[Update 07/24]: Since I can't reply to a comment on my review, I will update this one. What costs that are incurred by TC Hafford are not my problem. A lift was never discussed nor included on the contract. So again, not my issue. The items paid for will be sold to another customer anyways I'm sure, so you are only out the lift cost. Which was less than $500 for the day. You did mobilize. However, your mobilization team did not want to proceed with the signed planned because it was not a good idea, per them. You're the experts, not me. Which I assume they did because it was a bad idea and wanted to make sure they did a good job by the customer. Which they did. I have no issues with the guys that came out here. They were honest with me and I appreciated that and told them as much in person. I also want to add that Brian the sales guy tried to do right by me, but here we are. Your CS Manager told me she wouldn't refund me unless I deleted this review, which is against the law. In terms of refund, we just received it today 7/27 and it's pending clear. Glad we got it back but it should not take so much to get a legally owed refund back. We had full intention to go with them for gutters after cancellation. We told the sales guy this. We will never do business with them now, however. ----- [Original review below] Signed a contract with this company. Proceeded to sign a second one as additional work was requested. They came on install day and the installer indicated the install was a bad idea as agreed. Why would I proceed if the installer says it's not a good idea? Canceled with in Maines 3 day law. They will not honor the second signed contract date but the original just so they can keep the deposit. Scummy scummy company. Stay far away from them for ANY work. Gutters, basement systems. Overall not really impressed. Too bad I didn't read the other reviews in advance! One problem is they control a niche market, and hard to find someone who doesn't use the parent franchise. 2 other places use the same sales info books on basements. When I said the original quote was too expensive, the 'engineers' reanalyzed and came up with a totally different plan to better fit my budget. They left the place with my canoe out in the rain and didn't put back the rest of the stuff they took out of the basement. It took them 3 days longer and I had to harass them to finish. The guys working were good mind you. It's the corporate organization which sucks. Once they used up the initial 3 days they had scheduled for the job, It was off to the next job and I was left waiting for them to return a number of days later. I have a barn with a block foundation. Two of the 4 walls were bowing inward. One was sagging in up to 3" with visible separation of the blocks, the other had stair step cracks and was starting to sag. It was hard finding a contractor who would take this job. I called TC Hafford to get a quote. They gave me a date for the rep to come and sent an information packet in the mail ahead of time. He gave me a rough quote, was pricey, but I needed it fixed before catastrophic failure. Signed the contract electronically and sent them a 30% deposit. They put on their schedule (about 6 weeks out). They called 3 days ahead of the start to verify they would be out on Monday. They arrived on time, put up a stable lock wall on the worst of the 2 walls (I beams, rebar and poured concrete, the wall is now like a bunker and secure (took 3 1/2 days) the second wall was laying a concrete footer along the wall and putting up I beams with tightening bolts to secure the wall. On this operation the foreman was not present and the workers assembled them wrong. I called them back and emailed pictures of the issues. They set up a follow up to come back out and corrected the issue. So in the end I am very satisfied with the outcome and their response to a problem. I would highly recommend them. read more

This review is for the TC Hafford business from Wells, Maine. I gave 2 stars only because eventually the work was done to my satisfaction, but the hassle, stress, long delays, and over charging practice - makes two stars extremely generous. The quoting process went OK and I paid the deposit for the $12,000 job that would start 6 months later. After 3 to 4 months, I called TC Hafford to get the start date but learned that my project was never scheduled. This would be the first delay of several months. When the work started, the installation crew said that the Salesperson drawing and basement measurements were not correct and refused to finish the encapsulation. The crew did not have a tape measure but said that the basement area was bigger than the quote. After a few weeks, the crew installation supervisor came to look, but he did not have a tape measure either. A few more weeks went by, then the sales person & supervisor came back with a tape measure and confirmed that the original measurement was correct. After another delay of ~6 weeks, the installation crew came back and finished the job. The bid called out a $500 charge for 'debris removal' but TC Hafford seems to have a different definition for 'removal'. The crew just moved items from the deep, dark areas of the basement and left the debris in the area of the basement that I use. For the debris that they did take out of the basement, the crew left the debris on my neighbor's property. My neighbor complained and TC Hafford never came back to clean up, so I had to. After the job was complete. I was overcharged on several items. The original bid had a call out for a temp pump charge for ~$800 in case the basement was flooded. it was not flooded yet this charged remained on my bill. During the work, I decided against a 2nd sump pump, but the original $1200 charge remained on my bill. I also got charged another $450 for drain pipes that were not needed and not installed. To get the bill corrected took several weeks. The internal TC Hafford billing/sales team had to review the bill vs. the work actually done. Of course, during this time, multiple reminders to pay the original bill were mail, emailed, phone calls etc., with the threat of turning my original bill over to collections. Oh and the $500 debris removal charge. TC Hafford said I had to pay, but never came back to remove the debris from my property. (my definition of removal.) Bottom line. Find another company, you will be much happier and have much less stress in your life! read more

