It's light and spacious with a minimalist Zen vibe. I immediately recognized this was a true tea place, not just a boba shop. It's clearly for people who appreciate high quality tea. I went in only knowing I wanted a boba tea after seeing someone inside enjoying one. The person at the counter was friendly and patient. He asked me a few questions and suggested the hojicha boba, and my tea was ready even before I found a place to sit! It was fantastic! The hojicha flavor was subtle but bright. The boba was fresh, mild in flavor, and had the perfect chew with the right amount of softness. There's also a nicely curated assortment of teas, tea accessories, and books about tea to choose from. Tea on Piedmont is officially my newest addiction! I can't wait to try more of their teas!

For example today, I walked in and stood in front of the ordering area only to receive no acknowledgement from seemingly 3-4 staff members who didn't seem like they were actively helping anyone. The cafe wasn't empty but it wasn't that busy either to me. It just felt like the staff were having fun by themselves or maybe they were with their friends. Which is fine by me, but after they help customers. Oh, also I asked for one of drinks for dining in and my other drink hot. I received them in a to-go cup and iced. Still both flavorful, but just shows that the staff's attention may appear to be elsewhere.

We went mainly for drinks and tried a latte, tiramisu latte, and a Spanish latte. The tiramisu latte and Spanish latte were both really good and definitely my favorites. Smooth, flavorful, and not overly sweet. You can tell the coffee quality is solid. We also tried the matcha drinks in vanilla and strawberry. I liked the strawberry matcha more. It comes unsweetened, so I asked for it to be sweetened and it was great after that. The vanilla matcha was fine too, just not my top pick. They're also dropping a new Ramadan drink soon, a date latte, which sounds really good and I'll probably come back just to try that. Overall, great drinks and a nice place to hang out.

I loved the ambiance, it felt we was in another country. The place was packed I have no idea where everyone parked haha. Very hard to find parking. The Adeni Chai I had was wonderful and I would get again. The lemon pastries I had were good & I would possibly get again. Both cheese pastries & meat pocket I didnt care for so much. I undetstand they are an acquired taste but me being Middle Eastern we have our own versions and I think that's why I didn't like as much. I would definitely go back and try more sweet pastries. They had a large selection I couldn't try them all haha. I would love to try more tea and coffee options as well. Go and try out several different pastries and discover what you like. It's cheaper than buying an airplane ticket to try another countries culture and delights. They also have outside seating which is especially nice on a beautiful day. Pro tip: take an Uber if you can. Parking is hard to get.

Such a cute experience, British afternoon tea meets Malaysian comfort!…read more I came here recently with my partner for our anniversary and was completely delighted with the experience. Heads up, this place is street parking only so come prepared! I would also recommend making a reservation since it is a smaller space (it was busy when I came!) The menu is pretty straight forward and majority of folks including us ordered a set for $45 each person. It comes with two choices of sandwiches, a scone, an array of sweets, and tea of choice. What makes this place so great too is that they allow you to pick sandwiches that are traditional to English Breakfast or you can go out of your way to pick traditionally Asian flavors. Between my partner and I we ordered: Meat floss sandwich (my favorite but that is because I have an affinity for meat floss), beef jerky (love how it paired with the creamy mayo), kaya jam with butter (a delicious salty sweet blend), and chicken curry (comfort food at best). We both enjoyed the scone with clotted cream and jam, very typical for afternoon tea, and in the dessert tier we got chocolate rocks (fun!), macarons, ube chiffon cake, and a strawberry sago pudding. Heads up everyone in your party gets their own tea set so you can mix and match to share with folks. Btw, they do have square sugar cubes, a nice accent. Overall, I feel like you should try this place at least once! Everything was great including our service!

My son usually gets a Taro when we go out for boba at other places. But, he doesn't like the Fresh Ube here, so he gets the Strawberry Potion or Strawberry Shake. The bentos are pretty good. Parking is still not ideal since it is all metered and the Grand Lake area is usually busy. Inside, the space is bright, lively, and generally clean. I also appreciate that the menu includes photos, which makes choosing much easier. I ordered the jasmine green tea with sweet creme and really enjoyed it. The tea flavor is on the stronger side, but the creme balances it out nicely. I also ordered the spicy popcorn chicken, and it was fresh, well‑seasoned, and extra crispy just like I requested. No need for extra seasoning at all. Service was solid, and overall this visit was much better than my first. I would definitely stop by again if I am in the area and craving a snack.

They have an extensive menu of tea, I decided to get the black mango tea, which is indicated as high caffeine. They told me to keep it to less than 1 min steeping or else it gets oversteeped. They were prompt with coming out with my tea leaves and teapot, and gave me a towel to put your teapot on in case of spills It was bitter, but definitely has the fruity notes I was seeking. I was able to make several potfuls of tea which still had some flavor in them, so the leaves seemed to do well with re-steeping. They provided me with a kettle so I could continually reboil the water, so I felt it was decent value (since total it cost only slightly more than the average boba costs nowadays). I'm thinking I'd like to get the lychee or hojicha next time. The worker didn't mention to me if they offer milk, which I wish they did. But they do sell snacks. The bathroom is clean. They have free wifi but the day I was there, unfortunately they were having issues with the wifi. They have a 2 hour time limit on weekends, but no limit on weekdays. I appreciate that they have outdoor seating, for those who are airborne illness conscious, and also so you can enjoy nature and sunshine while having your tea. A lovely spot overall, right on San Pablo Ave so you can take the 72 bus lines to reach it.

Each table has its own kettle so we got to brew the tea ourselves. I know tea always comes with brewing instructions but I never really paid attention to those. However, this experience made me realize the importance of brewing tea as instructed to fully enjoy the flavors and notes each tea offers. Overall, my friend and I had a great experience. Price point wise, it's slightly cheaper than other tea shops (slightly!). I gave it 2 stars because: 1) you don't come across "healthy" "medicinal" as well as massive choices very often at boba shops and the drinks ordered didn't give me the runs and 2) the location. DRINKS: I ordered 2 of the "blended" tea drinks (aka with goji berries, longan, etc aka replenishing, tonic, etc). They tasted like nothing. Very dilute. The one with ginger...all you tasted was the ginger. The boba was disgusting... rock hard with ZERO sugar or honey coating and ZERO chew. The clear boba is actually crystal boba aka store bought aka the usual crunchy texture you get at any other boba shops that offers this topping. SERVICE: I think due to ordering unusual drinks aka drinks that are obviously not very frequently/regularly ordered, they took FOREVER. I was third in line. People ordering after me were already receiving their drinks. I was there at 1:14pm and finally left at 1:58pm (if this tells you anything). VIBEZ: Indoor seating provided. Very intimate and a tight squeeze. Located in the Oakland Chinatown near the vast plaza comprising of Bank of America, the Oakland library, etc. Can park at this plaza or street metered parking. Free street parking on Sundays. Would I come back? Heck no.
