was ordering a 14-step potion from Hogwarts. 2. We received only two drinks. So, channeling my inner Karen from Boyle Heights, I politely went back and said, "Excuse me, we ordered THREE chai lattes." 3. They told me they hadn't charged me for the third drink. Okay! No problem. I work my ass off. I don't mind spending money. Charge me, hermana. Let's get this chai flowing. 4. I took a sip of my supposedly hot chai latte and immediately my taste buds sounded the emergency alarm: NOPE. THAT'S COFFEE. 5. I looked at my husband suspiciously and asked, "Is yours chai or coffee?" He took his first sip and said, "This is coffee." At this point, the chai lattes had apparently entered the Witness Protection Program because nobody could find them. 6. I went back. To their credit, they were perfectly willing to remake the drinks. Thank you! And when we finally received the two hot chai lattes, they were actually GOOD. Crisis temporarily averted. 7. THEN I looked over at my friend holding the supposedly iced chai latte with oat milk and thought, Wait a minute... "Taste yours." He takes a sip. "This is coffee." GIRL. THREE chai lattes ordered. THREE chai lattes misunderstood. At that point, I wasn't ordering beverages anymore. I was participating in a listening-comprehension assessment. ‍ The person taking our order seemed rushed, distracted, and all over the place. And listen--mistakes happen. I teach for a living. I have patience. But when every single drink in one order is wrong, we've moved beyond "oops" and entered performance art. No manchen--venimos a gastar, no a pendejear. ‍ So here's my recommendation: If you're particular about actually receiving the beverage you ordered, you may want to try another café. Or, if this place has an app, USE THE APP. Let technology translate "chai latte" into "chai latte" because apparently the spoken version is giving everybody trouble. Better yet, buy your drinks somewhere else and bring them here. Then you can enjoy the cute atmosphere without participating in Chai Latte Roulette: Will It Be Chai? Will It Be Coffee? Nobody Knows! The place is called Hidden Café, and after today's experience... I can see why it's hidden. Cute environment? Absolutely. Would I trust them with another three-chai-latte mission? Esta mamona la cosa. Hard pass. ‍ Come for the atmosphere. Bring your own drink. And may the odds of receiving what you ordered be ever in your favor. Signed, A recovering Chicana Karen from Boyle Heights who just wanted her damn chai.

That, however, shouldn't detract from the personalized experience you'd likely receive with how small the coffee bar is. If you're expecting something more permanent this coffee shop is more like a temporary coffee cart that has roots in the back corner of this gift shop On the whole this place despite the hidden location has folks very much eager to bring specialty coffee to anybody interested. They have a large selection of relatively high end coffee in the likes of Geisha from Panama and Ethiopian coffees. Additionally, they're the only place I've ever seen across the US that is showcasing any coffee grown in China which is nice to see as that allows more exploration into how the terroir affects the taste of coffee For my first time here I came with a small group of coffee enthusiasts so we tried a selection of their Alo Main Station (notes of Sweet Orange, Bergamont, and Peach Oolong Tea), Finca Santa Maria (notes of Cherry, Mango, and Berry Jam), and Lerida Loma Washed (notes of White Floral, Mandarin Orange, and Longan) Each cup was uniquely different from each other but arguably the most enjoyed was their cheapest option in the Alo Main Station at $9. Each cup seemed completely different and may seem pretentious to say but they did have sweeter notes that you'd be very unlikely to taste from your well known coffee chains. This place definitely caters to the coffee enthusiasts in a way where even my group wasn't quite near the level of but it had a great atmosphere, nice outdoor seating, and staff who were very passionate about their craft If anything, I would probably come back as they do elevate coffee for those who are unaware of coffee coming from China but that coffee doesn't need to taste bitter, burnt, or chocolatey. The cups here were more like tasting a mellowed fruit juice but it just happens to be coffee. That said, unless you are eager to try specialty coffee this place may seem overpriced as their pour overs are between $9 - $25 which heavily differs from most other coffee shops. Having Masterpiece provide a glimpse of the specialty coffee scene within the Bay Area is still a welcome blessing as it has a similar vibe to specialty coffee shops you'd experience in Asia

Since my husband was doing an iced Shiro, I went with a hot version of the Kuro. We both got whole milk rather than oat milk. While I loved both options the Kuro was definitely my favorite and did not disappoint. There's some seating options outside to enjoy your coffee and tons of vintage items to browse through inside while you wait for your coffee.
