TL;DR I'm forced to pay over $3500 in fraudulent charges It's sickening that TD Bank has rigid high standards for its cardholders, but will not stand up to extreme credit card fraud. When I opened a credit card in 2023, it was a triumph after initially being rejected in 2018, then spending years building credit. The banker told me to use credit exclusively because it was safer than debit. I have been painfully let down by TD Bank and online banking. To use mobile banking for my credit card, I had to add an authorized user. This is because the app opens with a pop up. I dismissed it many times, but eventually added the requested information, naming myself as the only authorized user. Since I already had a card, I did not expect another one. A second card was mailed to me without my knowledge. It was stolen. By the next month, there were about $3500 in fraudulent charges on my account. I did not see & report those until four months after the last fraudulent charge. Last summer was rough for me. I suffered an injury and had ambulance bills. I spent an enormous amount of money on an important move and was packing up my life. My grandmother was ill. I did not have a debit card, so all of my transactions were on credit. The summer's pain dragged on into the fall when I realized my account had been defrauded. The first fraudulent charge happened so quickly after the card was mailed (six days) that I now doubt it arrived in my locked mailbox. By following up with merchants, I learned that my card was used with a fake ID to buy a phone & a phone line two weeks after it was mailed. None of the agents I've spoken with know for certain how the card was activated, but I was told that it had to have been done online. It's unlikely that one of my two devices, a phone and a laptop, was used to activate the card. At the time, I lived alone. As a user, I expect online banking to flag suspicious activity or at least to clearly show cards and transactions. TD Bank takes no responsibility for stewarding my account from theft & fraud in that way. I was not notified that my account had a second card added to it, so there was a break in the chain of custody. No one was watching the card activity. In comparison, Discover alerts me to card activity daily so that I can review it. During that difficult summer, I made two mistakes - I interacted with a frequent pop up in my mobile app, and I did not export the PDF statement for June until four months later. The second card is only visible on the PDF export. The pattern of spending on the second card is clearly fraud when I can see it. The amount demanded is about 10% of my net salary, before rent. I feel gutted - I have lost sleep and appetite due to stress. I had started applying to professional development programs, but will now have to postpone my dreams to pay a thief's debt. TD Bank has continued to charge late fees and interest during the past two months when I have been calling the bank weekly to dispute. To avoid interest, I would need to pay in full with the gift my grandmother left me in her passing. I am crushed. I acknowledge these agents for helping me - the Harvard Square branch opened my account, the Brighton brank aided my filing a claim. There have been five calls from collections. I received help from customer support agents & a manager. Investigations, Credit Card Services and the chairman of the board team spoke to me at length. These friendly representatives professionally enforced an impassive policy that ground me down until I gave in and began to make payments again. Today, TD Bank has managed to squeeze about $4000 in fraudulent charges, interest & fees, but has lost a truly lifetime customer. I learned about bank accounts for the first time while on a Girl Scout field trip to TD Bank. I looked for the big green door handles any time my parents took me to the bank. I trusted TD Bank with my checking and savings, but my money is not safe with you. Your process simply isn't justified. It certainly doesn't work for me. Fucking negative stars pls. DON'T COME HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING LIED TO DIRECTLY IN THE FACE. GO TO CAPITAL ONE OR EVEN SANTANDER, BoA, BUT NOT HERE. Came in June to open an account because there was an online promotion for $300 if you open an account and set up direct deposit, etc. I didn't want to enter my info online so I went to this branch in person. I asked in the bank if they would do the offer in person, they said yes! WITH LOTS OF ENTHUSIASM! They musta been happy they found their next victim. So I open an account and fulfill all the requirements of the offer. Now fast forward to November, I still have not received the bonus. I called customer service and was informed that it was only an online promo. So these mother puckers LIED TO ME JUST TO GET ME TO OPEN A NEW ACCOUNT. I went into the branch again roughly 2 weeks ago to inquire and the same person who I opened the account with, Shuevy or something, acted like this never happened and she doesn't "remember". BULLCRAP. So I get handed to a different customer service person, Eliana. We sit at her desk while she attempts to verify the promo and my info. She then proceeds to write an email to some other department in TD bank to process my bonus, like wtf. So after she sent the email out, I was told to wait 2 weeks and the $300 should show up. Well nope. Nada. Before leaving, they had the nerve to try to get me to open a fucking credit card for a $200 bonus. Bitch, I didn't get my initial $300 why the fuck would I sign up for a card and then have you tell me again in 3 months "oh I don't remember that promotion". Fuck that. Maybe if you got me the $300 in the first place I'd consider the stupid credit card. Waste