Been coming here since 1991. The Arboretum is a sanctuary for the study and appreciation of plants and wildlife. They don't consider themselves a recreational area or park but you are allowed to walk the trails and stroll the grounds during The hours of 9 to 4 except holidays. Beware: trails are steep. If you are an arborist or just like nature there are a few champion trees on site. And Widener university had become involved and is keeping this sanctuary in trust assuring its natural beauty remains intact.

This is a smaller greenspace, only 1 acre. So it's great for a picnic, just chilling in the…read moreoutdoors on a blanket, bug hunting, or maybe a careful game of catch. For those purposes, this is a sweet little escape in a relatively quiet part of the borough. The park is designed to be functional, and packs as much into the L-shaped acre as is reasonable. There is hardscaping and of course horticultural cultivation. One corner appears to have mini-amphitheater seating for talks or small performances, perhaps for classes to gather? There is a paved path that weaves through the park, great for strollers. There are currently no rules listed so I'm not sure if bikes, skates, boards are allowed? For me, this is a fun little loop off of Fifth Street as part of a longer walk, but I'd like to sit and enjoy some time too. This park is dedicated to black families who live/lived in Media, and their histories as they pertained to the town. I read this online but didn't really see any didactic about it at the park. I may have missed it? Or it's just meant to be a dedication and that's that. I get it, I guess the park is meant to be a park, and its history is accessible if anyone wants to Google it. I was so happy to see this land remain undeveloped for so many years, worried it would turn into the Mc Architecture popping up all over Media (and the new residents have the nerve to put "save our greenspace" signs out front). But the resident who sold this land to the borough really did save her greenspace!

You can tell the caretakers for this park put a lot of time into it. This is basically a bunch of…read morewoods trails, great for walking (the trails are a little soft so I wouldn't recommend bikes or wheeled anythings). They are great for runners or walkers. The paths are mostly all neatly trimmed in the warm months, with fresh mulch on the walkways. Some of the paths weren't trimmed recently, and it limited our walk because of ticks and possible poison ivy. But the ones under the majestic tall pines looked beautiful, and were very pleasant to walk. In the winter, these are great exercise in the snow (x-country skiing, snowshoeing or walking in some good boots). The entrance to the Upper Providence Park area is directly across from Rosemary Lane, off N. Ridley Creek Rd (the stretch between Rose Tree Rd and Kirk Lane). The areas near the creek get very muddy, so I don't recommend for certain dogs, or very young children. If you come prepared for mud you'll be fine. There are some neat cinder-blocks sunk into the swamp to make a stepping path across it to the solid ground on the other side (however, this area gets muddy often, so mud shoes would be recommended). The trails connect to the neighboring Louis W. Scott Memorial Park, and I am not sure if they are maintained by the same group(s) or not? The Louis W. Scott Memorial Park is an open field, with the ruins of a stone building beside it. The stone area seems to attract litterers, which is not pretty, and not sanitary or safe for children or dogs. Wish they kept that up better, but elsewhere it is clean and well-kept.
