The bubble tea here is solid and comes in many fruit and milk flavors, and a choice of either slush or tea. The tapioca pearls are chewy and you can customize the amount of added sugar to your tea so that it is not too sweet. You can also add different toppings to your drink - my favorites are the boba poppers and fruit jellies. The prices are very reasonable but beware of the $5 credit card minimum - a bubble tea costs a bit less so be prepared to buy another snack as well. I've had the tea eggs from here which came in a ziploc bag and were too salty. They also sell other frozen desserts like shaved ice and frozen yogurt. There are two flavors of frozen yogurt on their menu - original and cookies & cream - but I've gone three times and every time cookies and cream wasn't available. If they consistently don't have a flavor, maybe they should take it off the menu? Overall, solid bubble tea and reasonable prices - great place for a quick snack near Columbia. read more

First and last time here. I asked for a drink with tapioca on the side. They gave me a drink with the tapioca in it. When I said they got my order wrong, they said that they couldn't fix it. And they don't offer refunds. Go to the bubble tea place down the street instead. read more

This place has the best Boba ever! It's actually spelled TMagic though. Difficult to find this place online. Life uptown would be a little miserable if Tea Magic had not existed. This place has been my go-to spot whenever I crave boba. There's a wide selection of milk tea and other specialty drinks to choose from. My favorite is the Yogurt Green Tea with boba, which basically tastes like a cup of Yakult (delicious!). The consistency of the boba is pretty good, always chewy and fresh. For regulars, they have a stamp reward card system (Buy 10 get $3 off your 11th cup). Service is speedy and there are a few tables for customers who want to have their drinks at the store. Their sizing is interesting in that their large is HUGE and their small is the size of a regular cup of boba. I made the mistake of ordering their large once and almost had a boba-overdose. In summary: - One of the best spots for boba uptown - Get the stamp card if you're a regular! - $5 minimum for credit card read more

This was near the Columbia University, the Seinfeld restaurant and was small place. It was really hot in here for some reason and the seating was limited. There was a large group of people who took up all of the seats and tables except by the window. The menu had a lot of choices and I decided on a medium Black Milk Tea ($4.15) with pearls ($0.50). The medium size here was a lot of other places' large size and they displayed the different sized cups below the menu to help you decide. The milk tea with pearls took a few minutes to prepare. It was good to me and I finished it fairly quickly. Stop by for some milk tea! read more

Service is great. Decor is cute and fun. The jasmine green milk tea and crepes taste delicious

Pros: (+) The Large is massive (32 ounces) - can serve for 2 people (+) They sell pork buns Cons: (-) Slow at times (-) Line situation is awkward when it's busy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The thing that I like about this place is that they sell the large in a 32 ounce which you can share with someone. I also like that they sell pork buns which I like to enjoy along with my bubble tea. The seating is a bit awkward when it's busy. Since it's a narrow place, the line situation gets a bit awkward between the order and pickup line and waiting for your order. read more

I can't believe I'm writing a positive review of this place. When it first popped up, a bubble tea place across the street from pink berry and not as close to campus as other bubble tea options, I thought it was doomed to fail quickly. I passed by daily wondering who thought this could be a good idea. I was angry that they were wasting a perfectly good store front in the Columbia food wasteland that could have been used for what I really want to see near Columbia (a good ramen place, like Naruto perhaps). Finally, yesterday, I decided I had to go in and find out what is up. I walked in smugly expecting the place to suck. The interior is awkwardly spacious for a place in Manhattan. It feels like they should be offering more there and just haven't figured out what or how. The options were confusing and it took me a while to figure it out while also taking the couple behind me even longer (hopefully that means I wasn't the only one). Eventually I asked the guy behind the counter what he suggested: oolong milk tea, cold. So I tried it. And the rest is a beautiful blur. It was absolutely 100% delicious. I'm actually anxious to go back. If they were open earlier in the morning (they don't open until 11am) I would stop by regularly on my way to work and treat this as my new go to morning caffeine fix. Now I actually hope this place can figure itself out and find where it fits into the neighborhood. They have foods they can warm up for you in the microwave as lunch options and asian pastries too, but I'm still crossing my fingers that they will expand to offer just a few more food types. I still am not convinced that this place won't crumble like so many other restaurants recently have in the area... but now at least I hope that it doesn't. read more

