Great pizza and salads. Crust is perfect if you love it thin and crispy but not crunchy. Sauce is obviously homemade and they use fresh mozzarella. The blue cheese on the salad is the best. Short drive from West Jefferson and Grayson Highlands State Park. Due to COVID it is currently take out only which was fine. We took 20 minutes to enjoy a brief walk in the park across the street and took the food back to our place in West Jefferson. read more

Solid, solid pizza spot. I worked in pizza restaurants for years in my twenties, and the people who run this know what they're doing! Got the Chicken Dinner, and it was outstanding! The Prosciutto was also outstanding. If go back, I'm definitely getting the Fire House. 10/10 would recommend. Best pizza we've had, and we're pizza fans. We ate today's special, Heirloom Margherita. Waitress, Tera, recommended we buy the 18" so we'd have leftovers. Whoops! It was so good we killed it and our tasty fresh side salads. Should have ordered a spare pizza, I guess. Crust is thin and marvelous - very tasty and edges are crunchy. Very nice place for parties of four, most all the tables are four-tops. Even on Saturday night we had only a short wait and we were 2nd party waiting. A large party is vying for one table big enough for 8-10 peeps. There are at least 6 four-tops though, so pretty good turns on them. Service was friendly and very good. A nice switch after eating at a couple of places this week where the wait staff obviously weren't focused on getting the orders to the right customers. Tera clearly paid attention and got our orders right the first time. We appreciate it. The drive to Lansing is more than half an hour for us. Totally worth it for the best pizza in the county! BTW, the hours currently are until 9:30 pm nightly, Wednesday through Monday. read more

We'd heard the pizza was awesome & seen pix of the pizza online so we ordered one while at the little festival in Lansing. The plus is that the crust was excellent....crispy & done perfectly & they put enough pepperoni on. The HUGE negative is that there was hardly any sauce or cheese. It looked like they'd taken a brush & just lightly brushed the sauce on & the cheese was sparse & negligent. It made the top of the pizza tough & chewy. While searching for a place to eat on a rainy day and not able to do any hiking, we saw good reviews on Pie On The Mountain. I consider myself to be an experienced pie judge having tasted many many variations in our travels. From Chicago to New York, Hawaii and up and down the east coast. This was a very good pizza and I highly recommend a visit if in the area. Thin crispy crust with all homemade or local supplied ingredients. My wife had the white pizza and I had the Carnivore, a 5 meat specialty pie. The staff was very friendly and made us welcome. Limited seating, but nice atmosphere. We heard about this place and wanted to try it so we did. We got there at seven on a Saturday evening and it was about an hour wait at the time for a pizza. So we went to the park next-door and enjoyed the view. We got the pizza we brought it back to the park and ate and such a beautiful setting. We were in the high country for a family vacation. 12 people from our group ate here last night and every single person said this was by far the most unique and best pizza they had ever eaten. This place has ruined every other pizza I will ever eat, nothing can compare. The owner has a passion and it shows in his food. The ingredients are all local farm to table. Very fresh. It's a very small restaurant in a very tiny town - don't blink you might miss it- but the place was packed with take out orders and every table was taken. I couldn't believe this gem was in this location. And the prices were incredibly reasonable for the quantity and quality. Desserts are made daily (we came in at 7:30pm and most desserts were sold out). This place is worth the drive from anywhere in the area. read more

Small mountain community with the best home cooking in all of the south. I mean this area can make a PB&J taste gourmet. This little pizza shop brings a "college pizza joint" feel to the community where the young chefs and servers that work there truly care about the taste that they create. Old fashion country meets Rome, Italy in a college town is one way to describe this place. And if you don't have cell service...(You probably wont) They have free wifi so you can catch up on all of your contacts and social websites. I know after being in the mountains for a few days with no contact with the outside world this was a nice perk. Most of you may never get to go to this nice place but if you are anywhere near go out of your way to get there. read more

