Holy cow it's spicy! Like as you eat, you get used to the spice but the initial first bite almost made me throw my papaya salad in the garbage. This review is only for delivery which they packaged well and good portion. I ordered a 1 spicy and its Thai spicy. They warn that 2 is really spicy so thanks for that. So what else are my options when I can barely eat 1? Thankfully I didn't taste sugar in my salad like most places use. But dang, it's hot! read more

I LOVE this place - it is my go-to Thai place, and I live in Herriman Their massaman curry is delicious and the perfect consistency, their spring rolls are crunchy and quite large with a perfect chili sauce, and their Thai Tea is what me dreams are made of. 10/10 would recommend! read more

I only got wind of this place through a passenger of mine during one of my drop offs in the area. I would have never realized a Thai restaurant was anywhere near. The name Tea Rose Diner assumes a western local establishment instead of an asian one. I decided to give this place a try today for lunch since I'm in the area. Parking is directly in front of the restaurant. I found this out after I had parked in the back; reserved for the owner and there's a low driveway entrance so be careful if your car is lowered. Just park across the street -- plenty of parking. Duh!! Walked in and was greeted by the lovely waitress--I would say she's middle aged and for sure is Thai! Seatings has about 7 booths (up to 4 seats), 8 Square tables seating up to 4 and 2 rectangular tables seating up to 8. So overall it seems like there's plenty of seating. However, I came in at around 11:30am and I was the only one. After 10 minutes, people started to flow in. Now, at 11:56am, there's only 1 table left!!!! This place is POPULAR!!! Fitting for a restaurant located on Popular Street & 5th Avenue!! Hahaha!!! I orders the Larb Pork Salad to go with White Jasmine Rice, instead of the usual Sticky Rice that comes with it. I asked for mild since I don't know the intensity is this place yet. The food came out in leas than 10 minutes, all before all the other patrons came in. This DISH IS VERY VERY VERY GOOD. I have been going to Tea Rose Diner for many years. I am a true patron of this off the beaten path Thai food treasure. It is just west of State Street in Murray. The menu is large offering Thai and America favorites. The curries are some of the best in the valley, and the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are what bring me back again and again. Be warned that they measure the spice level based on authentic Thai resistance, so if you are a hot wimp like I am then order level 0. It is locally owned and operated, and the owners are often the ones cooking or serving you food. And the place can get very busy so allow some time, or order ahead if in a rush. Ok. Listen. Their "heat system" is NO JOKE. We love, let me reiterate we LOVE SPICY FOOD. Like your chili verde is medium!? This is for wimps!! When we eat at Bombay for Indian? We order hot. So when I say take heed I mean it. I think we for a 2 and a 2.5 on another dish and they were almost inedible. (Almost) like noses ran and our mouths and throats may have become numb partway through. My husband and I have been here a few times. They consistently have great food and service. I normally go for the noodle dishes with Thai food but opted for the Thai Sweet Basil Stir Fry which was a good choice. This used to be my favorite Thai place. Heck, I'd drive 25 min each way to get food. I stopped in on a not busy Saturday afternoon and ordered my favorite Fresh Spring Rolls. No longer are they the big enough for a meal size. They shrunk. By a lot. Like, really? I don't think these three minis equall a former normal sized one. I get food costs are up. Price of these increased already within the past year or so. But, I'd rather see another increase than a decrease in quantity. The peanut sauce is the best. Still. read more

A great place to grab lunch if you're a Thai fan. When I worked near by I went weekly. I tried a lot of their menu and was never disappointed. Also, believe them when they tell you that very very spicy is very very spicy. You don't have to order anything super spicy. Find your threshold and stick to it so you can enjoy your food. I understand inflation has affected everything, but tea rose pricing now seems more in line with the fancier FAV bistro prices. $16+ tax for coconut soup for takeout? Also, the spring rolls are great, but are now $10 and significantly smaller rolls than they previously were. So, almost $30 with tax for one person. I've been eating at Anny's restaurants for 15 years, and I'll continue to support her businesses, though just not as frequently since it hits the pocketbook harder. read more

I met a friend here for lunch and we both loved it. We each got different curries to try and shared. I had the green curry (kept it mild) and my friend ordered the yellow curry, we loved them both and had plenty extra, but didn't take our leftovers home since neither of us were going home anytime soon. It's been a long time since I've eaten here but the food has always been good so I suggested it for a team lunch. When we arrived almost every single table was occupied or dirty. We stood there for at least 10 minutes before the unfriendly waitress/hostess came up to ask how many were in our party. We had a party of 8 and there was a perfect table right up front but it still had leftovers on it from a previous table that had left before I even arrived. She just waved towards the back wall and told us to find two separate tables--so much for a team lunch. The ambience was horrible. We were squished into a back hall where you could hear the clatter of plates and cooking from the back. The lights above us kept blinking on and off and the buzz from the old appliances was unbearable. Both the service to order and the food took quite a bit of time but the food tasted as good as it usually does at least. I ordered the green curry and we also had the pad thai and fried rice at our table. Everyone said their food was good. When I went to pay she automatically charged extra for the large party. I ended up paying $20 for a single plate of curry and horrible service. I would never recommend this place again. I'm giving it two stars since the food was good. read more