I had TC Hafford Basement Systems perform work in my crawlspace at the end of September 2018. I financed this work, over $10,000, and signed the bank paperwork within 2 days of the completion of the work. I was really impressed with the actual work and thought everything turned out great. Eight days after the completion of the work I realized the SaniDry Sedona was not working. I called TC Hafford Basement Systems and had it verified that the SaniDry Sedona unit would have to be replaced. At that time I was told that I would have to wait for them to schedule the replacement and that they would call me back with a date and time. Two weeks go by and I hadn't been contacted back for a date and time. I called TC Hafford Basement Systems back and was told that they were aware of the problem and were still looking to fit the replacement in to scheduling. Another two weeks go by and I have still yet to hear anything from TC Hafford Basement Systems so I call back again. By the end of this call I was told that the replacement could be done on Monday, November 19. It seemed as if the appointment was made in haste while TC Hafford Basement Systems had me on hold. I wasn't happy that it took me around a month to get an appointment date that was going to still be two weeks out from when the appointment was made. On Friday, November 16, TC Hafford Basement Systems called me (first time during this whole process for their defective unit) to inform me that they would have to cancel the replacement appointment that was scheduled for Monday, November 19. Their reasoning was that the cancellation was due to being out of stock on the SaniDry Sedona units. At this point they've known for close to a month and a half that I needed a replacement unit and they couldn't set one aside for me? I agree with capitalism and understand a busines has to make money and thrive, but this seems like extremely poor business practices to me. As of today, Monday, December 3, it has been over two weeks since I was called and informed of their need to cancel the replacement appointment. I still have not heard from them in regards to a new date and time for the replacement. I just want the replacement taken care of, nothing more. I'm giving one star because I really thought the initial work was quite outstanding and I didn't think the price was terrible. I encountered four TC Hafford Basement Systems employees at my home. The first being a representative to take measurements and give me a quote. He arrived on time and was extremely helpful answering all of the questions that I had. The other three employees actually preformed the work. They also arrived on time, worked efficiently, and answered any questions I had. It would be very hard for me to recommend TC Hafford Basement Systems to anyone else. Be prepared to deal with a major hassle, and potentially extremely poor customer service if something goes wrong. I think they're more worried about future, or upcoming, jobs to secure a pretty substantial sale than they are the satisfaction of their customers that have already paid for their services. TC Hafford did an awesome job getting our basement to be dry again. They came in with half the price quote of 2 other companies, did the job in half a day, and didn't leave a mess at all. Very professional, although communication could have been slightly better. Save yourself the hassle and DO NOT hire this company. From my experience, they are mostly unprofessional workers with minimal skill, their work is of inferior quality, their prices are extremely high, and their owner does not know the first thing about running a business and treating customers equitably. Do not be fooled by their "free" slick marketing book that they will send you; trust me when I say that you "pay" for that marketing. Also, don't be fooled by their "4.8 out of 5 stars" on their website. It is just a manipulation of the data or they do not send questionnaires out to all of their customers (I'm still waiting for mine as I was told they would send one to me but I do not think it will ever arrive). To start, the salesman went through his selling pitch and informed me that I had until the end of that day to receive a "discount" on the total price. So, be prepared for a high pressure sales job and make sure you have quotes already from competitive businesses. In addition, the salesman was not explicit in what needed to be done with my basement to prepare for their workers to come in. When the workers showed up, the "foreman" informed me that my house was not ready and that he could either postpone the work or he could come in and finish the work (he told me) that I should have done (I removed the sheet rock up to three feet off the floor and removed the flooring material) but kept the framing intact as I was not told to remove that. I wish I had postponed but I did give the go ahead for this guy to do the work (for an additional fee, of course). First, this "foreman" did not measure the linear feet that needed to be cut; he estimated and charged me based on this estimate. I went back and measured after they had left for the day and found that the estimate was significantly off in the high direction. So I was overcharged for this work. Secondly, the guy demolished the lower 2-3 feet of framing around my basement. He made a rough cut that did not go all the way through the 2 x 4's and literally ripped that framing out, and ruined much of the sheet rock and framing above what he had cut out. While he was doing this work, he continually swore at a high enough volume that a neighbor heard him who was walking by my house. This worker was lazy, unprofessional, and tried to extort me by overcharging me. Thirdly, this guy had zero skills in laying concrete as he filled the hole around the perimeter of my basement and garage just fine (heck, anybody can fill the hole) but made no discernible effort to feather the concrete out to meet the existing concrete. It was just atrocious work. The WaterGuard product that goes around the perimeter of the basement is just molded plastic that costs way too much. In addition, when they get to a corner, they "eyeball" the angles to try to get it to meet and then use tape to cover up the gaps where the plastic does not meet up. They had to cut two holes in the wall of my garage for the sump pump pipes to go out into my yard and the holes were not even close to being clean and they damaged my garage wall in the process of drilling through