Always a good experience on the rare occasion I go in there. - Great rates - savings rates are the best I've seen in the area, personal loans rates are good as well. - Alliance One ATMs - no foreign ATM fees as long as you go to another bank with Alliance One ATMs. And recently they've added Allpoint, which is in most CVS, Walgreen's, and Target stores. This is a HUGE perk for me when traveling. - Online chat is available during business hours if you have quick or basic questions and don't need to physically go into the bank. Some things that could use a little TLC: - Net Teller (online banking) looks terribly outdated and is pretty clunky. You can't deposit checks from your phone like many other banks allow. - ATM deposits are done through envelopes you have to fill out every time. It would be much easier if they came filled out - I've already put in my card, they should know the account. And the ATM times out after a few seconds, and there's no way I can write in all of my personal information and account information before the time is up. (Pro tip: go to the ATM and let it time out, then keep an envelope in your car/home and fill it out for next time.) Of course you can go inside, but I almost always end up making it there after closing time, so the ATM is the only way to go for me.

It has happened almost every time I've spoken with a call center person, over many years.... I'm an amateur linguist and am good with accents. I engage them in conversation and find out where they are calling from. Huntington Bank should not be giving out our private information to people on the other side of the world. Think of how many places our information has to go through before it ever gets to a call center there: probably many. Those call center workers may not even have a security clearance. They have access to our names, address, phone number, bank account information, etc. 2 tellers, 1 supposedly a manager, adamantly denied this and another "manager" also denied it. I was told I'd wait only about 5 min. to talk with her, then she told me it'd be another 20 min., at least. When she finally spoke with me, she was very passive-aggressive and rude with me. I don't think she even understood I was against the sending our information to the other side of the world; I think she thought I was racist, which I'm not. I called the customer service while walking to my car and once again, got someone working in the Philippines. I went back in the bank and told the teller that I had a person on the phone in the Philippines, and the tellers and manager refused to talk with the person on the phone, therefore passively avoiding the issue. Classic. The manager continued to be passive aggressive and rude. She had no understanding of "customer service." Why didn't she say, 'I'm sorry, I didn't know that. Let me call head office and pass your comment along" or something similar? She also wouldn't give me the phone number for their corporate office (not Customer Service.) She and the other employees insisted their corporate office # that they call for staff issues is the same # as the Customer Service #. If that were true, then they would have been glad to talk with a representative. But they refused to. Talk about avoidance and failure to be transparent with their customers! I drive out of my way just not to go to that location because of their poor service.

He has a part time job so occasionally I make a deposit for him. When I come in to make his deposit, I don't need to fill out a deposit ticket. I don't need to show ID. All the bank requires from me is the name on the account and they make the deposit. Occasionally they will ask me for one piece of information to double check they have the correct account but its not an account number. In other words, they make you feel as if they know you so well (which they don't because I'm not in there on a regular basis) that they can make your deposit for you without providing the debit card, etc. I love that feeling of being in a small home town bank where everyone knows everyone. Its folksy, know what I mean? I will tell you that I shopped heavily for rates for a month before making a sizable IRA deposit. Home Bank had the best rate of return that I could find of all the banks that I checked. I even checked out credit unions, even though there are no credit unions in Mooresville. Some of them were able to match Home Bank's rate but I didn't want to travel that far. You might want to check this bank out. They still offer free gifts for opening accounts. I don't see that too much anymore.

I had so hoped I'd be able to write a positive review of Huntington. Our initial experience, where…read moremy husband and I had had small individual checking accounts, was positive enough that we decided to transfer our main checking and savings accounts to Huntington. We spent a lot of time getting our electronic transfers and auto pays established at Huntington, ordered checks and looked forward to a good experience. We received confirmations that the transfers/autopays were in place. Imagine our surprise when Huntington canceled two of our electronic transfers without advising us. This created major problems and embarrassment as those on the receiving end were denied their money, even though there was more than a sufficient balance in our account. We also incurred fees from the receiving institutions due to Huntington's actions. We called the bank's customer service line and were told we needed to provide paper copies of the other banks and credit cards we had linked to our account but could not tell us why, or who would see this confidential information. When my husband went to the branch with these documents, no one knew anything about this "requirement." It took us a long and frustrating experience to finally get access to our transfers. I wrote to the bank President, since the branch and customer service couldn't tell us why this had happened and how future similar issues could be avoided. I wanted him to know the experience of a new customer. I did not hear from him but a few weeks later, I had a voice mail from someone from Huntington. He did not leave his name and when .I returned the call, his voice mail did not identify his name or the bank's name but I left a message anyway. I received a call back from Ryan Mahargh (though he never gave me his name and I had to ask). He had no information to share. I really don't know why he called me. He said he was a regional director over the retail branches. He was unable to explain what had happened, telling me that "that is part of security and they don't tell us about that." He said my experience was unusual. He expressed no apology for inconvenience, appreciation that we were customers or any of the niceties that would have helped smooth things over, such as covering the fees we incurred due to the bank's mistakes. He told me he would send our situation to the "Escalation Department" and told me I'd hear from them with 5 business days. When I asked if he would be following up with them to be sure I heard from them, he told me no, that once he turned it over to them, he was finished with it. When I asked for a name/phone number of someone in that department in case I didn't hear anything, he told me he couldn't provide that to me. This call was more than a month ago and I have never heard from anyone from the 'Escalation department", Ryan Mahargh or anyone else from Huntington. My recommendation is to avoid this bank if you value customer service and a positive banking relationship. You won't find either here.

This indicates a very healthy bank to me. I opened a third account this week. A new checking account in addition to the Money Market account I have and an IRA type Certificate of Deposit (CD). Because the lobby is closed currently and only available by appointment, I called for an appointment. To my surprise, they were able to open the account over the phone. The signature card and debit card were waiting for me in the drive-thru lane. And I received a free gift for opening the new account. An 89 piece household tool set in a carrying case. I also applied for and was approved for a credit card online. It was much more simpler than the last time I applied.