It's huuugggeeee But actually, there jumbo-sized bubble tea is literally jumbo-sized. We stopped by mainly because we saw other people walking down the streets with these gigantic cups. Unfortunately, that's all that amazed me. Their Thai Tea Bubble Tea was not so great. The tea was way too sweet (and with Thai tea flavor, that's saying something) and the bubbles were a little too soft for my liking. I will say that I did notice they were cooked in black sugar and honey, which is a personal favorite of mine and they get points for authenticity. It's a little pricey for bubble tea, but given the location and scarcity of options, I would say it's one of the best options around. They lots of other snacks and goodies, so if you're ever in the area with friends, craving boba, and want a place to hang out, hit up Tea Magic (Tmagic?). I can only imagine that it gets quite a lot of business from Columbia students. Pros: cooking methods, jumbo-size option Cons: a little sweet (should be able to adjust this), price read more

Best bubble tea close to Columbia. Green milk tea was nice, not sweet. Small place with several tables. They also sell some bakery goods and snacks (pork buns, cereal, ramen). My friend ordered the pork bun, and she said it wasn't that great, but she enjoyed her honey jasmine tea. Still amazed at how expensive bubble tea costs in Manhattan... Only $3.50 here, but I'm so used to paying less than $2 in the San Francisco Bay Area.... read more

TeaMagic is definitely a hit or miss place. Some of their flavors are the best I've ever had, while others are quite literally their worst. Here's an overview of the flavors I've had: 1. Hazelnut: Amazing, literally my favorite flavor ever. This is my usual order. 2. Taro: Also amazing, one of the best taros I've ever had. Definitely more on the sugary side (which I like). 3. Coconut: Very good -- more on the coconut side than the milk (which i like). 4. French Vanilla: Solid, definitely up there, but I've had better french vanilla. 5. Almond: Absolutely not -- Horrendous. Please do not get! 6. Black Milk tea: also incredibly mediocre! regretted trying it. read more

Terrible terrible customer service. I ordered a gift pack $79.00 group of 8 teas. My first order. This was a gift for my daughter who was excited to try the tea. I like to purchase local to help out local small businesses. Well, Magic Hour tea is 34 miles from my home and it took 15 days to process the order and get it to me. Their website said it would arrive in 5 days. When I contacted them voicing my concerns, after 18 days, it just happen to arrive the next day. Funny how that happened. Also, I then received a response 3 days after sending inquiry. The response to me comes back to "Dear one". Your order was delivered on the 3rd and they listed the tracking number. No shit! Nothing about sorry for delay or anything about hoping we enjoy the tea. My the way on the message I sent them, I signed my full name. I don't need to be talked down to as "Dear one". Be aware of their poor processing practices and their condescending communications. I see from reviews, I am not the first to complain about their customer service. I will never order from these people again!! read more

I feel like it's unfair to leave a review and I've only been hear once. so, this is just a benefit of the doubt review/rate. I came in hear looking for something quick. I'm not a straight up dairy person, haven't been for a minute, I do almond milk. So, looking at their teas I was excited to try their honey jasmine green tea. The man at the register, older and dressed in plain clothes, asked what size and if I wanted bubbles. I was shocked but pleasantly surprised that bubbles came in it so I said yes! After my order is processed he proceeds to make my drink and soon after his phone rings. While he's making my drink he's talking on the phone. Eventually he turns around and gives me a cloudy drink. Man, I'm stuck. Confused. Huh? So I just take the drink bc maybe this is how it's suppose to be made AND I have a bus that I've never taken before to catch. My first sip and I'm go "yeah this is milk". I could've went back and told him that this isn't what I asked for. But I didn't even feel like it because maybe just saying "honey jasmine green tea" was wrong. I probably should've said "dairy-free" too. Or he could've asked me tea or milk tea, so this confusion won't happen. Nevertheless, the drink was drunk. It wasn't that bad but I don't do dairy. I'd come back only to try the tea. TEA. And if it's not what I ordered I'll be sure to tell them and be specific. Point of this review, I didn't get what I ordered but it wasn't bad just not great. Be specific when you order read more

