Great place for picnic-get together and many more My parents were here from India. We live in NJ and he wanted to meet his old friend who was also in the USA in the same time frame but in Washington. So we decided to meet in between and chose this park to get together. Glad we chose. For DE vehicle, the parking entrance fee is $4 and for out of state vehicles it is $8. This park has everything. You name it. Lake activities like Kayaking, boating, paddle boat, canoe, trailing, dog park, - zip line across the pond ( Go ape), Volleyball courts, trails for biking. They have divided the whole area into 4 parts. I chose area 2 as it was near the pond and dock. Ample picnic tables are there so not to worry about whether I 'll get it or not. There are lots of walking paths, picnic areas, and shelters. We paid $6 for 30 minutes for a paddle boat. Seating around the pond was so peaceful. Breeze and view of the pond, it was very soothing. Though I did no try Go Ape, it looked very exciting. Park also offers a dog park, which has a fairly sized off-leash area, a loop trail, and it goes up along the water a bit so dogs can swim. And of course camp, the best place to camping in whole DE Overall great place to have fun. Note: they don't have trash bins in the park so you have to collect your trash yourself and dump somewhere else. read more

This park is a great place for a pit stop or a full day of activities. The pond is scenic and peaceful, never crowded, but never empty either. You can't swim in the pond, but boating and fishing are allowed. You can also rent kayaks or paddle boats. Outside the pond, there are hiking trails, camping and picnic areas, playgrounds for kids, fields for various sports, and even a disc golf course. Perhaps best of all, there's an adventure park! It does cost extra, but it's awesome and totally worth it if you have time/budget to spare. It has zip lines, a sort of modified bungee jump, tree top obstacle courses... How can you not give an amazing park with so many well maintained features 5 Stars? In one park There is such great diversity. The trails are exceptionally maintained but TIP - download the map on your phone or scope out before you get started or you could be walking longer than you expected. Great picnic shelters and the Rangers make sure everyone follows the rules. read more

We wanted a nice place to bike a fairly short distance so we chose the 7 mile loop around the park. The trails were horrible for bikes - loose rocks, roots sticking up, holes - absolutely horrible terrain for a bike. Horses would love it and so would hikers, but there's no way I'd recommend this trail to someone who wants to enjoy themselves. We followed the arrows for the blue route but didn't come out where we were supposed to, so that added two more miles to an already terrible ride. read more

I came here for day trip to park and meet friends. Park is has one pound and sounding that there is two mail trail and 5-6 different camp grounds. It's very kid friendly and good for group and party. I completed whole yellow trail around 7-8 miles and it was good nice fresh experience and good weather. Only problem is there is no clear signs or indication for trail and also more information center. Park is clean and restroom also. Nice view point around pound. read more

I recently got into camping and Lum's Pond was on my list of places to try out. I have been tent camping and one downside of booking at Lums Pond is you don't really know what your site looks like til you get there. I was a T-01 which was shaded but everything is really open. This place is mainly for RV's so you can see all your neighbors. The other thing is if you want to swim, this is not the place. There are boating activities but no beach for you to just splash around. I did really like the 6.5 mile hike around the pond. It was exhausting but really good. Another perk is that there is a large off leash dog area which our pup enjoyed. Dogs can go swimming and I guess people but I don't want to swim where the dogs are. But there is a drone field close by so all day there was constant hum of drones in the background. This place is fine but if you want to really get away and tent camp, there are better places. read more

We do a ton of traveling. This is one of our favorite spots. Nice and large sites, fishing, hiking, biking. The staff at the campground and park office are super. They are helpful and take great care of the campground and park. Both the campground and park are clean and well-kept. Food that is close to the campground: There's a great little deli right down the street, Ocean Mart deli. You can get pizza, subs and ice cream to go. They also have some groceries. Not fancy but good food and service There's a sit down restaurant by the water called Grain H2O. Check it out. Neat place with a bar, date night specials on Wednesdays, and Bingo on Thursdays. Tender Bones BBQ has great brisket. I'm sure their other food is great. read more

I only camped here for a night while I was passing through on a road trip but as a solo female traveler I felt safe. Bathhouse was very clean and the site was spacious. If you are tent camping you cannot bring your car right on your site but the little parking section is close enough where it isn't an inconvenience. There is also a little store in the campground incase you forgot or ran out of anything. I didn't get a chance to go in but from what I could see it looked really cute. Would recommend! read more

