Anyway, a head clearing hike / walk was necessary the other day and my sister recommended the park as a place that could accommodate that. I have to say, it's a great place. The park is fairy extensive and, you quickly get the feel that you are in a very rural area even though you are in a densely populated college town. It was a gorgeous morning Wednesday when I walked the Pomeroy trail which is about three and a half miles round trip from where I parked my car. There were a few runners out, along with some dog walkers and the occasional deer. Overall it was peaceful and quiet. If you happen to be in the area and need a respite, definitely check this place out!

Attended the Bellevue concert summer series. Most performances are on Thursday nights or Sunday…read morenights. Parking within the park was easy as there were people guiding us where to go. Although it was very crowded, there was plenty of room for everyone so it didn't feel overly crowded. There were food trucks and beer tents set up for patrons! A 50/50 was also going on! A really great night in the park!

It's also very beautiful and has lots of green. The only thing I'm not a fan of is that I currently do live in Delaware, but my license plate is from out of State so I still have to pay out-of-state license fee for the parking. Maybe they will soon change it so that they will take bills as proof of Delaware resident as well.

Walk along the path and see boats go past you. Best views in the city. It goes along the river for several miles. The Christina River is a nice river. Good place for watching boats. There's often joggers and walkers. Just a quick walk from the Amtrak station. The park also has a green area with benches and trees. It has beautiful views of the city. Mostly it seems pretty safe. The people here most often seem to be on the path walking.

There aren't many trees - it's not woodsy. Literally you can just walk down a long path and see the river. I came here because eBird told me it was a birding "hotspot" - but I didn't see one thing besides some Canada Geese and a few gulls. I don't think I'll be returning for birding or hiking. This pathway is really good for runners and joggers...that's about it, in my opinion. Oh, how could I forget...they also charge a fee for you to enter!! I just don't get it. There are so many other outdoor places where you can see more, do more, and pay NOTHING!

The grounds are well kept and the bathrooms were surprisingly clean. There are park rangers that come by from time to time. The day we went it wasn't crowded which is a plus. You do have to pay for parking $4 if you live in Del $8 if you live out of state. No complaints with this park. There are plenty of trash and with extra trash bags for easy clean up.

Still a small dirt road leading to the park, and the sound of the stream as soon as you get out of the car. I rock jumped out to the big rock in the center of the stream that was my favorite spot. Very relaxing and peaceful place, and I can not wait to go back. I showed my beautiful wife this place so special to my heart, and she loved it.

We drove around and saw the locals out and enjoying the beautiful vistas, the ballfields and getting exercise in. The topography consists of a large grassy meadow sloping upwards towards hills that overlook the Brandywine River. Here can be had many views of the city of Wilmington. Be careful. It's a really steep drop to the river. Thankfully, There are many trees planted there that would discourage those with intact brain cells from attempting a descent. History nerd moment 1: The park is on the National Historic Registry. History nerd moment 2: Rockford Tower was built as a water tower over 100 years ago. From what I hear if you climb those spiral stairs to the top there are some of the best views of the city. History nerd moment 3: A few examples of statuary that were well cared for and well preserved. Of particular note was a statue of Samuel DuPont in civil war military attire at the Tower Road entrance very close to the famous Tower Hill school. Wonder why Dupont got such an illustrious statue when Bancroft donated 59 acres of his property and Dupont had to be convinced by Bancroft to donate 9 acres? There must be a statue of William Bancroft in the park somewhere. I'm going back soon to find it.

Occasionally, you'll get a curious bee checking you out, but their harmless usually give a good sniff, and are on their merry way
