I love Tease. I have seen Caitie and Emily and was thrilled with my hair both times. I like that the salon is a la carte when it comes to services, and you can schedule different services with different stylists based on who is available at the time. When I first came I was given a free gift of trial sized shampoo and conditioner, a hair mask, and coupons for my second and third service. I felt very welcomed and told two friends about the salon. Both saw Sarah and their hair looked amazing. I'm convinced this salon has some incredibly talented colorists and stylist, and everyone has been so sweet and professional. Absolutely ridiculous experience here. I came in as a first time client because it's in the town I recently moved to. I wanted a hair wash and blow out the day before I am induced with my first baby. The sylist acted like I was inconveniently there, wash my hair so hard I was wincing, didn't adjust the bowl at all, and washed my hair with ice cold water. When she finally slowed down and realized she was hurting me, instead of apologizing and slowing down, she got pissed and someone else will do it. I said no, it's just a little hard. After that terrible experience, we went to blow dry. Same thing. Hard brushing, and rushing to get me out. I'm walking out 20 hours before the biggest day of my life in tears, and smelling like moth balls from their disgusting shampoo. read more

I would strongly recommend avoiding haircuts and extension services at Tease. I've been going to Tease since March 2024 for coloring, extensions and haircuts and I've seen three different stylists. In more instances than not, I have needed to return for a follow up appointment for them to redo something that went poorly in the initial appointment. It's a great location and pretty salon - however, the quality of work and customer service leaves much to be desired. The prices are comparable to a high end salon in Boston, but the quality is of stylists who are still in school. Avoid! read more

DO NOT GET HIGHLIGHTS HERE!! They may be good doing simple haircuts but please beware, if you have any concerns about your hair, they will treat you rudely and extremely unprofessionally. They respond to reviews like this with lies hoping customers will be fooled in to going there. They insisted that what I got was close to the picture I showed (see below). Found this salon on a whim through Yelp/Google and was in semi-desperate need of a hair cut. I've never had unfortunate experiences at other salons, but I wanted really find a place where I might be able to consistently come back to for my bi-annual hair appointments. I think I've found that with Tease. My hairstylist, Abby C (highly recommend), was so nice and upon showing her my reference photo for the cut/style I was going for she was able to provide suggestions on how she would cut it to really get what I was going after while also taking into account the concerns I had too. She would check in with me throughout the process as well. I have very fine, Asian hair and Abby was also able to give me great style tips as well as cut my hair in a way that would look great just naturally or with some curls in. Check in/out process was super seamless and while my interactions with the rest of the staff was minimal, it seemed like everyone was super professional and kind. TL;DR Hostile, rude, and confrontational owner who refuses to make things right after balayage turned out badly I booked a hair cut and partial balayage with Sarah on 1/4 in the evening. I had an overgrown balayage that I had asked to be updated. The appointment was made awkward by the fact that a client of the owner showed up for service but the owner was at a family event. This means Sarah was working on my hair AND the owner's client's hair simultaneously. The resulting balayage did not turn out well. There are several distinct blonde stripes originating at the top of my head where the "balayage" was updated. There is no blending whatsoever and is not flattering in the least. The back profile, as seen in the pic, is noticeably stripey, piecey and with no blending to the top. I told Sarah the next day I'd like to have it fixed and I didn't hear back for 3 days. I scheduled an appointment with my old stylist as a result to get it fixed and asked Sarah for a portion of the balayage refunded. After 8 days since my service I received a phone call from the owner, Matt, who was already defensive and hostile with my request for a partial refund. He said I could get my hair fixed with Sarah or another stylist. I told Matt, while that could've worked previously I didn't hear from Sarah for several days, I received several unfavorable comments about the state of my hair, I have a time sensitive trip coming up, and truthfully I don't know any of the stylists except Sarah who didn't do a good job so at this time I'm no longer willing to get this balayage fixed at their salon. I put my trust in Sarah for the balayage and it didn't go well, now I'm expected to trust his other stylists to fix it? I had said to Matt at one point, "Matt, this phone call is getting unnecessarily tense" as he was raising his voice, cutting me off, and overall acting unprofessional. There was no room to discuss the situation, but only his increasing belligerence in telling me I can either get it fixed with them or too bad. His bottom line was that they will not be giving any sort of a refund, it's my fault I didn't try to get in better touch with the salon sooner, it's my fault I prefer to get it fixed elsewhere, etc. and then hung up on me. There is no accountability from this salon whatsoever. I understand it's a common salon policy to have the stylist fix the hair, and in my situation where it took too long for someone to get back in touch, stylist didn't do a great job, and awful customer service from the salon owner, it's understandable that I would not want to come back for a fix. read more