I've been to Lums Pond many times with family and friends, mostly to picnic. There's plenty of space, and there usually is a crowd. The park has a lot of features, including volleyball courts, concession stands, a boat dock, trails for biking and hiking, at least one playground (with a huge slide), and fish to fish. We've gone out on the water, which was okay, but gets boring (for me, at least). It may not be worth the drive for some - I have plenty of parks near me - but if you're willing to go, you'll enjoy yourself. read more

Ok guys the reviews here do not do justice to the place... My husband, my dog and I went here for a night of camping . When we got there saturday morning the staff had all of our information ready and they were very friendly. They had a little shop where they sold basic stuff and fire wood. We paid 25 dollars per night and 4 dollars for 6 large pieces of fire wood. Our site was spacious and clean and quite reserved with trees around us. The bathrooms were clean and the shower was hot. Overall very relaxing place... Very peaceful. It is definitely for families! So if you are looking for a drinking and loud campground, this is not for you! I actually loved that they do not permit alcohol beverages and quite time starts at 10 pm. The park itself s beautiful and clean. The trails are long but not very difficult. They have a dog park where dogs can run off leash and even swim if they want. We also had a great time on the canoe. We paid 8 dollars for 1 hour of canoe. One little thing... I did not see as many trash bins as I wished they had so remember to bring extra bags to carry your trash out. read more

I've been here to hike along the Swamp Forest Trail and to kayak on the pond. The Swamp Forest Trail gets 4 stars and the kayaking on the pond gets 2 stars. I went on the hike at the end of the summer, so it was a pretty hot day. Fortunately, there are a ton of trees that come in pretty close along the Swamp Forest Trail, so there's a lot of shade; I didn't get very hot. The bad? The trail is really flat and at some points along the Swamp Forest Trail, you have to share the path with bicyclists, ATVers, horses and dogs. Horses + Dogs = Poop. I SUPPOSE I don't expect the horse poop to be picked up, but why not the dogs'? There weren't too many areas with poop. The areas of the trail where I did see poop had wide paths, so the piles were easy to avoid... although I really couldn't avoid the smell. I'm a gagger. Kayaking here pretty much sucked. I had only ever been kayaking on the Pacific Ocean before I went here. I guess I never really thought through going kayaking on a pond in the middle of Delaware. Not only was the water stagnant, but so was the air. It was really hot since there wasn't much of a breeze. I don't know if it's typical not to have any breeze in that area, but the day that I picked wasn't a good one. I don't know if I expected the pond to be just like Kailua beach, but the water was really still (I guess I mean relative to the ocean?), so there were a lot of bugs on the water. Yuck. I think I like to pretend that I'm an outdoorsy person when I'm really not. Can anyone recommend a not-so-flat and not-so-buggy place that I can go hiking? read more

A cheap way to enjoy the outdoors. Lums Pond State Park costs $8 a carload (out of state, $4 in) to park, but offers a vast number of options to explore. You can rent a canoe (our method of exploring for the afternoon) for $8 an hour. They have a handful of other water vehicle (paddle boats, kayak, row boat) you can also rent to explore as well. They rent by the half hour, hour, and day. While I didn't do much other than hit the water my first trip, there are other offerings. "Go Ape" has zip lining and high ropes courses. There appeared to be a frisbee golf course and plenty of places to hike as well! read more

Nice state park but bring your wallet if you want to take advantage of using the pond-- hourly canoe, kayak, and paddle boat rentals are available but they aren't cheap!! Also, it is $6 per car if you have out of state tags even if you come to visit with in-state residents-- don't bother trying to show their driver's licenses. There are lots of walking paths and picnic areas and shelters. There were lots of people here based on how full the parking lots were but it didn't feel crowded. If you want to try Go Ape, you will need to make reservations well in advance because they fill up quickly so we were not able to do that here (although we have done Go Ape in Williamsburg VA and it is tons of fun so well worth the effort to make the reservations!) read more

Excellent dog park. The trails are giving swamp serenity. Please note that there are lots of exposed roots on the Swamp Forest Trail. Not good for ADA needs and ok for trail cycling if you can handle some bumps. The disc golf course is fun with a mix of open areas and forested areas to play through. Easy to lose a disc though. Do not swim in the water and avoid letting your pet drink it if possible. Good playground for kids. Nice recreational spots and decent campground. read more

