The old Fun 'N Run, now TC Running is a great, locally-owned spot to buy a good pair of quality sneakers (name change because the old owners retired and sold to another local shoe shop, and now they have more locations around the metro!) If you're not a runner, that doesn't mean this store isn't for you. But if you are, I think you'll find all that you need here! (Including those gross sucrose gel packets) For me, I'm on my feet all day for work as a scientist, and I've bought the past 4 pairs of shoes here, and I've had no complaints! The staff are very knowledgeable, so let them know your concerns (plantar fasciitis? More/less cushion? Over-pronated/supinated?) When it comes to the value, you get what you pay for. They're able to charge under market value, but they can still be expensive. With this in mind, they do have a generous sales room where shoes can be ~$20-40 off (I haven't been there often enough to know how the sales change, so I might be off). All in all, I highly recommend this place for your next sneaker purchase, athlete or not. read more

This place rocks! My physical therapist wrote me a prescription for shoes after my hip surgery and indicated that I should stop by this shop. I'm not sure that I'm buying shoes anywhere else. Their prices are fair and their service is awesome. The owner is kind and community focused and their shoes supply seems endless. Now all of us (both the partner and kids) are getting our shoes here. Just writing about it makes me want to return...and look through the garage full of shoes that are on sale due to the pandemic. Their workaround of having shoe trying on areas out back makes so much sense. And their low pressure sales approach allowed us to process our decisions. The attention they paid to making sure I got the right shoe for my feet and how I run was genuine and appreciated. My feet felt so much better running in shoes more made for them. I was apprehensive at first because she didn't seem too interested in selling me shoes. Really, she was just laid back and letting me take my time. Very nice. I bought running shoes @Run'n'Fun in St. Paul 7/19 - had called to make sure what I wanted was in stock & the salesperson I spoke with promised they would be held through sunday. However when I got there sunday afternoon the shoes weren't there at the counter so they had to be dug out of storage (fortunately they did have the right size). Also - price I paid for these shoes, Nike Pegasus, was $30 higher than I saw posted elsewhere. Picked up a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus shoes to break in before I run the Twin Cities Marathon next month (store associate who worked with me was super nice and helped me find just the right amount of cushion I wanted). While I was there, I also scored a cute Asics sports bra and Brooks tank from the discount room (why yes, I'd like 30% off) and full-price Nike shorts. Check it out! They have a great selection of shoes and clothes. I try to buy from them any time I can because they support runners with clubs and workshops and a place to meet for group runs. However, the staff isn't always very helpful when fitting shoes. They brought out all kinds and were pretty cool about my pickiness, but let me buy shoes that were really wrong. When I got home, I took the shoes on a couple of long runs. They were a horrible fit. I can't wear them. Unfortunately for me, I live in California and bought the shoes here when visiting family to support this place I had known from when I lived in MN, so there's really no way to return them. Bad experiences at other running stores and a recommendation from a more serious runner sent me here. Last time I went in, I got a pair of shoes and was out the door in, literally, 5 minutes. What works: a) no waiting for help. no matter how busy they are, there's always someone ready to answer questions b) no sales pushing. I went in there with my old pair of shoes and the salesperson asked if I had been happy with them. I said yes and she suggested I get the same pair. Done and done. c)excellent selection. There's something for everyone. d) the treadmill. Such a good idea. What's missing: A crappy sales rack of tiny tiny shorts or hot pink skimpy running bras to laugh at. Factoring in sales efficiency and time NOT spent nursing shin splints due to crappy shoes, this place is a bargain. read more

This is far and away the best running apparel and shoe store in the twin cities. The shoe selection here is superbly well edited and the staff really know their stuff. They always have a lot of people working and they will take their time with you. I think everyone who works here is actually a runner so that makes a difference. They've worn these shoes. Running shoes are an investment and getting the wrong ones can be a disaster for your wallet as well as your body. They have a treadmill in the store so you can try out any shoes you want before you commit to purchase, which is a huge advantage. Comparing this store to Running room, their nearest competition, I'd say it's no contest. The service is way better and they have generous sales as well as price breaks for team athletes. Finally their apparel selection is extremely good. They have a lot of every major brand and some really good selections from minor brands as well. My only complaint is that the store is a tad crowded, especially the women's apparel. The changing rooms are pretty dismal, the air-conditioning is half hearted and overall the atmosphere in this part of the store is a bit clausterphobic. But I'm still giving them five stars because they are a neighborhood joint. It's not like shopping at foot locker or even Running Room which are very sleek and corporate. read more

