We got here and sat outside, which was really nice - in the middle of everything. We ordered the meatballs for an appetizer, which was amazing, and then we ordered another cauliflower appetizer, which was great too. Wife ordered Churrasco and I ordered Linguini Regina. Absolute GEM of a restaurant and let me tell you, I am an absolute snob for Italian food. My boyfriend and I arrived around 7:30pm on a busy Saturday night and were lucky enough to grab the 2 open seats at the bar because there was a wait for a table. This meant the bartender David was our server who was SO incredible. He was professional, incredibly efficient, kind, patient, gave us tips about the area, and made great dinner recommendations. He never let our water get below halfway full which I truly value too. Now onto the food - we shared the caesar salad, vodka pasta with chicken, and guavanoli. What a treat!!!! The caesar was large and fresh. The vodka sauce was more tomato based rather than loaded with heavy cream, which made it fresh and flavorful rather than super heavy which we enjoyed. Now the star of the show - the Guavanoli - a chicken stuffed crepe topped with mozzarella and guava sauce. David said tourists usually stay away from this because it sounds so different but it's the locals favorite. I can attest this has been one of our favorite meals of the entire trip, and we agreed the guavanoli was one of the most delicious yet unique entrees we've ever had. We're here for 2 more days and want to come back to get it again. The crepe wrapping essentially tastes like an enchilada, and the guava sauce is NOT too sweet. It's mixed with a red wine reduction so it has a slightly sweet edge to it, but is 1000% perfect with the dish and delicious. The prices are on the higher size but the portions are large and totally justify it. With the 2 of us, we ended up having a very decent amount of the vodka pasta as leftovers to take back to the hotel. We didn't order drinks, but David was whipping up incredible looking cocktails! All I can say is wow. I don't know how they get all of that flavor into the food. It was not over salted. The grilled asparagus was outstanding. The shrimp and the scallops were cooked properly. So many places either over or under cook the scallops. Our waitress was very nice. She checked up on us but did not appear pushy. We did not have reservations on a Friday night and got right in. I would eat here again. Like most restaurants in San Juan, it can seem pricy. Just remember where you are. It costs a lot to get products to the island. read more

Looking for some Italian food in Old San Juan, we stumbled upon Sofia's. Glad we did, it was just what my group was looking for! I got a ribeye (16 oz) with a side of fettuccine Alfredo. I didn't care too much for the Alfredo sauce, but my steak was good. The ciabatta bread with the cinnamon butter was also delicious! Service was great. I know you see the pizza, for Puerto Rico is was valid. Edible, sauce was very good, I don't normally like tomatoes as a topping but they are so fresh and flavorful here theres nothing to argue about. That Old Fashioned though. Everything. I love Barralito rum as is, but rum converted into an old fashioned is a win every time. Feels like a side plug, but this as a rum alone, one of the best you can get on the island! The ribeye had me eating from the bone in public. Theres no way around it, I don't care, I did not want to miss a single piece it was prepared so well and comes to the table SIZZLING. Don't be the table watching the sizzle walk someplace else. The stroganoff was ok, not as remembered, in which, just ok. There was a creamier element in the past that was no longer present. This felt more like a wine, a marsala sauce pasta than a stroganoff. Ok in itself, but not what we wanted. Overall, staff walked us in, they were extremely hospitable all throughout. The ambience was on point and food was great. 1st review, but likely my third time here. Will return again in the future! read more

This was a great visit! Dined in on a Sunday at 1pm when they opened. We had a reservation for 6pm but were able to change it. Service was a bit slow from our waiter especially being the only ones there for the first 45 mins. We were a party of 10 but our waiter was slow clearing our table so we had a lot of dishes from apps and empty drinks. We ordered a variety of apps. Champagne shrimp, the mushrooms, mussels, meatballs, cheese sticks! All of it was soooooo good! The garlic butter mussels and the meatballs were my favorite! I was full off of apps! For my entree i just got the chicken Alfredo -i wound give it a 7/10. It was good but just ok. The portions were huge! I barely took 5 bites because i was so full off apps! But would def be back because the food was great!!! FYI-they could only split checks into two and they do charge for water which was odd. read more

On the busy corner of the Old San Juan. So it was packed and can get really loud. But the food was delicious! Pedro our server gave us excellent service and my family and I love the food. Lobster and Shrimp ravioli were so creamy and perfectly made. Fettuccine was awesome sauce! Husband had the porter house steak medium rare and it was so juicy. Highly recommended. Also had the Sophia's appetizer which we could have done without. Margaritas pizza was perfectly thin and extra cheesy. I highly recommend this restaurant and my family will definitely return when visiting Puerto Rico. read more