I adore Lum's Pond state park. In the spring and summer there is an abundance of different wildlife and plant life to see, and I recommend obtaining a book to help you identify different species of plant life, if you're interested. I've enjoyed monitoring on my own accord the cycle of life for many types of plants I've not discovered before. In the fall you can walk the trails as the leaves fall above and around you. I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 because it is not a park where you'll routinely find quiet tranquility. I visit DE state parks to get away from the noise of the outside world. Typically when coming here, it feels like a whole new world; calm, peaceful, surrounded by silence. I'm able to hear every cricket, frog's ribbet, the leaves falling or swaying, and the birds flying from tree to tree. Motor boats can be used here, and unfortunately the sounds of the motors of those boats permeates the entirety of the park. I find it hard to listen for the sounds of nature with the shrill buzzing of the motor boats in my ears. The Go Ape in the summer also lends your ears to a feast of people screaming in joy, but I don't find that so disturbing since it's refreshing to see that people are enjoying nature. My dismay of the noise of man-made machinery in the forest is a personal preference of course, and they are not too often in use here, so be sure to stop by and enjoy the beauty that is Lum's Pond State Park. read more

Well taken care of. Clean bathrooms. Nice laundry facility. We had a site with full hookups. Lots of space between sites (that's park wide). Nature Center was a bit lame but it killed a half hour on a rainy day. Trails were really nice. Fabulous place if you are a birder. I think we grabbed at least 10 life birds. Lots of other nature, too. The only downside were the flying bugs. I'll come back for sure. read more

Shitty people. Shittier park. They don't like what they call "dark people" and they say we have our music too loud. Yes I'm white but my baby father's are all black and it's just disrespectful. The park is dirty they let children swim in the dirty pond my child caught malaria from another child that was in the water I went to the pond people and asked them for assistance and they told me to call Christiana, I asked them to use they phone cus mine was dead and they said they don't allow people to use the phone. I said it was an emergency my child has malaria and they still made me walk 4 miles to a gas station to use a phone. Worst park ever. Don't go. read more

I've lived near lums for years and it's always a nice place to go when the weather is nice. You can rent out paddle boats, kayaks and the such to spend time on the water for a low price. It is a pond. So as other reviewers have stated, the water does not move much and you're in direct sun, so wear sunscreen. (I figured the whole "pond" thing made that all obvious, but hey). The recent addition of the Go Ape course seems to be drawing more people in. I have yet to try it, but it looks fun and will try it in the future. It is much more expensive than other activities offered, but if you complete the course it's likely well worth the money. The hiking trails are flat, so they are easy, and a large portion of the trails is shaded by trees. There are many areas with picnic tables and sports feilds. I've had many BBQ's near go ape, right by the water, and it makes for the perfect spot in my opinion. (Another reviewer commented on the fact that there is no swimming in the water. This area was once a beach, but after the water being tested years ago it was deemed unsafe for people to swim in, and I'm doubting that will change any time soon.) This spot is also great because there is a bathroom right there (which was once a full on locker room when the beach was useable.). Lums also has a dog park, which has a fairly sized off leash area, a loop trail, and it goes up along the water a bit so dogs can swim. Overall this park usually had very friendly/helpful staff, and it's great for a nice day outside. The only reason that I did not give all 5 stars is for trash. People are meant to carry out any trash that they bring in, but unfortunately many visitors throw their trash on the ground. read more

Lums Pond holds a very special place in my heart because I grew up in the area and have always loved it. There is something for everyone, but my favorite is the actual pond. It's huge! You can do anything from paddle boats, canoes, and kayaks. I've even seen small sized sail boats and motor boats, but not sure if these are owned or rented? I recently enjoyed a couple hours on the water just relaxing and catching some sun. The park is also great for mountain biking or having a picnic or even a cook out. I'm thinking you have to reserve in advanced for a pavilion, but it would totally be worth it if you're hosting a lot of people and want to have outdoor activities. They also have zip lining now, which I've never been, but saw that the reviews are great! A little pricey, but probably worth it. My only wish is that they had a better trail for running and maybe a sand area around the pond that would be a stand in "beach" to lay out at! Maybe in the next few years :) Note that it IS a state park, so 4 dollars entrance for in state residents per car. read more

We love this park! We rented a pavilion to host a BBQ with friends and just love it. As usual the grass was mowed and ready the pavilion was clean and ready. The staff was nice, plenty of parking and lost of space for activities. If you are looking for a place to BBQ you should consider this park! read more
