The food was very good. I had the one meat plate with brisket and Mac and cheese and fries. That was all good. However I feel cheated on the price. It said a one meat plate was 16 dollars. However when I looked at the receipt it said 27 dollars and said a 8 dollar add on for brisket. If brisket is an option it should be specified it is extra. Staff was nice however and it was in a nice warehouse sort of building with cool decorations. Overall I would recommend this to a friend but tell them to be mindful of what they buy. The brisket was good for a lesser known place. I really enjoyed the environment. The thing I was disappointed in was that I had to buy a half rack of ribs $18 in order to try them. This is the only place I have seen that did not serve it by the pound. A half pound should've been 2 ribs. This is what I discovered from the taste tests: Jalapeño Sausage is good and not that spicy Smoked Cajun turkey is delicious and very tender The Brisket & Rib meats were ULTRA tender and had an amazing flavor. I had to stop there and ask how I can combine the 2. He recommended a Brisket sandwich with a side of ribs. Best BBQ Combo I've EVER had!! It's like sex for your mouth and I'm not exaggerating. Remember to add their BBQ sauce Honey BBQ sauce is good (located next to sides) But their "Regular sauce" found on each table is VERY flavorful. Stopped at this BBQ place on my way from Dallas to New Mexico. The original route I chose didn't include Roscoe but since I'm not in a hurry to get to my final destination, I allowed my instincts to guide me. Before I knew it, I exited on to Main Street and headed into the heart of this tiny town. I pulled over and looked up restaurants for lunch - there aren't many! Blackland BBQ had great reviews so I figured it was a good bet! Well let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed!! I ordered the brisket sandwich with baked potato salad. I was given a generous portion of juicy brisket on a fresh bun and I served myself the baked potato salad. You have your choice between the honey BBQ sauce and the traditional BBQ sauce. I had a little of both and both were delicious! The traditional was sweet and tangy. The honey was thicker and actually had a smoky flavor to it. The brisket itself was tender and juicy with a drool-worthy smoke flavor. I think I may have even drooled WHILE eating this sandwich!! I've lived in Dallas and Austin - both cities are known for their amazing BBQ. But I must admit that Blackland Smokehouse "smoked" the competition! Great small town BBQ! If you ever find yourself in Roscoe, make a point to stop here. The locals love this place and we're proud to take us. I'd say it rivals Lockhart and Austin BBQ. I tried the T-bird sandwich and added jalapeños to it. The combination of Cajun smoked turkey (heavy on the meat) with the sweet coleslaw a day jalapeños was perfect. My friend got the flying pig: pulled pork, BBQ sauce, sweet coleslaw on a buttery croissant. She got the macaroni salad on the side. She loved both. Another coworker got the plow plowboy special. A loaded baked potato with brisket. That thing is so huge that there's no way 1 person can eat all of it. Another coworker got the prime rib and he enjoyed it. Unfortunately we didn't like anything about the food here. The best feature was the old tin ceiling. The brisket was too salty & the pork ribs had no flavor. The green beans were very good. The baked potato salad was so so. Putting barbecue sauce on didn't help. We didn't like either of the options. I'm so glad that I live near The Pit Room in Houston. That is real deal bbq. No sauce required. Every smoky bite is heaven. Even the pickles at The Pit Room are amazing. We've always been in Roscoe when Blackland was closed. We weren't missing anything. read more

BBQ cooked in an electric smoker is alright, but not real Texas BBQ. My complaint is the brisket was too salty. I order a chopped brisket sandwich for $8.99. My bill had $10.99 so I asked why and was told a bun was an upcharge of $2.00 I had to laugh just post the price at $10.99. I notice many people with a container with just chopped BBQ. They went to the counter and got slices of bread. Ok, that is an option, but nasty. Everyone reaches in a loaf of bread. I do not know if these people washed their hands? Charging 50 cents for a cup of water is also fine with me. Cute out-of-the-way place, but not worth the return trip for sure. read more

We decided to give Blackland a try, and what a great decision we made! Hubby had a 2 Meat Sandwich consisting of Brisket and Pulled Pork on a bun. Hubby forewent the sides--beans or coleslaw or potato salad, because of the generous servings of meat. Both meats were smoked, tender, and delicious! I had the Flying Pig but chose to not eat it West Virginia style, keeping my cole slaw as a side and not a sandwich condiment. The pulled pork is served on a croissant, not a bun, and was tender and delicious sans sauce! Cole slaw was excellent with a sweet taste and not vinegar-based. After finding everything in Sweetwater closed at 2, we rolled through Roscoe and stumbled on this place. They were closing in 20 minutes and nobody was at the counter. After a couple minutes a young kid comes out, he's the cutter. This usually doesn't bode well. We order a half lb of sausage and brisket and a little bit of turkey. My wife was worried that it wasn't enough. I was worried it wouldn't be good so before ordering more I snuck a bite of brisket and quickly ordered another half pound. They piled on the sides since they were about to close. The coleslaw was a little too sweet. I'm not a fan of macaroni salad but it was very good with crisp bits of veggies. The mustard potato salad edges out the baked potato salad with a nice sharp tart finish. The sausage was very good thought they made it in house but they get it from Flatonia. Halfway between loose and firm lots of flavor and a little heat. The brisket is destination Q. Nice bark and great flavor throughout the beef. Very moist, perfectly trimmed. Not a deep smoke ring but maybe a little pecan? We mowed through a pound and even the non beef eater wanted more. They've been here two years and I see why. read more

Small town charm, GREAT food, welcoming family atmosphere...driven past here for months when I'm in town and only bummed that it took me so long to try it out.
