(4/5) I want to share my full experience at Starz Salon because while things ended on a great note, the beginning was incredibly stressful and disappointing. My original stylist, Emma, had to cancel last minute due to illness, which I completely understood. Since I was heading out of town for vacation and needed my hair done beforehand, the salon rescheduled me for that Saturday with another stylist (whom I won't name out of courtesy). Unfortunately, the appointment went terribly. I was quoted a price and given a timeframe of 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. for a tone, glaze, and haircut. I ended up being there from 11 a.m. until after 3 p.m. nearly four hours and I never even received the haircut. The total price I paid was much more than originally quoted (even without the haircut) The color process was poorly executed: my hair came out overly ashy, spotty, and completely off from what I requested. The stylist had to re-glaze it, but I was still charged for that re-glaze even though it was correcting her own mistake. I also specifically said I didn't want a full blow-dry just enough to make sure my hair looked okay for my trip but I was still charged for a full 30-minute blow dry I never wanted. Worse, during the service, I told the stylist that my scalp was hurting, and she dismissed it, saying it was probably just "stress." When I got home, my husband noticed visible burn marks on my scalp. That was alarming and honestly made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Then, she told me she wanted to dry my hair before cutting it, which is not standard and made me extremely uncomfortable. At that point, I was so uneasy with the entire experience that I lied and said I had another appointment just to get out of the chair. I left without a haircut and very upset. To the salon's credit, the owner personally reached out to me afterward, apologized, and promised to make it right. Although it couldn't be fixed immediately due to the holiday weekend and my vacation, they followed through... When I returned, Emma (my original stylist) was finally able to see me, and she did an incredible job. She corrected the color beautifully, gave me a deep shampoo treatment, and finally gave me the haircut I'd originally booked. She's professional, kind, and clearly knows what she's doing. I'm not writing this to bash Starz Salon. Mistakes happen but clients should never leave with burns, poor color, or feeling dismissed. That said, it's not about how you start, but how you finish and the salon made sure I was taken care of in the end. Thank you, Emma and the team, for turning it around. read more

I have been to Starz twice and had Yasmin cut my hair both times, and I won't go to anyone ever again! She is so personable and kind, and not to mention an excellent hairstylist. She has done my hair exactly how I wanted it both times, and I truly trust her with my hair which is not common for me. If you're looking for a new salon, I highly recommend Starz! read more

I have Jess cut my hair. Jess also styles my wife's hair as well as my adult son's hair. She does a fabulous job. We all look great after she does her magic and she is incredibly sweet and thoughtful. The Salon is in a great location, is very chic and uses all the necessary Covid safety precautions. I've been to Starz twice recently after decades at another salon. I was very impressed. The salon was immaculate and good-sized but not crazy busy. Everyone was friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Shannon has done a great job on my hair - consulting at every step and giving me exactly the look I want. We scheduled for a 12pm cut/blow dry, but were not greeted by the stylist until 12:10. She then told us that she did not have enough time to do "all of [my daughter's] hair. She claimed that the way we had scheduled online did not allow for enough time to get it done. We were just looking for a wash, blow dry, and trim. She did not come out to tell us about this time crunch until after she had finished with her previous client - which cut into our time significantly. We sat for 10 minutes before anyone even approached us, meanwhile people with lighter skin than ours were told to come right in and sit down in their chairs to start getting washed. The stylist was rude and seemingly blaming the appointment scheduling on me. The receptionist seemed to understand that if there was any issue with scheduling it had everything to do with their online scheduling system, and not me. The stylists reference and gesture towards my daughter's hair was offensive, as was her general attitude and treatment of us. I do not recommend any person with African American hair try this salon. Or do, but know that there are stylists here who may not have time to deal with all of your hair. read more

Disclaimer: My profile pic is deliberately goofy looking. I looked like that for 5 minutes before I finished shaving - it should not disqualify me from reviewing a salon. Ok, I prefer to go to barber shops, but my hair is kinda crazy so it never looks quite right after a barber. My wife likes me to keep my hair sort of long and it turns out I need a 'stylist' instead of a barber to keep it from looking chopped up. After some resistance on my part I finally agreed to go to Carissa (sp?) who had done a good job on my wife's hair. The place is very nice, even though I'm never comfortable in a salon - it's kind of like holding my wife's purse, there's no reason to it, just a general unease. Everyone is very nice there and I'm pleased with the result. For any guy who isn't quite satisfied with a barber's cut - or more importantly, if your wife/girlfriend isn't happy with your hair - I suggest Starz. There's no valid reason you should not hold on to a woman's purse for her, and there's no good reason not to get a really good cut at a salon. read more

I've been seeing Tia for a few years now and I can't say enough good stuff about her! She does an amazing job consulting with me on what works, and what doesn't. While that may not be the most important part of a visit to a salon, to me - it is. I've had so many stylists not listen to me when I ask for them to just trim the edges - they go in an hack away. No no no! Tia is not like that - she'll chat with you about what works, and what you may like and figure out a style that works for you. I've sent friends to her and I will continue to do so. I really love this place. Specifically, I go to Katie, who was recommended to me by an old coworker. She's incredibly nice and does a great job on my hair. Recently, Katie cut about 14 inches off my hair, and the cut looks great! I will definitely be going back. I had that cut and a blowdry and it was $35. What I also like about this salon is that it's relatively cheap for the area, especially when you're around places like Inividia. Cuts are somewhere in the $30-50 range, and one process dye jobs are something like $50. I think low lights/high lights with a one process color will run you around $125, depending the length of your hair, but I could be wrong. The place seems to always be super busy, so they must be doing something right. A lot of times when you go a junior stylist will usually be the one to wash your hair and then switch over to your normal stylist. Some people might not like this, but for me, it's perfectly fine. read more

