We used the same accountant as the year prior. Upon doing our taxes for the 2023 year, it was determined that our taxes were done incorrectly for the 2022 year. Lisa Bagley also did them wrong for the 2023 year, so twice in a row. She said we owed over 12k in taxes. The reason we started with her was because my husband was 1099 and we needed help as neither of us had done those taxes before. She said she could help us. She then blamed us for everything because she didn't ask us any questions and we trusted that she would let us know what she needed to do her job. We were fined $108.81 by the IRS for having these mistakes. She wanted to charge us $977.80 which is almost double what we paid the year prior (around $525). I asked that she decrease our surprise bill by the amount of the fine as it was her fault the fine was incurred. If I didn't question her so heavily, our taxes would have stayed incorrect. As it was, I had to pay the IRS over $11k and they gave me a 5k refund once again because she did our taxes wrong. I had to make the payment to be on time so that is why I went ahead and made the higher payment. She is also charging us for some advice on a home sale which we never asked for? Including our home sale and purchase documents are part of the normal process of doing taxes. She has been incredibly rude and refuses to help us at all. I don't believe we should have been charged for having her re-run the taxes to fix her various mistakes and her inability to do her job effectively and efficiently. read more