Would not ever stop here again. After a lovely day at Grayson Highlands we were so looking forward to trying this place out! First the awful - the restaurant is filthy. I took several pics of the floor - it hadn't been swept in what looked like days - and it wasn't just around one table, it was the entire dining room. Next the service - dismal. We were one of 3 tables in the whole place and the servers couldn't look up from their phones to refill water or bring our bill. Last the pizza - after noticing the floor I really lost my appetite but managed to eat one slice. It was ok. Mediocre at best. Most of the toppings were paper thin and flavorless. We stopped at Pie on the Mountain for lunch and were impressed by the quality of service and food. Locally sourced ingredients paired with people who love what they are doing is magic! Our party of 4 had salads (Caesar was great--homemade croutons and dressing), the Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner and buffalo chicken pizzas, and a Blue Ridge chicken sandwich (sans the bun). Produce was fresh and locally grown. Pizza eaters reported that the crust was light and crunchy. One declared this was the best pizza she'd ever eaten! In addition to sharing their food philosophy and good conversation with us, staff also brought us a sample of the hot sauce they were making! It was hot without being overpowering and had a great blend of flavors. We felt welcomed from the moment we stepped in the door and watched multiple take-out orders leave at lunchtime on Thursday--surely a testament to their popularity with the locals. Our server told us that she was proud to work there and because of their quality and reputation, we certainly agreed with her! Pie on the Mountain could easily be a hit in a much more urban area, but we're glad they are making great food from 90+ local providers in Lansing, NC. Who would have ever thought you can get such AMAZING pizza in the tiny mountain town of Lansing NC?!?! And who would have imagined putting a loaded baked potato on a pizza crust. The Mountain Man pizza is the most unique pie I have ever tasted, complete with a side of sour cream and/or Ranch. Don't miss out on the salads either. The Feta Louise is delicious, but I think the Lost Province beats it slightly. I advise you to save room for their oatmeal chocolate chip cookie too. Oh, and did I mention the balsamic & blue cheese dressings are homemade, as is the whipped cream (made with a hint of sour cream) which is offered with the cookie. Good sandwich on stick boy bread, that was a nice touch in this off the beaten path joint that has tasty sandwiches, fresh farm salads with a selection of beer and cider. Hot sandwiches were really good and took them down them down the street to Molly Chompers Cidery to enjoy on their deck. This spot has a clean small eat in area. Pizzas looked good and heard folks in West Jefferson rave about the pies. We had a BLT with a really thick chewy bacon. Tomatoes were tiny cherry ones, they must have been out of grown up tomatoes. Chicken sandwich was equally tasty. Not busy and took about 25 min to get served. Worth the drive to visit this spot. read more

After our experience last year, I was curious to see if anything had improved. We were staying with some family members that had never been there, so we offered to pick up some pies on the way back to the house. Before we left the house, we had agreed that at least one pizza would have bacon, which was offered on several. We got there about 4:30 and there was no one there. We started off by ordering the pizza with the bacon. We were told that they were out of bacon. Really? They still haven't figured out how much to order? I told her that we'd had a bad history of getting pizza there that had either the wrong ingredient or they were out of whatever we ordered. At this point, a good place would have offered something to make up for the continued issues, but not here. It's not like bacon is a rare commodity or that the were in the middle of a rush of bacon fanatics, the place was empty, and they were all standing around. Why wasn't someone restocking missing ingredients? Okay, no bacon, so I asked if they could substitute prosciutto. She told me it would be an up-charge because prosciutto is "so expensive." We asked how much and she said $2. Interestingly, the regular up-charge for that ingredient, as it's listed on the menu, is only $1, so I wasn't very happy. We substituted something else. We ordered two more pies and told her that we would be back at 7:15 to pick them up. She promised that they would be ready. We got there at 7:17. I saw one of the pies sitting on the counter in an open box, just chillin', so to speak. The other two were not done, so we waited. When we got them back to the house (about 20 min.,), the first one was barely lukewarm, so I don't know how long it had waited. The other two, while hotter, had hardly any toppings on them. We ended up, between the pies and the tip paying $60 for disappointing, barely acceptable food. I don't think we'll be going back. read more

Both were very nice and the wings were above average but could've been cooked a little more. They weren't raw or anything and I'm sure they would've cooked them longer had I remembered to ask.