Tea was good but bubbles were not. Bubbles were a little too chewy, but not entirely too off from good quality bubbles. The tea tasted great and hey have a variety of flavors. Some of the ones that peaked my interest were mint, chocolate, hazelnut. Prices were fair, about the same amount more or less by 50 cents for typical bubble tea. I asked for half sugar and hey graciously accommodated that. I have this a 3/5 because bubbles in bubble tea make half of the tea and while the actual tea was great the other half wasn't great. I would go back there if I was in the area but I wouldn't make a special trip out there just for these average bubble teas. They have ice cream and froyo but we didn't try that. Overall average. read more

As many other reviewers have pointed out, this is decent *for the area* (well, not anymore, given that Shiny Tea opened nearby - see below). The boba is often not very good, and not as soft as it should be. It has the texture of boba that is a bit stale. Drinks aren't a bad price, but the flavors are all lacking. In particular, the taro milk tea has a grittiness and an odd aftertaste, and the almond milk tea is really bland. The food options are limited and just OK in terms of price and quality. I want to like this place more, especially since I work literally around the corner, but it's just mediocre boba on their best days and a horrible experience on the rest of their days. There's absolutely no reason to come here when Shiny Tea, which serves up consistently great boba AND is priced the same, is just a few blocks down the street. read more

Tea-LAME! (lol I didn't come up with that. :-P It is accurate though!) Had Thai Tea and classic Black Milk bubble tea. They actually tasted alike, and if you know both, they should not taste alike! Both were too plain. Tasted just like milk and sugar. Not much flavor to either of them. read more

Ordered a passion fruit black tea, normal sweetness with aloe and and a pomegranate black tea, 50% sweetness (an attempt to cut down on sugar, which was regrettably the wrong choice for here) also with aloe. I think if you're in the area and desperate then sure, stop by here. The passion fruit with 100% sweetness was pretty good but it couldn't mask the plastic-y taste of the aloe. It was really off-putting. So of course with 50% sweetness on the pomegranate, the plastic aloe taste was more pronounced. I ordered a small and wish they came in smaller. Couldn't understand why aloe would taste this way. Although I think I was tasting more of the tea instead of the sweetener/syrup/whatever they used to flavor their tea. I don't think I'll be coming back here unless I'm super desperate and in the area again. read more

As a entrepreneur and business owner that also started when I was younger in the restaurant business. I always try to give constructive criticism to other business owners, as well as calling out their employees that poorly represent the business they chose to work for. There was nobody there, the one attendant lady had the biggest negative attitude. I even had to ask her if anything was wrong with her. Her response was "I just woke up" followed by a bunch of attitude and slamming things after I asked her if she could use nondairy milk instead of cream. My drink was decent, but I won't go back and her negativity was so intolerable that I had to write a review so hopefully the owner will see it. C If you can't serve others with a smile, or at least, without the small brat attitude, then someone else deserves the job! And I left this because she was hell-bent on holding her attitude towards a customer in an empty store.. read more

Some of the flavors are decent, but alot of the drinks have little to no flavor and just taste like colored milk. I wouldn't bother at all with the food, it appears at a lot of locations that so few people order it that they don't know how to prepare it properly. read more

It's pretty good! This afternoon, I had a delicious green tea bubble drink. My issue: a $6.00 credit/debit card minimum. I didn't have cash on me today; offered my card -- and was then told, "there is a $6.00 minimum, would you like to make it a large instead?" I didn't really want to, but was really in the mood for this bubble tea (it's a rare occasion that I go for one of these), so I gave in. Yes, I drank the whole thing -- but was I worth spending $6.00? Hardly. My inclination is that it is a tactic to make more money. I might go back, but most likely not -- even though I work half a block away -- for this reason only. There are enough options in the neighborhood. read more

Being a masculine, man's man kind of guy, I tend to drink my tea with milk and bubbles. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Aaron, tapioca is pure starch, extracted from the root of the plant species Manihot esculenta, native to the Amazon. How do you expect to drink that stuff and not get fat?" Simple. I walk while drinking it.* You too can enjoy the miracle of the tasty oolong milk tea, the touristy caramel boba tea, or my personal favorite Taro milk tea -- all from right here in Manhattan Valley at Tea Magic. The tea itself, especially the Taro, is excellent. The boba/bubbles are usually great, although I had one experience where they were very squishy and effeminate. You already know how I feel about masculine tea, so effeminate bubbles are simply unacceptable. I've heard that they make a mean frozen yogurt as well. This could be your chance to shed the chains of corporate New York and get the fuck out of Pinkberry once and for all!! Freedom!!
