Here's mine…read more Getting a hand written thank you card from your neighborhood bank branch is good enough reason to stay loyal, but my relationship with BMO goes a lot further back and I will never switch banks if I can help it. Here's why: I've been a BMO customer since they bought Marshall and Ilsley Bank. I was a Marshall and Ilsley customer since they bought First Indiana Bank. Before I became a First Indiana Bank customer, I had a variety of terrible banking experiences with mega banks where I paid out hundreds of dollars in stacked overdraft fees at a time. I thought all the banks were out to get me. Way back when I had little kids we were victims of a vehicle break-in and the person who busted into our minivan ran off with a checkbook. The thief wrote $4700 in bad checks within two or three days. I mostly went to the Nora branch back then and there was a gentleman who took care of us through our mishap. We never had to worry about our bank account being drained. We didn't have problems with a single payment we had to make. Not a mortgage payment. Not a utility payment. Not even a cell phone bill. When this break-in occurred, I wasn't too far removed from those scrappy, youthful days where I *did* have to make choices on what bills to pay on time, and which ones could wait. I was quite relieved. After all, I had just bought my first house not too long prior and I did NOT want to screw that up. Lots of overdraft fees would have likely sunk me. That gentleman at the Nora branch said hello to me by name when I walked in from that incident onward. Eventually I moved to Carmel and the people at that branch got to know me by first name, too. I went on to pick up a (now closed, thankfully) HELOC and they were very helpful throughout the process. Now I live in Broadripple and I get thank you cards that not only come in adorable sizes, but also identify me by who I am; not just by my name. I've always felt respected as a BMO customer but this just drives the message home. I appreciate the card and Starbucks will be on me in the very near future.

This indicates a very healthy bank to me. I opened a third account this week. A new checking account in addition to the Money Market account I have and an IRA type Certificate of Deposit (CD). Because the lobby is closed currently and only available by appointment, I called for an appointment. To my surprise, they were able to open the account over the phone. The signature card and debit card were waiting for me in the drive-thru lane. And I received a free gift for opening the new account. An 89 piece household tool set in a carrying case. I also applied for and was approved for a credit card online. It was much more simpler than the last time I applied.

Always a good experience on the rare occasion I go in there. - Great rates - savings rates are the best I've seen in the area, personal loans rates are good as well. - Alliance One ATMs - no foreign ATM fees as long as you go to another bank with Alliance One ATMs. And recently they've added Allpoint, which is in most CVS, Walgreen's, and Target stores. This is a HUGE perk for me when traveling. - Online chat is available during business hours if you have quick or basic questions and don't need to physically go into the bank. Some things that could use a little TLC: - Net Teller (online banking) looks terribly outdated and is pretty clunky. You can't deposit checks from your phone like many other banks allow. - ATM deposits are done through envelopes you have to fill out every time. It would be much easier if they came filled out - I've already put in my card, they should know the account. And the ATM times out after a few seconds, and there's no way I can write in all of my personal information and account information before the time is up. (Pro tip: go to the ATM and let it time out, then keep an envelope in your car/home and fill it out for next time.) Of course you can go inside, but I almost always end up making it there after closing time, so the ATM is the only way to go for me.

He has a part time job so occasionally I make a deposit for him. When I come in to make his deposit, I don't need to fill out a deposit ticket. I don't need to show ID. All the bank requires from me is the name on the account and they make the deposit. Occasionally they will ask me for one piece of information to double check they have the correct account but its not an account number. In other words, they make you feel as if they know you so well (which they don't because I'm not in there on a regular basis) that they can make your deposit for you without providing the debit card, etc. I love that feeling of being in a small home town bank where everyone knows everyone. Its folksy, know what I mean? I will tell you that I shopped heavily for rates for a month before making a sizable IRA deposit. Home Bank had the best rate of return that I could find of all the banks that I checked. I even checked out credit unions, even though there are no credit unions in Mooresville. Some of them were able to match Home Bank's rate but I didn't want to travel that far. You might want to check this bank out. They still offer free gifts for opening accounts. I don't see that too much anymore.

The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable and have gone out of their way to make my banking experiences efficient and accurate. The drive-thru can be a little slow, but I prefer going in anyway, because they're always so pleasant. One of the business bankers, Bart, is fantastic and is also very supportive of local business. It has happened almost every time I've spoken with a call center person, over many years.... I'm an amateur linguist and am good with accents. I engage them in conversation and find out where they are calling from. Huntington Bank should not be giving out our private information to people on the other side of the world. Think of how many places our information has to go through before it ever gets to a call center there: probably many. Those call center workers may not even have a security clearance. They have access to our names, address, phone number, bank account information, etc. 2 tellers, 1 supposedly a manager, adamantly denied this and another "manager" also denied it. I was told I'd wait only about 5 min. to talk with her, then she told me it'd be another 20 min., at least. When she finally spoke with me, she was very passive-aggressive and rude with me. I don't think she even understood I was against the sending our information to the other side of the world; I think she thought I was racist, which I'm not. I called the customer service while walking to my car and once again, got someone working in the Philippines. I went back in the bank and told the teller that I had a person on the phone in the Philippines, and the tellers and manager refused to talk with the person on the phone, therefore passively avoiding the issue. Classic. The manager continued to be passive aggressive and rude. She had no understanding of "customer service." Why didn't she say, 'I'm sorry, I didn't know that. Let me call head office and pass your comment along" or something similar? She also wouldn't give me the phone number for their corporate office (not Customer Service.) She and the other employees insisted their corporate office # that they call for staff issues is the same # as the Customer Service #. If that were true, then they would have been glad to talk with a representative. But they refused to. Talk about avoidance and failure to be transparent with their customers!