of fucking time. Fuck TD bank and your non existent work ethics. TL:DR: They lied to me about an existing promo to get me to open an account. During a recent home purchase, I tried multiple times to reach TD Bank by telephone. No answer at either the branch or the customer service line. No way to leave a message at the branch and waited 1 hour 45 minutes for the customer service line with - guess what - no answer. I waited until after business hours and called the branch, and was able to leave a message that was never answered. Also, I repeatedly cannot get to bill pay. Negative Stars - worst bank customer service I have ever experienced. Systems are antiquated. You can open an account online but have to go into a branch to do anything with it. Limits on transfers are ridiculously low and take 3 to 4 days to clear. Call customer service and after 18 minutes of waiting it hangs up on you - again - have to go to a branch to do anything. For its retail banking, all I have to say is "consumers beware" especially if you are looking for a user-friendly online banking experience. There are so many tricks and traps -- move on to another bank. If you are looking for a mortgage banker, this is a good option. I wanted to take a moment to give some feedback about TD Bank mortgage. When my husband and I had an accepted offer on a house we were wanting to purchase, we started doing our research for the best mortgage rates. TD Bank offered a fantastic rate, and we could not pass up the deal. We then told our realtor and she immediately said that she advised us not to use TD Bank because they are unreliable in their follow through for mortgages. My husband and I thanked her and decided that, once again, the rate was worth the potential trouble. We just closed last Thursday, and in reflection, I am not sure about our decision. Our experience with TD Bank mortgages was pathetic. We found the the whole experience to be unprofessional, lacking communication, knowledge and follow through. Here is a list of why we feel this way. 1. TD Bank had us upload all of our application materials/supporting evidence repeatedly to multiple platforms and TD emails. There is no organization, which causes confusion for the TD Bank mortgage representative and underwriter. There were many emails back and forth trying to identify where information was located, which seems inappropriate. 2. We were asked to provide evidence of funding for the down payment and closing fees, which we did about a month before our closing date. We then did not hear from anyone about if we had handled what was needed or not. We reached out via email and phone several times, with no response. Several times we requested a phone call to quickly clear things up but never heard back. We finally had to call our local branch to have someone contact the mortgage rep/underwriter for us. 2. The amount of money that the down payment and closing costs were going to total to was incorrect because they had not factored in the P&S amount that we had already put down. 3. We had provided plenty of liquid monetary evidence for the downpayment and closing, yet we were emailed (after reaching out to the branch) several times saying that we were short on money. We kept asking for the exact number (since they were wrong the first time) and re-uploading to multiple platforms/emails the same documents over and over again. No one would provide us with the amount we needed to show. Long story short, they had to admit to us that they did not look at one of the documents that we had provided, but they still never provided us with the number. 4. We found out 5 days before our closing that TD Bank mortgage did not provide our lawyer with the mortgage documentation. We tried to contact our mortgage rep and underwriter, but could not get ahold of them again. We reached out to the branch again and finally got a return call. We were told that everything was set and a box just needed to be checked. They would let us know that next day that the box was checked. We did not hear back. 5. We ended up reaching out to the rep's and underwriter's manager to help us out and were told that it was not as easy as just checking a box. This was 3 days before we were supposed to close. This manager (Doug, who was absolutely wonderful) assured us that he would put a rush on this and try to get it done. That whole day we received a ton of emails trying to get the mortgage done. It appeared that nothing had been handled on our mortgage prior to this time. 6. We actually were able to close on the correct date, but we found a couple issues at the time of closing. First, we were charged $525 for an appraisal that never happened (we had signed to waive this) and my name was not on the mortgage at all, even though it was on every document along the way. We were able to fix both situations thanks to both our lawyer and Doug. I understand that this is a pandemic and patience and understanding is definitely necessary, however the lack of information that was handled at the last minute but could have easily been communicated weeks in advance cannot solely be blamed on that. I don't think it is an unrealistic expectation that an email is responded to in a timely manner or at all. We honestly would have even been satisfied with a short acknowledgement of email receipt. If you are looking for a mortgage, think long and hard about the importance of customer service to you before committing to TD Bank. read more