my wall. The discharge line was supposed to be buried but it was put just under the the surface of the ground and even after asking to have it put deeper (like 6-8 inches down), it was still way too close to the surface for any grass to grow and you could actually see the pipe in sections of my yard. Their website says that they follow the CDC guidelines for COVID 19 precautions and I can tell you that the original salesman did follow those guidelines but the team that came in to do the work did not. So if you are worried about that, be forewarned. I wrote a letter to the owner of the company and when I talked to him on the phone, it was crystal clear that he had not read my letter carefully or in its entirety. That's just sad and says so much about the leadership of this company. He did send out a man who was very polite and had my letter with him and we went over everything point-by-point. He did fix the holes in my garage wall and tried (unsuccessfully) to bury the discharge pipe in my yard a little deeper. No grass will grow over that pipe so I will have to figure that out. He also did a couple of minor fix-it things. So, I am left with a mess and I am out a lot of money. I was able to get out of the rest of the contract but all of the repair work that I am left with will be done by myself as I cannot afford to hire anyone at this point. The whole thing has been one bad dream. I hope this review gets you to think carefully about this company. Avoid a nightmare and think twice about hiring them. read more

On the plus side I finally found a tool my wife likes; a demolition hammer. Awful experience with this company. We had scheduled the project THREE MONTHS in advance. We had agreed with the salesman that there will not be any machines used to dig the trench because the septic is right along the travel path for the machine. They started the project that required a 60 foot trench to be dug by hand (I gave a very large deposit and was going to pay a whole helluva lot for this work) but only allowed one crewman to do the work. One man to do all of that in a single day?! Yeah, the salesman promised one day to be done. No way could one man do that himself. So, I offered to help the guy do some digging, but of course we couldn't do it in one day. The problem started when the guy called out the next day. So they scheduled me for the following Friday. But wait, THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP!! Mind you, this entire time (almost two weeks now) I had a giant trench in my front yard that was about a foot and a half wide and four feet deep that we had to step over every day. I told them that they need to get this done or I need my money back. I trusted them when they said they'd be there on Tuesday. I believed that they would maybe push back starting somebody else's project so that they could finish mine. But then ... I got an email and a call from somebody in the office telling me that that same guy called out and they have nobody to work on my project. I told them that they have not honored their end of the contract and that they have left me with a very unsafe yard, so I will need to do the work myself and that I expect my money back. They "allowed" me out of the contract but would not refund the deposit of thousands of dollars because they had a crewman at my house for eight hours. Their excuses were that they couldn't do the job with just one man and no machines. However, the contract was that they would not be allowed to use any machinery that is not hand portable. Them telling me that their crewman called out is not good enough when you've already canceled twice. I never got a call from Tony the owner, never got a call from the salesman (I really liked him a lot, actually, and I really don't blame him for this). Nobody took responsibility here. I understand that this was a big job to do by hand; that's why I was paying you thousands of dollars. But you can't start something and take my money but never finish and call yourself a quality company. I had to finish this job myself which is not what I wanted to do. Easy to set up an appointment and the estimate was timely and the rep was knowledgeable, but the price was absurd. Don't waste your time with this place. You'll pay more for their services than your whole basement is even worth. I had a small 400 square foot crawl space newly constructed all open, would have been fast and easy just for the clean space, but I was quoted 1900$ . what a joke. Well, several thousand and my barn is sinking. The sales guy said they could lift my 2-car size building. They came out and tried and said they needed to try a different approach. They didn't tell me when they came back that they were going to stabilize it as is. I told them to leave. Then they said they could lift it but NO GUARANTEE that it would stay level. (Why couldn't they stabilize it after lifting??) they lifted it to ALMOST level...a weak reason for not leveling was given. It was about 4 inches shy of level to match a driveway that I want to replace. Now, one winter. It is right back where it started....after a few grand out of my pocket. read more

The guys did a decent job in my basement which is just above the water table, Installed double sump pump system, poured cement and added vapor barrier heavy plastic in crawl spaces. The problem was that they placed the drain pipe just a few feet away behind a bush next to the road so that it drained right into the street. Within a month, the road starting being washed away. I called them to rectify this part of the job (The job that had cost me over $10k already) and they came and did it properly by digging a trench, burying the drain pipe and having it drain into a natural wetland next to my property (which I own). All good but now they turn around and bill me another $900 for fixing their sloppy drainage work which was included in the original quote. I refused to pay and then they slapped a lien on my property. I had to hire a lawyer to threaten a lawsuit to get it removed. Then a few years later when I called for the annual maintenance that was included in the original quote and which I never received, I was told by the woman who answered the phone that they wouldn't send anybody out because I still owed them $900. In addition, the pumps they used were not of the best quality and had to be replaced just a couple of years later after a failure which resulted in a flooded basement and a fried boiler.
