This resulted in a burst pipe when the nail rusted through and it caused significant water damage to my home. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of paying in cash. Since meeting Terry he has done over most or house both inside and outside. We love working with him because he recommends design changes and gives us references for vendors. Projects he's done for us include renovating our living room, which included installing a spiral staircase, a kitchen remodeling, a new roof and new siding. He also built two new porches and a back deck. It's always great working with Terry because he manages the entire project and keeps the subcontractors on schedule. He cares about his customers and the work he does for us. Cape Elizabeth

It's been over a year and a half now since we completed an extensive from-the-studs-out renovation…read moreof a 1907 building with Papi and Romano, and it just keeps getting better with age :-) We bought a magnificent apartment on the West End of Portland in December 2018 while living in California. To say that we started from the ground up is an understatement. Having chosen to work with Rick Romano and his crew from 3000 miles away, there are no words for the experience that we had and the product that they turned out. Yes, it took longer and cost more than we had anticipated, but as expected there were some nearly insurmountable challenges that came up along the way. The work provided by Rick and his crew; the extraordinary attention to detail in every single way can never be understated. They found ways to reuse every single original door and piece of hardware, while creating an entirely new space where those original doors became pocket doors, the transom windows/lights were reused in every place possible, original 1907 brick was exposed with doors realigned in the intention of John Calvin Stevens, the architect on our beautiful building, and every piece of cabinetry was created to perfection. As a design build firm, Rick and we worked out reconfiguring some of the original space and solved some issues of sound attenuation. For that we requested an outside opinion from our nephew, also an architect, who provided new and creative ideas. Rick was open to suggestions and ideas that were not his own, Chose to learn alternative ways of handling possible issues, and was gracious to a fault. He is a joy to work with (if not always the easiest guy to get a hold of :-) and every one of his subcontractors is top tier. I realize that it's been too long and that we haven't written him the review that he deserved, but it's nice to have lived in this beautiful space for some time now, and to appreciate him more every day. We cannot recommend Papi and Romano highly enough.

The grout was defective or mixed incorrectly. The grout could not be cleaned and started falling out after a few months. I tried working with Chris for weeks and weeks without any success hoping he would review and recommend a fix and take care or the issue. ( likely just redoing the grout) Chris and Quality floors were not professional enough to even stop by to inspect the problem. I strongly recommend using a different company. Jamie from Custom Concrete of Maine was definitely the right person for the job. He replied to my online inquiry and came to the house to check out the project within 24 hrs. He gave me a detailed cost estimate before he even left the house. The next day, he worked a 10+ hr day and completed the project. He communicated clearly with me about the extent of the work; he told me when to expect him at the house; and he gave me project updates along the way. Based on my experience with other concrete contractors in the area, Jamie's rates are very reasonable. In the end I was happy with the repaired floor. He's one of the good ones and I wouldn't hesitate to work with him again!

I have steps from my garage to the basement that they removed and destroyed. They also ruined the step from my house to the basement by cutting the steps instead of putting the concrete around the step. They cut the steps 2" high. They also buried the lines from my oil tank and heater in concrete. I filed a complaint with the BBB and expect to be reimbursed. The communication was incredibly poor throughout the entire process. I did not know my steps would be cut or that my lines from to the oil tank and heater would be buried in concrete. Nothing about the process was communicated to me until I asked a series of process questions. My questions about the process were treated as a burden. It was never communicated to me that my steps would be cut. It was never communicated to me that my connections would be buried under concrete. It is never communicated to me that my steps up to the garage would be damaged. I regret using Basement Improvements and wish I had chosen a more professional and responsible business. I regret not choosing TC Hafford. I choose Basement Improvements because the cost was lower, but with all the poor workmanship, my cost is higher. Don't make the same mistake I made, choose a professional company to do this work.
