We've probably all had those places that we really wanted to go to because of the hype and when we went we were sorely disappointed. This pizza joint in Lansing North Carolina has been out of business since hurricane Helene devastated the area about a year and a half ago and we have been more than patiently waiting for it to reopen. It finally did and as luck would have it we were in the area this weekend and we're delighted to be able to enjoy not one but two pizzas. This is easily the best pizza joint in all of Ashe county and you would have to travel a ways to find better Pizza. Add that to the heartwarming story of how they struggled since Helene and finally reopened and this is just a place that if you're anywhere near this area you must come and get a pizza. Now I will say they're still not at full operation and you should be prepared to wait but as luck would have it there are some amazing shops that we love in the area there's an amazing supermarket and you can go next door and enjoy some coffee or tea or you can head to Molly chompers and get some hard cider but it'll be worth the wait for your pizzas. We had the chicken dinner pizza and the barbecue chicken pizza and the flavor of both was just extraordinary the only thing I wish is that the crust were a little crispier but taste is way more important to me. If you're ever in the West Jefferson area or even the Boone area it will be well worth your time to travel to this awesome little city and spend some local dollars and help out the economy this is one of those mountain communities that just doesn't know how to say give up. read more

Came out here and ordered pizza to go due to no seating available and the dining room but there is a nice patio next door that you can sit at between the pizza shop and the General Store the pizza itself is an excellent pizza very good quality also ordered house salads which had fresh ingredients grape ranch dressing they overall food was excellent a tip would be if you're going to order food to eat there on the patio call ahead cuz sometimes the wait times can be pretty long to get your food read more

I stopped in and picked up a Antipasto sandwich today. I know they're known for their pizza, but I was looking for something smaller and settled on that. The sandwich was packed with flavor (the good kind) and was pretty great.With it, I had a bag of salt and vinegar kettle chips (also good). Found myself in the beautiful downtown of Lansing while exploring during a week in Grayson Highlands and decided to stop in for a bite and some beers. Great joint. Small, personal, with an extremely friendly staff. Lots of locals/regulars in there which is always a great sign. Will definitely be back whenever I'm in the area. read more

They only do takeout currently and I'm not mad at that. With the lack of masks everywhere in the area, I was glad to see masks are worn and they didn't have dine in seating. It also looked like they were doing some remodeling in the space, which wouldn't allow dine in. Either way, I take that as a win. I ordered the cheese sticks and the firehouse 12 inch pizza. The cheese sticks weren't horrible, but also weren't the best I've had. The pizza on the other hand...it was so flavorful, healthy, and hit all the tastebud spots for pizza! The 12 inch was a good size for me to get 2 meals with the cheese sticks. My pizza didn't have pepperoni on it, which may have been a mistake on the chef, but it tasted wonderful regardless. Putting the spinach under the cheese was a great idea to leave room on top for all of the other veggies. 5 stars for the pizza for sure! Parking was hit or miss in the dark, but there are a few spots a block away off the main road. Quick in and out to get the pizza and pay and I was on my way home. Friendly staff definitely made it that much better! read more

So let me start by saying that the pizza is good. However I would not call it great. I am truly missing what all the raving reviews are for this place. I love the small town (Lansing) appeal but this is far from a pizza I would get excited about. We found the crust to be good but a bit bland, the cheese breadsticks were completely bland, even the cheese didn't taste like cheese. I understand their ingredients are local and we had no complaints about the toppings. I would eat here if in the area but would like to try something other than pizza next time. It took about 45 minutes for our order which we expected and they did let us know that when ordering. Worked out well for us as we explored the city park across the street. read more

Pie On The Mountain is the best pizza around. If you like crispy crust ask for well done. We love the crust the toppings and the specialty pizzas. If you want a full meal add a salad. The staff is friendly and helpful. If we have out of town guests, we always take them out to our local hot spot for pizza. We proudly brag about it and have never been disappointed. It isn't fancy to eat in but we are comfortable and the pizza makes you feel like you are in a truly great restaurant. read more

We drove a bit out of the way to come here. Though, if we're being honest, everything in this part of the VA/NC border area feels out of the way. Anyway. ‍ We ordered an artichoke and spinach pizza and a second veggie pizza. I was able to sub cheese types and toppings. Service was fast. We waited about 30 minutes total. The pizza was fabulous. The veggie is without red sauce, which I hadn't had before. It was so good. The spinach and artichoke was also great. We really liked the crispy crust. We were able to find a nicely shaded picnic table at the park across the road on which to have our pizza feast. The restaurant was able to provide plates and napkins for us. We were disappointed to find the seating area was closed due to a failure of previous customers to wear masks while in the establishment. Given that we encountered two people during our interaction and neither were wearing masks, I have to say I support the business in standing their ground to enforce the law to protect public health. Still a Five Star place! You now have to order at the counter, no big deal. Their pizzas and stuff are the best ever, nothing has changed over the years. Only now nobody wants to work, so no table service, don't let that stop you from coming here---it would be a mistake. A must when visiting the High Country! read more

It would have been really good but they didn't put any cheese on it. I asked for mozzarella and the regular cheese but it only had mozzarella. Everything else was good but thenbecause there was barely any cheese it turned to pizza soup. Maybe next time read more

The pizza, the sandwiches, the appetizers and the coffee are all excellent. The soup of day today was tomato bisque made with local goat cheese and was really tasty. The restaurant has an A sanitation rating and I saw regular hand washing by the staff (more than I have seen anywhere else) The young hard working owners live in an apartment above the restaurant with their children. read more

I wasn't expecting to be there for almost 3 hours, but in the end we all had fun. The food was actually really good for a place that is more a bar vibe. I know Pizza is in their name, but the appetizers and Wings won me over. The Buffalo Chips were really flavorful and filling. I love the different hot sauces they had, and their home made ranch was CHEF'S KISS. The wings were really crispy and well battered. If I ever get a chance to come back I would love to order plain, so I can drench them in their ranch sauce. The Pizza, while it wasn't perfect. The dough was giving sour dough and it was dry. The toppings and size were generous. I wished I ordered a medium. I liked eating it with ranch sauce, and buffalo. Easy fix for the dry dough. Do try their draft beers. I am not much of a drinker, and it can get intimidating trying to pick a drink with an extensive menu. However you can ask the servers for their recommendations, and you can actually try their beers, and you won't get stuck with a drink you hate. Do come here if you love to sing. They have open mic karaoke. I really liked that people from various tables were all going up taking turns singing. Looks like this town the folks are fun, and not at all shy. Plus its is Family friendly. If you don't like loud music and fun, well then avoid this place. I had fun eating, and singing. This place gets a 4, because the experience was fun. It wasn't a perfect 5, only due to the pizza dough and the slower service. Other than that, if I ever come back to Sparta, I will be stopping by for a bite.
