If you've never heard of Taylor Park, don't feel badly. At only .03 acres, and often shielded from the street by dense hedges, it's incredibly easy to unknowingly walk or drive past this pocket park that's charmingly tucked amidst condo buildings and the parking lot for the Cathedral Basilica. Aside from a small sign marking the park's entrance on Taylor Avenue and the park's most notable feature, an open, ironwork dome, the park's intimacy can make it feel more like the private garden than a public space.
There's no dedicated parking to speak of and, as far as amenities go, the park offers little more than a small fountain to look at, a water fountain to drink from, some benches, a few tables and a meditative strolling path.
This quaintness works in Taylor's favor. Where nearby Forest Park is full of active opportunities, Taylor encourages (demands, even) relaxation. As a place best suited for reading, taking a quick break while biking or to for a quick stroll during a midday break, Taylor Park serves its limited role well. read more
