Fun signage and eye catching macarons just begs you to stop and stare. I first heard of this place…read morethrough my friends on FB and so I've bookmarked it to try. I was on a mission to reach their store front before they closed for the night. I was so excited to finally get here to see the adorable and whimsical characters on display. I had previously read that you can customize an order ahead of time should you want a specific character and flavor. Coolness. My choices were partially skewed to what flavors my family and I would enjoy. But also to the cute designs. Vanilla and Chocolate Nutella was a hit with my kids. Hubby liked the lychee and I enjoyed the Black Sesame very much. I have yet to try, but I did buy the Thai Tea and Ube (Yam) flavors. Was too stuffed after dinner to sample them all. BTW, they sell Rebecca's Cake Pops as well. For those that are not familiar, Rebecca's is a mom and pop run local shop in Long Island. The pops are very artistic and trendy. They also taste great. Moist and sweet, as any cake pop should be. Do note: this storefront closes early and it's cash only for the most part. While they accept venmo, they do not accept credit cards. Dang it. Also, it's not an enclosed shop, so check their website to ensure they're open during inclement weather. It's a street stall so the folks have to brave the elements. And management, if you're reading, can you get better boxes to hold these cute confections? I was worried my macarons would not transport well and they did get moved around a bit on my commute.

They also have great and reasonably priced sourdough loaves. I wanted to give their latte a try because I'd been disappointed by the coffee in the area. The service was quick, and I love the wooden furniture for a slightly rustic atmosphere.

Martha's is a staple bakery in Queens, now expanded into other boroughs, and they've done…read moreincredibly well over the years maintaining quality and consistency in their desserts. There's usually a line of some length during peak hours and especially around the holidays. You can tell by the sheer volume of baked goods and cakes available in their window displays that they sell a lot daily. This location is on the main drag of the little downtown section of Forest Hills, the baked goods in the front window display connect to a tall and long glass counter along the left side of the store that extends almost to the back. At the back middle and along the right side of the wall there's seating for about two dozen people at small cafe tables. They carry an assortment of traditional cakes (full and sliced), pies, cookies, pastries, cheesecakes, cupcakes, ice cream and coffee/tea drinks. A wide variety of flavors in each, so you're bound to find something sweet to satisfy most here. They are a classic bakery so from what I can tell, they don't carry items that are gluten, dairy or nut free. I've purchased their apple pie, fruit tart, berry napoleon, red velvet and chocolate fudge cakes from this or other locations in the past and they're all solid choices for desserts to share with a larger group, though I find a lot of their cake options to be on the richer side. My most recent encounter with their cakes came in the form of a slice of their seven layer cake $9.95 which is thin layers of yellow cake alternating with chocolate cream mmm pretty tasty, and their caramel cake $9.95 which had a layer of chocolate cake in the middle, sandwiched by caramel cream and white cake on either side. The latter had a pronounced caramel flavor that was enjoyable though a bit too much cream for me. My preference would be for their chocolate cakes over other cake flavors here. Their apple pie is one of my favorite apple pies anywhere tho!

The shop space is a little whimsical but overall warm, bright, and inviting. Parking is on the streets nearby since the shop doesn't have its own, and this makes sense because they are located between residential and business areas of town. About the green tea, as much as I welcome a lemon wedge in my water cup, I could really do without it in my boba tea. But it came with the tea, so there was no getting around the lemon 'contamination.' They apparently have small boba which is fine although I generally prefer bigger boba, and theirs was at least not overcooked and sweetened. I'd consider going back, but I'll say a hard no to lemon in my boba tea.
