This pizza joint in Lansing North Carolina has been out of business since hurricane Helene devastated the area about a year and a half ago and we have been more than patiently waiting for it to reopen. It finally did and as luck would have it we were in the area this weekend and we're delighted to be able to enjoy not one but two pizzas. This is easily the best pizza joint in all of Ashe county and you would have to travel a ways to find better Pizza. Add that to the heartwarming story of how they struggled since Helene and finally reopened and this is just a place that if you're anywhere near this area you must come and get a pizza. Now I will say they're still not at full operation and you should be prepared to wait but as luck would have it there are some amazing shops that we love in the area there's an amazing supermarket and you can go next door and enjoy some coffee or tea or you can head to Molly chompers and get some hard cider but it'll be worth the wait for your pizzas. We had the chicken dinner pizza and the barbecue chicken pizza and the flavor of both was just extraordinary the only thing I wish is that the crust were a little crispier but taste is way more important to me. If you're ever in the West Jefferson area or even the Boone area it will be well worth your time to travel to this awesome little city and spend some local dollars and help out the economy this is one of those mountain communities that just doesn't know how to say give up.

At first we were reluctant, thinking how could an Italian restaurant be any good in a small town in Virginia. After all, we are of Italian-American descent -- so we know genuine Italian food and being the cook in our home -- I know how to cook Italian. My meatballs are renowned with our family and circle of friends. Not only are we of Italian descent, we are from NYC where there are the best restaurants in the world!!!! We have lived there over 60 years and have ate at the best! We entered the restaurant to see the entry King Kong sign about being the best -- better than NYC. I knew immediately that sign was spot on -- the restaurant smelled like my home growing up as a child on Sunday mornings! The aroma of the red tomato sauce carried us into our seats! (I think I was floating.) There were so many choices on the menu, it was difficult to make our choices. I decided on a plate of spaghetti with meat sauce and the chicken salad. My husband chose the raviolis and a side salad. The dinner included Italian garlic bread! The service from our server was divine: friendly, courteous and professional. The owner/chef visited us at the table a few times to be sure everything was alright, and it was MORE THAN alright. The food was "delicioso! From the baked goods to pizza it's very fresh and the barista does a fine job at making the coffees as well. My favorite is the caramel macchiato. If you haven't been to Smokey Mountain Bakers, treat yourself to an authentic Roan Mountain gem. Roan Mountain would not be the same without it.

Since everyone loves Italian, we were glad to see that Bullwinkels served a variety of pasta dishes. I ended up ordering the meal to go, so I have no comment on the actual establishment. The order consisted of a bowl of chicken noodle soup, fried mushrooms, spaghetti & meatballs, and garlic parmesan chicken wings. The chicken noodle soup was OK. I made the decision to order it because of the cold weather. The rest of the items were killer though. The friend mushrooms were some of the best I've ever had. So good in fact that I ate them all without any dipping sauce. The garlic parmesan wings were fantastic. I liked the fact that the garlic parmesan consisted of actual minced garlic and not powder. They were smothered all over the wings. It was so good, I took all the extra and mixed it into the spaghetti and meatballs.