Very dissatisfied & questionable experience today at Main Street Waltham branch. Deposited descent sum of cash to my account at a TELLER. Over two hours later, I went to the store to make a purchase & my card was declined. My TD Bank app did not remotely reflect I had made a CASH deposit in the Branch hours prior! When I contacted the Branch, I was told "It's there now." I have lodged a complaint as I demand answers as to WHY this happened! Definitely looking for a better Bank! They don't have tons of hidden fees (unlike most big banks), this location is on my way home from work, they have great hours (they are still open after 5 when I'm on my way home from work), and the staff is always helpful. Horrific service on a mortgage. Systems/on-line is late 90's. Paid off the mortgage. After two weeks, the payment didn't show on the account on-line, so I called their customer service. After being on hold for 45 minutes, I was told that I would have to call back to a different department (they wouldn't contact me). So there is a six figure wire transfer, shown to have "arrived" at TD Bank, but they can't get it credited to an account in 14 business days. As of this writing, still no idea on the status of the payment. So if you have hundreds of thousands to throw around and not worry about what happens to it, TD is the bank for you. read more

Been with TD Bank for awhile, and this branch is my favorite. The tellers here are always friendly and recognized me only after just a couple visits. Free coin counting and better than normal bank hours makes TD bank my bank of choice. I'm not one to run into overdraft troubles so I'm not sure how the costumer service is when things go awry. I'm guessing as bad as any other bank. No one is worse than Bank of America; so unless TD bank screws up in a major way, I will continue to bank here. read more

I have never had an issue with anyone from the bank, but at this location the emloyees are particularly helpful and friendly. I hate dealing with money and finances, but they always make the experience tolerable, if not enjoyable. The bank itself is a big bank, but I really have no problem with it. They offer free student checking which is helpful, free online banking which is great. Their 24/7 over the phone banking has gotten me out of a few tight spots over the past few months, and the operators are super nice and helpful. read more

Avoid the Harvard Square branch - it is staffed by complete idiots! The staff who served me messed up almost everything I asked them to do. Just the highlights: - When creating my first account, the clerk had to reenter my name and address three times because apparently she can't spell at all. - When I was being added to 5 joint accounts by my husband, the process took forever, and they asked me to come back for the new debit cards in a few days. When I returned for the cards, one of them was not ready, and they said they will send it in the mail. Naturally, I never received it. - When I later tried to use the other 4 cards, they didn't work. I inquired about this at another branch, and they told me that these cards were closed/deactivated. - Generally, they seemed clueless about how their system works, and kept saying "I don't know, this is just the way it works" in response to my questions. Checks won't mail out . This issue has started out of the blue since 10/31/17 and i have spent way too long on hold.

I have been dealing with the most inconvenient problem for a month now. A blocked charge while abroad and a phone call to the call centre where i was reassured the account would be active within a couple hours. Turns out, the associate killed my card, made my account inactive on the phone so i could not speak with someone about my account even though i have the voice print active on my account (why even bother with this tech?) and could answer questions about my account. I was told 3 times the account and card could only be activated in person at a branch. I work on cruise ships so the only time i can go is within hours when in Boston every 2 weeks. I went 2 weeks ago to fund out your whole system was down, regardless of the branch and they could not fix the problem that day. I just returned on the 16th of June and finally got a new card, provided proper identification and thought i had unblocked my account. I called back today to the call center and wanted to follow up on how my account was locked out in the first place, and it turns out my mobile phone profile is still locked and i have to go back to a branch and have someone call the call center and only then my phone profile will be unlocked. This is ridiculous and extremely inconvenient. On top of that, a wire transfer that was blocked due to the Dodd Frank rule but i was only told 2 weeks later after i specifically asked why it had not gone through is also really challenging for me and makes me want to close my account. I want someone from management to explain to me why i should not close my account and share my frustrating situation on FB, Google and other review sites. I am also a Canadian TD account holder and i will say it is far more convenient to deal with them, i still don't know why i still bother with your bank. I've been a TD customer since I've been born so I was happy to give them my business when I moved to Cambridge from Toronto. The first thing I did when I landed was get a checking account. Coco set me up perfectly and even gave me a crash course on living in Cambridge. She was an absolute pleasure to deal with and made me feel welcome in the USA :) With zero credit I tried to get an auto loan through TD but was disappointed on that front. Well at least these people haven't started charging the outrageous check cashing fees like BofA or Citizen's, and yes they are friendly. I have nothing against friendliness, but would prefer it be spontaneous, genuine, and personally motivated...I feel like the tellers have a kind of script and are trained to be (almost) excessively nice and talkative (I've