I've been eyeing this place for years, but it definitely fell short of expectations. Pad see ew has been my go to dish for a year and theirs was the least favorite version I've tried. Spice level 1 was so mild without any kick, while my husbands spice level 2 stir fry was too hot for me to take more than one bite. We also ordered the spring rolls which were good and the order was huge, but again, I didn't love them. The sauce was too syrupy/sweet. Enjoyed our lunch here - very tasty and friendly wait staff. Started with delish spring rolls - good peanut sauce and the special hot sauce ! I'd put the hot sauce on everything - a little sweet with a taste of tamarind and heat - perfect! Then came our Tom Yum - hot & sour soup with tofu and lots of veggies- loved all that cabbage and carrots in the soup . We ordered the small and it was plenty to share with my friend. We also ordered the Massamun Curry with pork! This came with rice and very tasty with a bit of heat and lots of flavor. Can't wait to return the food is yummy and service helpful. I usually trust Yelp with restaurant hours, but my friend and I walked in around 8:40PM and were refused a table because they were about to close, even though Yelp said they close at 9:30PM, not 9PM. I felt rushed when ordering, like they just wanted us out of the restaurant. We weren't even given a menu when we ordered, but luckily I'm a regular customer at Chabaar so I know my usuals. We ordered spring rolls and red curry with tofu. We got our order pretty quickly and left the restaurant. We ended up walking a little bit to State Street and sat on a bench to eat while watching cars drive by -- not a bad experience after all. read more

TL;DR: "Hole in the wall for spicy authentic Thai food" - white dude who knows little about ethnic food or spice. Tea Rose is hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in SLC. I drag my friends here for my birthday every year and try to find other reasons to go throughout the year. If I didn't have a dining out budget, I would go here every weekend. I love everything about this place. FOOD: The food is delicious. SLC does not have a ton of Thai options, but this one is kind of a hidden gem. I usually get the mango or pineapple curry and I have never been disappointed. Both of those curries have a good balance between the creamy/spicy curry and the subtle sweetness from the fruit. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back for more. I had the drunken noodles once and they were also very good. For appetizers, I have ordered the cream cheese wontons a few times and they were delish. A word about the heat level. Tea Rose has a scale of 0-5 for spiciness. 0 is mild, 1.5 is medium, 3 is fire, and I have never seen anyone order a 5 - if you can survive a 5 you get your picture on the "Wall of Flame". There are only like 10 people on there currently. Now at this point in reading this review, you might click on my profile and think "what does this pasty white dude know about spicy food" and you would be right. But some of my other friends more equipped to handle spice agreed. Long story short, if you are looking for really spicy Thai food, this is definitely the place! ATMOSPHERE: This place is a hole in the wall. It is kind of tucked away in Murray and I have never had to wait to be seated, even with large groups of people. I am hesitant to even write a raving review about this place because I almost don't want this to be discovered and ruin the atmosphere that I know and love. I'm kind of blown away! I've been to several Thai restaurants in the past, but they've never been authentic. My mom is Thai, I guess I've been spoiled in that way. Every time I go to a Thai restaurant, it's always the same. The food is way too sweet and it doesn't taste like the homemade stuff. It's more bland and they leave out the seasonings that make the dish Thai in the first place. That is not the case here! This is the first Thai restaurant I've been to in my LIFE that had decent papaya salad. Given, I generally avoid Thai restaurants like the plague. I'm definitely a fan of Tea Rose! As far as spicy level, they gave me a 2.5, and it was sufficiently spicy. Also amazing! There has only been two other restaurant in UT that was able to quench my need for spice. I will probably try a 3 the next time around. :) I wasn't a huge fan of the nam tok though. It was good! And it wasn't super sugary, but it was still a little too sweet for my taste. Guess I'm just used to that home cooking. I also really enjoyed the mangoes/sticky rice and yellow curry. I'll definitely have to come back try out some of the other dishes. From the outside the building is just a little run down and uninviting, but this place has some of the best Thai food in Salt Lake city! Level 2 is about as spicy as you could want... any higher and you are trying to hurt yourself (and it costs extra). Everything is good here! I ordered takeout for me and my coworkers. Within 15 minutes of putting in our orders the food was hot and ready. One of the things that I love about Thai food is that there are TONS of Vegan options, and you can substitute nearly every meat dish for Tofu. I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu and no bean sprouts. IT WAS SO GOOD! Wow. It was the "punch you in the face" with sensations kind of good. Idk what the sauce is that they use but it is very flavorful. The portions were huge and my order was only $10. My coworkers were also very happy with their food, one also ordered Pad Thai and the other ordered Pad See-Ew! Taking off one star cause the takeout service was a little funky. The lady gave me attitude when I asked for hot sauce for me & my coworkers, after I had already swiped my card. She said they "usually charge for hot sauce but it's okay this time". Haha uhm I don't think I had ever been charged for hot sauce before at any other restaurant so I thought that was a bit odd, and I thought, well... the hot better be pretty damn good. So anyways.