I fondly remember making two trips to St. Paul every year with my dad: one in the fall to buy my cross country gear and one in the spring to buy my track gear. Over the past 15 years, not much about the store has changed other than some of the layout in the shoe area. The staff members are hands down some of the most knowledgable runners I've ever met. They're very attentive, they ask great questions, and they really know the products. For years I'd struggled with finding shoes within my go-to brand that had good arch support, and then two years ago, a guy from Run N Fun made a recommendation for a different brand and I've never been more comfortable in my running shoes! After beginning a walking program, it was painfully clear that my shoes were not cutting the mustard (bleeding blisters anyone?). Fortunately, I was directed to the pros at Run N Fun. I arrived at the store on a Saturday afternoon. The place was jammed but there were LOTS of sales people available. I was helped by a friendly young woman who patiently and without any judgment or attitude whatsoever helped my find the shoes for me. She observed my stride and made some initial suggestions, then as I tried shoes on, continued to refine her suggestions until I found the perfect pair of shoes. Mind you, I was getting this personal attention while the store was absolutely crawling with other customers. Amazing! No pressure, no attitude, just an enthusiastic helpful salesperson trying to help me find JUST what I needed. In addition to shoes, the store offers a very wide selection of clothing and accessories. I can also say from experience that returns are easy. I bought a pair of shorts in the wrong size. When I brought them back a few days later, a (different) salesperson helped me find the right size and I was on my way--no hassle. I'm not a runner or a "jock" type. Run N Fun is the place to go for all of your tennis shoe and running needs. The staff is VERY knowledgeable and helpful. I recommend wearing your current running shoes when you go to the store. They're able to look at the tread of your shoes as well as the wear and tear to help determine the best shoe for you. There's even a treadmill in the shop to test your potential new sneakers out. They always offer the discounted price instead of the retail price on all their shoes. They also offer more of a discount for running clubs or high school/college athletes. There's plenty of men's/women's apparel, watches, socks, water bottles, and all the running accessories you can think of available for sale. I highly recommend going on a weekday/night. I think that this is probably the best running store in the Twin Cities. I have been to Marathon Sport, most of the Running Rooms, Gear Fitness, and most of the chain shoe stores and I think the Run N Fun is the best by far. I have purchased my last 4 pairs of shoes here and a bunch of apparel and running gear. They probably have the biggest section of shoe and clothing. The Staff are great, and are all pretty knowledgeable. And if they don't know something they will tell you or ask someone that does know. The best part about Run N Fun is that they do a good job at helping to identify the shoe that you need and make suggestions as to what you should get. If they don't have it they won't try and push you into something just because they have it on the shelf. I have run over 15 marathons and do several ultra marathons a year, so I go through a lot of shoes and this place is a great place to get them. The customer service here is outstanding! I have been on the hunt for a pair of Oiselle Portman Shorts for months since they're sold out on the Oiselle website in my size. Someone in my running group posted that she found a bunch of the shorts at her local running store, which is Run N Fun, and that they also ship! So, I jumped on this. I called, asked if they had the shorts in my size, and luckily they did! The woman on the phone was so kind and helpful. She took my payment info, address and sent the shorts my way! They were so nice about everything even though it's a strange ask to have a boutique running store ship a pair of shorts across the country! They arrived, they're great, and they were even cheaper than they are on the Oiselle website. If I ever find myself in Saint Paul, I'm definitely going to make a stop in Run N Fun! I walked in and was completely ignored by everyone. I picked up 11 shoes to try on from the "garage" and still no one approached me. I had every intention of buying shoes that