Driving cross Texas we happily happened upon Smokin' Dick's, a small, clean and friendly barbecue joint cleverly decorated with old Formica topped kitchen tables, light fixtures made from old coffee pots, and a hand-painted cactus floor. The woman at the counter recommended a brisket filled baked potato and rib sandwich (with the bones carefully removed). Both were delicious and generous. Sauce tends towards the sweet; meat was tender and savory. Owners and staff made you feel like family guests. A true gem. read more

What turned out to be a random stop for us waiting out a storm turned out to be a great sit down dinner! Had the "Dick A Roni" with brisket and was awesome, the brisket was super tender and had a perfect sweet smokey flavor with a little hint of heat, the cheese Mac sitting under the brisket was awesome too! My daughter from Georgia and I from California decided to go to Smokin Dicks-right in the middle of the country, before heading out on an RV'ing journey. We happened to stop on a day Smokin Dicks was closed as they were redoing their floors. Of course we were bummed but understood, they are a family run business and the "workers" made it evident just how beautiful this family business is. My daughter asked to buy a T-shirt so we were invited in despite the " mess" to which they profusely apologized however, all we saw was the beautiful family all working on the floors to include Dicks wife Shelley their daughter and grandkids. I was so impressed by the entire family they were all the absolute nicest people, talked about family, their latest project -to include the children's mural on the floor and how Dick got into the business. After keeping them from their work for probably way too long, I felt like they were my family!!! I am not sure I have ever met nicer people. We were lucky enough to receive some Brisket from them to which- I absolutely didn't pay enough for! It was the best Brisket I have ever eaten and I grew up on a cattle farm!! ( Sorry Mom). I cannot say enough positive things about my experience even though they were closed which of course happens when you own a small family business. I promised I would come back one day and enjoy a meal there and I can't wait, the brisket was truly life changing!! Thank you so much to this beautiful family. This is one of those places that you just happen to find, and be so happy that you did. This is a family owned place and you don't see to many like this anymore. A nice, friendly greeting when I walked in the door and the menu was so tempting it was hard to decide what I wanted. Settled on the Brisket plate with two sides (cole slaw and potato salad) all homemade. The brisket doused with some barbecue sauce, was some of the best I've ever had, and was so tender, it nearly melted in my mouth. The sides were very tasty and I topped off the meal with some banana pudding. Three other people were doing take-out as I did and told me how great a place this is. I agree. Skip the McDonald's, Pizza Hut and Sonic that's in town, and have some real food. You won't be sorry. read more