noticed this specifically at multiple TD Bank locations where I've been asked the same questions). Again, nothing wrong with this in itself, but it creeps me out to know that this contrived attitude is the end result of a corporate board trying to psychologically manipulate me into feeling all warm and fuzzy about their organization to more efficiently extract money from me. I made a deposited in this location and later I found out there was Some issue which I wasn't aware of. To beginning with, the teller took my check and deposited as usual. He didn't ask me any questions or flag out my check. So, I thought everything was fine. Next day when I tried to use my ATM card, funds was not available. I freak out. My husband called customer services on my behalf, we found out the issue and We told the customer services to return the check to the issuer. That was never done. Next day, We went to Florida branch, and found out this: TD bank already took the money but NOT in my account nor check was return back to the issuer. Instead, it was some where in their internal bank system. What on earth they keep my money for? They have NO right to keep customer's monies. You either rejected it or called the customer. Not just revised the amount in their account and let's the customer guess. The branch supervisor in Florida also found out that TD bank can issue a cashier check back to the original check issuers, but it has to from the bank I deposited it, which is Cambridge branch. He called them and the Cambridge branch store manager asking him irrelevant questions. Including whom you speak to, when etc. My husband and I specific told him that branch will never you call back as we know how Bostonian work ethic are. We waited for hours and we called the Florida branch 3 times, finally he called back and told us that the Boston branch is working on it. It was at 4:30pm, the FL Bank is ready to close. When it was 5:30pm we decided to call the Boston branch ourselves to get an update. First person who answer us already gave us an attitude. He passed us through to Steve, the store supervisor. He couldn't handle our complaint! he argued and said " it wasn't my fault, you shouldn't take it out on me." Then he hung up Before we can even finished. We called back again, another person answered, at this point we were angry, (normal human being would be like us when you know multi-digit monies gone from your account in front of your eyes) Before we finished, he hung up on us. We were speechless and lost. Finally the store manager Kristin called us back and happily told us we have to wait for 7 days to get that check cleared. Then they can issued a cashier back to the issuer. When we tried to explained to her our unpleasant experiences with her staffs, and want to explained that we depend on our monies to live, before we go further, she dare told my husband he has no right to speak to her nor her employees because he is not the account holder. Once again We were speechless. Instead of calm us down, she argued and believed she solved the issue. No, she did not. She continue to provoked us and we reach our patience limit. What kind of services TD tried to offer? Ignorant and unprofessionalism. That's right, especially this branch. I was with him on the speaker phone and she knew it. We hung up on her because we couldn't tolerate their unprofessionalism and attitude anymore. It is our monies and TD bank has no right to put on hold for that long. The issuer tried to void that check on his end but it was too late. The issue I have with is TD branch, bank tellers are not train and absolutely not professional. They think they own the bank and not understand customer needs. Their best practice is argued and hung up the phone. Customers always wrong, idiot and know nothing. Because of their unprofessional and tellers lack of knowledge of bank policy, my husband and I end up on the street, we borrow monies left and right to pass through the day by day. Money not safe with TD Bank! This review is not directed at a specific branch of TD Bank, but of the company as a whole. I have been a customer of this bank for several years and have four accounts with them. This week, my husband noticed two debits from one of our accounts that we did not know anything about. To make a long story short, a debt collection agency issued a Levy against someone with my same name but a different address and social security number. The bank debited funds from my account WITHOUT verifying that the information matched my information. When I called the Levy department, they were rude, could not produce the documentation that I requested and would not verify the information for me. When I told this to the the debt collection agency that issued the Levy, they had their lawyers call them! If the debt collection agency had not helped me, I am not sure that I would have even gotten this resolved in the same day. I will be changing banks!! read more

This is just one of several TD Bank branches in and I around Boston-Belmont-Cambridge where I do my banking and I have never had a single regret with any of their associates. They are by far the friendliest and most cooperate Bank I have ever dealt with in all of my banking history and I make sure that I tell them what a great bank to deal with. I started my personal account with the TD Bank in Concord, NH in 2011 and in the 5 years since then I have always been greeted with a smile and immediate (That very day) 1st rate service! TD Bank and their associates are by far the standard which all banks need to try to obtain. Most of my business with them is now here in Massachusetts, but back in June when I was on vacation in Stowe, VT their branch there treated me like an old friend.