Tease is one of the best salons I have every been to. The stylists are so friendly and nice. I brought my mother with dementia to get her hair cut today and they were so kind and patient. Before our appointment there was an altercation between a woman late to her appointment and our stylist. The other customer was rude, belittling, and ridiculous and our stylist was so calm and nice trying to calm her. This customer insisted on writing a letter to the owner to let her know how displeased she was, but I want to use this platform to say that she was the one in the wrong and demanding ridiculous things. I've been growing my hair out for over a year and was sure of 2 things - I needed to cut it, but still wanted it to say something about me. I knew I wanted to go to a salon versus a barbershop; I pass Tease regularly and it has great curb appeal so I looked it up and all the reviews backed that up. Making an appointment was easy - you can book right through the website and choose the stylist you want - knowing nothing about anyone, I booked with Caitie because I liked her hair. I showed up for my 8:30am appointment and the place was already buzzing, lively, and energetic which I loved. Their COVID guidelines are safe and practical and made me feel safe without impacting my haircut or experience. I get super self conscious about showing pictures to reference what I want so I went out on a limb and just described it in words. Caitie confirmed and said she'd leave things a little bit longer just in case to start - she gave me affirmations throughout and I was amazed with her transformation. I'm glad I didn't use a picture to start with because by the end I felt like the haircut was exactly what I wanted in a way that suited me perfectly. Got a nightmare haircut at a nearby salon (a reverse bob that was so uneven that I looked like one person from one side and another when I turned the other way) and had to get it fixed quickly before an interview the next day. I called and the receptionist was able to get me in the morning of. I met with Taylor who listened to what my concerns were and helped get my hair all evened out. It was like night and day compared to what I came in with and what I walked out with. And that very same day I got the job I interviewed for. She really saved the day and my confidence. This is one of the best salons I have been to in a very long time. All of the staff is very friendly and it doesn't take months to get an appointment. The salon is always super clean and inviting. They have different levels of stylists you can chose to go to. I go to Melissa and she always knows exactly what I want. Parking is Street parking or one of the business parking lots in the back... it can be tough to get a space close by so make sure to leave time for parking. read more

I had an interview the next day and got a horrible haircut the day before. I was booked with Taylor at first, but it was always hard to book appointments with her. So I switched to Julie and I'm so glad I did. I have thin hair and I like a short, stylish cut. She gets it. She listens and gets it spot on. And I always walk out of there looking like a million dollars. I get compliments on my hair style all the time. I work in retail and it feels good to know I look my best. Julie is a nice woman too. Got a haircut and style for the first time by Caitie! Let me preface this by saying that I live in Melrose and drove an hour to get to the salon due to my friend insisting that Caitie was the best... and it was well worth it! Caitie was wonderful in that I explained to her what I wanted, showed her a picture, and she not only gave me her professional opinion- she also carefully explained why she wanted to give me shorter layers to accentuate my facial features and better compliment my overall face shape! The salon is very beautiful, the staff was incredibly friendly and also generous! Because it was my first time and I had been referred- both my friend and I got a discount! I started going to Tease years ago and found an amazing hair dresser, then had to move away and never found anyone that was as good that was local. I was traveling really far to go to someone I trust. Years later I moved back to the area and went back to Tease. My previous hair dresser was no longer there, so I had an appointment with Ruth. My hair is fine, thin, and super curly - so not a walk in the park for hair stylists... but Abby was great about talking me through options I could try on my hair. Melinda is a miracle worker!!! I was referred to Tease by a friend after I had a not so great highlighting experience elsewhere. From the minute I booked my appointment to the minute I left everyone was incredibly friendly. Before getting started Melinda asked me questions about my hair and what I wanted going forward as well as throughout the process. She spent more time than my appointment was booked for (luckily I was her last appt.) making sure my hair was fixed! I can't rate Abby high enough! After calling around town and being shut down by 3 other barbers/hair salons, I finally called Tease and found out they accept children under 5 for haircuts. 5 seems to be the cutoff for most other places and I was desperately trying to find someone who could cut my 15 month old's hair. Abby was incredibly patient and professional. I can sympathize with the salons that don't allow children because it's definitely a challenge to deal with small children and my son was no exception. Abby handled it like a dream though. We'd already had one bad experience at a salon that was supposed to be geared towards children so I was nervous about the results at Tease. I am so pleased with the results and I'm eternally grateful for Abby's patience and grace while dealing with a rambunctious toddler. Highly recommend Tease and Abby for children's cuts! read more
