Sliced brisket and smoked bologna with a side of potato salad.

Nice small town BBQ joint. Old building but nice and clean. Retro ambiance. As for the BBQ, top notch. I had sliced brisket and smoked bologna. The brisket was just as I like it, floppy and tender. The flavor did not require BBQ sauce to make it taste good. My criteria for good brisket, tender and tastes good naked. But I did try the mild sauce and the hot sauce. The mild had a very flavorful Heinz 57 vibe. The hot was easy on the palette with a sweet heat. I also had the mustard based potato salad, just like Momma used to make! I don't drive this road very often, but if I do, I will definitely stop in again. Highly recommend.

One of the joys of traveling around Texas is finding places like this. We'd spent the previous night in Lubbock and our bartender at the restaurant told us about TC's Ponderosa. He'd grown up in the Dickens area so it was a local favorite of his. We veered a little out of our way to stop here for lunch and were so happy we did. As others have mentioned--you'd drive right past it if you didn't look closely. Looks like an almost-abandoned gas station. Inside, it was packed with people, including a local rancher buying lunch for the cowhands working her ranch. That's a big endorsement in my book. As mentioned in a couple of reviews, this isn't the place to be in a hurry. Orders were written down by hand and the money was collected by a sweet, friendly woman who grew up when the world wasn't so uptight and fast. Bless her heart for sticking to her pace. You can get stressed out it or you can settle in and enjoy the moment. We enjoyed every bit of it. The food was the final payoff. Damn good BBQ. Everything we had was good. Pretty good chance I'll be on the motorcycle again in west Texas and an even better chance the day will be planned to be in Dickens when I'm hungry!

My coworker and I were driving back to Lubbock and he mentioned that there was supposed to be a good barbecue place in Dickens. We found it and decided to stop. Because it was so late they were out of some stuff that I would have preferred, so I had to made do. I ordered the smoked turkey and the German sausage. For my sides I got cowboy coleslaw and their baked beans. My coworker ordered their brisket chopped and sliced and for his sides he ordered mustard potato salad and baked beans as well. I am not one for brisket because in all the times I've tried it, it is usually dry and chewy. He let me try his brisket since he was bragging about how juicy it was. I found it hard to believe LOL but when I tried it he was correct it was a very good and very juicy! My turkey and German sausage were both the same. Everything was very good!! My biggest disappointment was that they only had ribs on Friday and Saturdays SO... I guess I will have to come back on Friday STAY TUNED

Good but like all BBQ it's expensive. My sandwich was really good but I'd get a different side next time. The potato salad was awful.

What goes on in Olton, Texas? A simple drive through tells you not much. However, this small town…read moreboasts a Texas Monthly Top 50 barbecue spot, so if you are like me and trying to get stamps on the passport, you inevitably have to make the drive. Funnily enough, it is both the northernmost and westernmost spot on the list, so everywhere after this is quite literally downhill from here. We drove in on a Friday and arrived just before 1:30 pm, which is a sin at most barbecue joints. Rejino, however, only had a small line and still a full menu while being pretty busy. They were excited to add a stamp to my book and even gave me a free Rejino sticker to take with me. I love places that go the extra step. One thing I want to note right away is how affordable their barbecue is compared to most places. The Texas Trinity fed both my girlfriend and me and came in around forty dollars, with half pounds of ribs and brisket, a sausage link, and a side. My girlfriend and I ordered their Texas Trinity, two sides, and a dessert. I will share my thoughts on everything below. Brisket: It was well done. There was good flavor throughout and the slices were nicely cut. The balance between the lean and fatty parts was exactly what you would expect and on par with others on the list. Pork Ribs: My girlfriend loves a pork rib and she really enjoyed these. In terms of tenderness and candying, they landed right in the middle. The meat did not fall off the bone, but it was still excellent. The bark was well seasoned. Jalapeño Cheese Sausage: Compared to most joints, their sausages were shorter but thicker. The jalapeños actually had a crunch, which was surprising. I really enjoyed this sausage. Baked Potato Casserole: I thought this was a great side and a solid portion for five dollars. Bacon White Cheddar Mac and Cheese: My girlfriend said this was her favorite style of mac and cheese, extremely creamy. I thought it was good, but I let her eat most of it since she liked it so much. Broccoli Cheddar Cornbread: Unlike most barbecue joints, the cornbread here was free. I really liked the hints of cheese and the broccoli pieces mixed throughout. M&Ms Brownie: I sometimes get dessert at a barbecue joint. When I am with my girlfriend, that percentage jumps to always. Here we ordered a massive M&Ms fudge brownie. The M&Ms were intentionally stale, so instead of being crunchy they were chewy on top of the brownie. It reminded me of a Cosmic Brownie. In Texas, there are smoke cathedrals everywhere for those willing to look, and places like Rejino make stops in small towns completely worth it. RIYL: top notch barbecue that also happens to be pretty affordable