So yesterday I had my appointment to dye my hair red. My experience with Starz' customer service was superb the day before and I was so looking forward to working with my stylist new Jessie (hope I spelled her name right) . She was FANTASTIC! I was going from a dark brown to a vibrant red and it was A LOT of work. We removed the color it had before, dyed it red and were unsatisfied with the results. But that didn't stop her, she came back with a cherry red dye that left my hair looking amazing! Its bright, and vibrant and the best shade red ever. I would even go brighter next time, and I won't go to anyone other than Jessie. She simply was the best! I would recommend this salon to anyone. It was busy, customers were happy, everyone knew everyone and it was a warm atmosphere. Well done Starz Salon, you have a new client for sure! read more

Simply awesome! I've been going there for years and never feel the need to venture away... Always fresh ideas and the latest in color and style. Fresh coffee, tea, cocoa or even wine is often served while you wait! Save money by saying hello to Starz and good bye to the overpriced salons in town! Great folks!!! read more

I got my hair done here for prom a couple years ago and I brought in a picture of what I wanted my updo to look like. For some reason when I have an older women doing my hair i am sort of biased as to how well they will do. She looked to be about 50-60. When she got to the bun part she said, "I'm just gonna put my own flare to it". And when I got to see it it looked nothing like the picture. A lot plainer and not very elegant. So I paid 100$ for it and then tipped. The next year for prom I went to another place with the same picture and she aced it 100% and it cost 20$ less. Never went back to this place again. read more

I went to Judy for a blow dry and she did great! I was pleased when I left but it gotten even better as the day went on and it settled down. I had so much body and volume and she gave me everything I asked. Service was excellent and she was super accommodating and friendly. Love their products! The place is clean and warm. not great at all. had a quick cut/clean-up and the stylist flipped my hair out. i hate that look. the good part was, it was only $33 for a wash, cut, and blow-dry. the other crumby part was when i booked the appointment, i specifically said i'd like a wash, cut and blow-dry, and the receptionist asked if i usually have a single process. since i've had my hair dyed many times, i knew what this meant. NO, I DID NOT WANT A COLOR SERVICE, so i said i just wanted a haircut. she asked what time would be good, and i said anytime after 9am. she chose 10am, and i said, "it's just for a wash, cut, and blow-dry, right." she said yes, and that i was all set for 10am the next day. of course when i got to the salon for my appointment, the person who greeted me asked what i was having done, and i said - just a haircut. then my stylist came to introduce herself and said, that i was booked for a color. wow, i almost lost it. she kept things cool by saying, "well, it's better to have booked extra time than to have only booked for a haircut slot and wanted a color process." i'd really rather not return. read more

Fast friendly service. I've had several different stylists, and they were are nice and did a good job. After having my hair done in Boston for years I was amazed to see that my cut and blow dry was only $35! I'm not good about making appointments in advance, and they are usually able to get me in with a day or two notice. read more

Let me first off start by saying I am extremely high maintenance when it comes to my hair. I was in town visiting family and made a last minute appointment for a blow out Saturday morning (who really wants to blow dry their own hair anyway). I was placed with Katie and I could not be happier. She was pleasant, professional, and most important of all listened to me. I left the salon with gorgeous soft curls that I could have never achieved on my own all for $30. I will definitely be visiting Katie whenever I'm in town! read more

Just a quick update- I get my hair cut very rarely, but I went back to Katie for the first time today. I was SO impressed, because even though she's only met me once, she remembered me- my kids, that we are new to town, details about my life that I'd shared in casual conversation. I have been going to Vanessa for years now and I can't say enough good things about her. She really listens and does a great job with both cut and color. She is also a lovely person to deal with. The front desk is terrific; they are both friendly and helpful. The salon is nicely appointed and clean as a whistle. The shampoo girls do a terrific job as well. One of the nicest things about Starz in Sudbury is how nice the stylist are to their clients and to each other. Everyone gets along and the atmosphere is so convivial. I recently went to starz for just something basic, but what had been a basic idea turned into an extremely well thought out hair cut. I went in to see katie and it was like I'd known her for years. The conversation was pleasant, and without even really telling her she knew exactly what to do. Out if all the salons I've been to this is definitely in the top. Best cut I have had in a decade! And I used to go to a fancier "salon & spa" just down the street, all their services have been mediocre, Definitely switching to Starz! I have long naturally curly hair, and the stylist cut and styled it to perfection! I am still loving it weeks later! read more

I had really hoped to like Starz as the price range of services is reasonable and it is conveniently located. I got a haircut there which was alright but definitely not great. I believe it was with a junior stylist. Then I brought 1.5 year old daughter in for a trim. She literally just needed 1 inch cut off of her bob. Their children's prices are $20 and up and I specifically requested a junior stylist. I was very flexible on availability. When I arrived for the appointment (after rushing to get there on time), we had to wait for 20 minutes. (There were only 2 customers in the entire salon but we waited at the receptionist desk for a few minutes and then more than 15 minutes for the stylist.) The trim took all of 3 minutes (literally) and it was $25. I am disappointed that I did not get the $20 stylist that I requested and that I ended up paying $30 for a 3-minute trim. I will have to find another salon with more reasonable children's prices. read more