day since my last 3 pair had some from this store. I HAD to ask questions to people to help me and they were bothered. A dog walked in a when I asked someone about the size, his response was "sorry, we just really love dogs." I got no service while I was there. There were several employees watching the TV so much that an employee had to move twice so I could see in the mirror because he was watching the TV in front of it. Another employee was eating. Upon leaving I left a message for someone to call me back. The next day the manager called me and I was treated with more disrespect from the day before. She called and in a rude voice said "I was supposed to call you" and supposedly didn't get my message. She said people who shop in the garage are assumed to find their own shoes. Yes, I certainly can find my size but have no clue about the shoes or their fit--I still need help. She was talking, yelling over me. I finally told her how rude she was treating me and she said she would be willing to help me find shoes. REALLY??? Have HER help me find shoes? After she was so condescending? Great place to pick up anything you could possibly need for running-based activities. Excellent, knowledgeable staff will help you find just the right gear. They also partner with equipment companies and local race organizers for informal training runs and other events that build the running community in the twin cities. If you're interested in starting running for the first time or are a seasoned, multi-marathoner, you'll be equally well-served here. Location feels cramped, because it is. The building is in a residential neighborhood and uses up as much space as it can, but there's definitely a difference from the big-box retailers (which is both good--better service, and bad--no room to spread out). I was referred to Run N Fun by my physical therapist about a year and a half ago to find me the right shoes after having a running analysis. I went straight there and let them know what type of shoe was recommended by my therapist. They provided me with at least 8 different options and let me run in them either on the tread mill or outside. I was impressed with their selection and I even got a discount for the referral. Very nice incentive to shop locally and get great attention. I felt a little uncomfortable running on their treadmill as it's in a weird spot against the wall. Their store is not super spacious and a tad crammed with product and I felt a tad judged/watched. I am not a novice runner, but defiantly not a marathoner either.....nor do I look like the seemingly "intense runner" shoppers and employees around me as I took my Athena runner self through the store. I found some of the staff to be super down to earth and helpful, while the other dark eyeliner grouchy faced petite hungry looking older women to be very off-putting and judgmental as I felt their eyes sizing me up. I feel they could use a lesson in customer service and sensitivity training as my "Athena Runner Self" has a pocketbook willing to spend money, that could easily be spent online or in another store. I have purchased 3 pairs total here in the past 18 months and every time been in and out in 10min or less (now that i know what pair of shoes are best for me). I have been referring people to this store for a few years,but I won't be any longer. I had a great experience my first time being there. Not overly attentive, but knowledgeable. Since then, I have been greeted and then ignored. The last shoe purchase (not clothing), I don't think the sales associate even listened to me while I explained my knee issues. I won't go back. I went in for new running shoes. The person helping me acted like I was a burden and then mansplained to me the whole time I was there. Their website touts "in depth gait analysis" and when I asked for that, the employee begrudgingly watched me walk and then brought me some shoes to try on. I walked around in some of them and found a pair that felt ok. Then when I told him the brand & style that's worked for me in the past and asked if they had those, he said they did but he would have to walk all the way to the basement to check for my size. I ended up buying a $130 pair he had recommended. After a couple training runs and a 5K, I realized they're totally not right for me feet. I called to ask if I could exchange them for a different pair and they said it's against their policy because I've already broken them in. Any good running shop would offer an exchange and help runners find the right pair of shoes. Love that it's locally owned, but I'll go to Saint City running next time. read more

As a beginner I have been going from store to store and asking for help to figure out what the best type of shoes would be for me. After very little luck elsewhere, I made the trip to Run N Fun. I was immediately assisted by staff and they brought out 5 or 6 different types of shoes that would be ideal for me. I was able to try each pair on and test it out on the treadmill they have in the store. Many people also try on the shoes and run outside in front of the store to get a feel for the shoes.
