Wow! This came as a referral from a friend and it does not disappoint. The apps are so yummy. The arancini are so good I could have eaten a dozen. The garlic bread was fine, not as good as the arancini. If you are hungry, get the chicken parm, my god it is the largest portion I have ever seen! I ate one of the 3 cutlets they served. Most times when a place gives a ton of food it is ok, well this was fabulous. Super thin, light breading that remained crispy and just the right amount of cheese and sauce. The pizza was good as well. For dessert we had a well portioned flowerless chocolate cake which was paired with some vanilla bean ice cream. Divine! We sat in the restaurant portion near the secret door to the speakeasy so take your pick on what vibe you prefer. The wait staff were super helpful and responsive. Super impressed by this spot! We were SO happy that we got to sit in the speakeasy for dinner, because it was exactly the kind of vibe we were looking for! We came in here for dinner on a Saturday night. We made a reservation but you definitely don't need one and can just walk in. The staff was really polite. They have 5 TVs inside that play sports. There's no real ability to change the channel, so what's on is what's on, but it's fine. We ordered the focaccia and arancini as an appetizer and the risotto with chicken and lasagna as our entrees. While inside the restaurant we noticed there was a speak easy that entered through a vending machine. Our waitress offered us to go there. It was very cool inside and had a bar inside of it. The arancini was great and so was the focaccia. My risotto was very good. The lasagna was a little interesting for a lasagna, and very cheese forward, but was still fine. When we asked for a table for 2 the hostess took us back and opened up the soda refrigerator and there was a cool back room ! Nice music playing , very cool vibe . Tavola is one of our favorite restaurant in PR! We love their specials and happy hours. The food is real good! We always like to sit outside because it's great ambience! We have our favorite server Alanís, a beautiful & attentive girl who took care of us several times! She remembered even what each one of us ordered before. I had better expectations coming in than what we got . The appetizer was great. But the main entres chicken parmesan was mediocre and the gnocchi was wayyy too creamy . The pasta says it's homemade but was cold and tasted off . We came here as part of a cruise line excursion. The service was dreadfully slow. After being seated in the "speakeasy" section, we couldn't get service. After 20 minutes, all we had was water. The waiter came and took orders from part of the table and left. No idea why. And because we were on a shore excursion we were unable to leave. I thought the menu looked great but we had to order in a hurry so I didn't feel the chance to ponder it. The ambiance is nice - our group loved there was a room with a hidden door. We enjoyed pizza, pasta, mushroom risotto, drinks here. While the menu is nice balance - couple of people in our group were vegetarian and they menu could be adopted for all. They gave us a large round table, made conversations easier. 1st time coming here and it was beyond better than I expected. The wonderful woman behind the bar and who happens to also be the waitress was great. When I asked she recommended the lasagna and side salad. Well let me tell you they were fantastic and that says a lot when talking about just the salad alone lol. Service is top notch, just make reservations ahead as on a Saturday night the wait can be over 20min. The ambiance is also top notch. The food here is simply OUTSTANDING. We were in San Juan for a week. This is the only place we ate at twice and would loved to have eaten here more! Everything we had was notably really good. Lasagna, vodka pasta, gnochi with shrimp, caesar salad, margaritas. The second night might have been the first for our server. Nice atmosphere outside--lively, loud with rock music on speakers and saxophone playing at the restaurant across the street but we liked the positive energy. Ordered the lasagne that comes in a cast-iron skillet with a big piece of garlic cheese bread. It's made with Braised beef tenderloin. My son loved it. I had the TLT salad, which was arugula, goat cheese, toasted prosciutto and grilled red bell peppers with a tangy vinaigrette. Excellent. And we ordered 2 pizzas .... a pepperoni pizza (pizzeta - small pizza) and the Tavola pizzeta (Pomodoro sauce, Iberian sausage, pepperoni, Manchego cheese, mozzarella). Got to try this place on our last night in San Juan and the place did not disappoint! Every dish we ordered, we loved. It was a knockout. As starters, our group shared the Beef carpaccio, Polpete, Truffle mac & cheese, and the Vera pizza. Very hearty choices but we never regretted it even when we couldn't move after. For dinner, we ordered a delicious mix of pasta dishes and we all agreed unanimously that the showstopper of the night was the Gnocchi Creamy Pesto (ordered with shrimp) -- gnocchi tasted like soft pillows of pure delight. Tagliolini Vodka with steak bites and the mushroom risotto were a tasty second. Pro tip: For those who have not tried Tavola before, bring your appetite and don't over order. The portions are monstrous. The Chicken Parm could feed a family of 4 comfortably just to give you an idea. Atmosphere was also very cool. I went searching for the Speakeasy area and was surprised to find that the entrance to it was a hidden doorway disguised by a coke machine. My husband and I were on vacation during the power outage and at the same looking for pizza to take back to the hotel. Nothing was open:(. Then we walk by Tavola, it's kind of hidden so we did accidentally walk into the Chinese restaurant at first, but we found them, and they were open, but getting ready to close. They graciously offered to make us what we wanted quickly. We were so grateful for their hospitality. The restaurant is very clean and looks well maintained. They must be since they were the only pizza place locally that had a generator to stay open during the outage, so they're well prepared. There is also a speakeasy located behind the restaurant in an enclosed area! It was like walking into a VIP's only lounge. The pizza was delicious too, very tasty and plenty of toppings! We had a couple drinks while we waited and got to chat with the bartender who was so adorable and fun to meet! If you're in the area try it out! They won't disappoint. read more