It took us a couple of tries, but we finally got to eat at Sofia's. My daughter loves Italian food so we have to try the spot that was across from our Airbnb. We had to sit at the bar which I'm usually not a fan of, but the two bartenders were very entertaining and conversational. They suggested I order the champagne spaghetti. My daughter had scallops, probably with fettuccine. Instantly, we were enjoying the artwork on the walls of various gangsters from different movies. The Sopranos on one side and Goodfellas on the other. It wasn't until I walked to the ladies room that I see a large portrait of Sofia Loren that I realized it was named after her. I highly recommend this place for the food and the friendly staff. I had a really nice time there, even if it was at the bar. read more

Here on vacation and came across this authentic Italian restaurant in a old San Juan, as soon as you walk in your greeted by the staff, our waitress name was Ariana one of the Best waitress I had since visiting this beautiful place. My order was the Parmagiana was to die for!! The entire meal was super fresh made to perfection. I'm so sad this restaurant isn't back home I would be here weekly. Went here to have a quick drink when exploring San Juan. When delivering the check the waiter said to me "next time you go to a restaurant, let them know you only plan on having drinks so we can sit you at the bar" why would it matter? Your restaurant is empty. I felt this was very rude and poor service. They also had no soda because the fountain machine wasn't working. Instead was offered either ginger ale or soda water in a bottle which was flat. The only positive thing I can say is the "Sofia Spritz" was made well (aperol spritz). read more

The food was average nothing special. What really disappointed us was the service. Our server was rude, and we were charged for an item we never received. When we pointed it out, the waiter argued with us and, although he eventually agreed to remove the charge, it was never actually taken off the bill. I do not recommend Sofia's for anyone to visit . We visited during the Christmas holiday and had a very poor experience. The waiter initially served us tap water and only informed us after 10 minutes that it was unsafe--by then, even our kids had already drunk it. Service was rude while taking our order. We ordered plantain fry, but the receipt showed 3 plates while only 2 were served. When we questioned it, the waiter got upset, said he'd remove the extra charge, but never did and never returned to our table. Someone else handled the payment. This isn't about the price--it reflects the lack of professionalism. Most restaurants nearby were packed, while this one had plenty of seating. Now we understand why. read more

Great location, great service, and great food! We were traveling with 5 adults and a tween and were looking for something we could all agree to. Sofia's came highly rated online and did not disappoint. We did have to split tables to side indoors but that was fine because the tables were adjacent but not pushed together. I tasted the mozzarella sticks, cheese pizza, spaghetti and meatballs (which are beef), the chocolate soufflé and vanilla ice cream. I enjoyed all of it! I love this place!! I ate here back in 2019 just before covid and it was my first time trying Margherita Pizza Ever since then Margherita Pizza has been my go-to pizza. I have been a few times since then including last night. I was a little worried I wouldn't like the pizza as much since I have tried several other Margherita Pizzas now but it still was delicious The people I walked with to here all loved their food as well. I tried Sofia's for dinner with my friends after our excursion. It is beautiful on the inside and the server we had was very friendly. They specialize in Italian dishes and they had an impressive wine selection. I was not in the mood for pasta, but obliged to try something different after many Latin meals. I did not know what to order and relied on the waiter's recommendation of butternut squash ravioli and a side Caesar salad. BIG mistake. The ravioli needed salt. The sauce was delicious but the pasta was bland. I LOVED the freshly baked bread so much, that I ordered extra. I also enjoyed my salad. One of my friend's ordered a pasta with beef and seemed to like it, I think it was the the bolognese, but don't quote me on that. My other friend only ordered the appetizer of steamed mussels and bread and I wished that I would have gotten that! Her sauce tasted great and she really enjoyed her dish. For the price, I wish I would have opted for another dish. Overall, it was a nice experience and good service, but nothing I'd make a special trip to come back for. read more

Not sure how I really would rate this properly. Ate there tonight 6/7/25. Pedro the waiter was decent for the most part.. My girl got the scallops with spaghetti with some kind of lemon sauce, and I got the shrimp Alfredo. My shrimp was cooked perfectly for me and the Alfredo was fine. She gave me one of her scallops and I gave her one of my shrimp as we normally share . I didn't think the scallop tasted right even tho I ate it. She had me taste her spaghetti, and I thought it was disgusting. She said it was supposed to be a lemon sauce, but did not at all have a lemon flavor. She didn't like it at all either. I didn't tell her my opinion on the scallop to not sway her if she liked hers. She showed me one of her last scallops and it was like red inside. Something was bad about it. I gave her half of my Alfredo and half of another shrimp. When Pedro came over I asked if her sauce was supposed to be a lemon sauce, and he said yes. I said it didn't taste at all of lemon, and to be honest it was disgusting. Then I showed him the scallop and asked him.. is that the way a scallop is supposed to look? He didn't say one way or another , like he didn't want to admit it was bad. Nevertheless, he asked if we were done and he cleared or plates. He did not offer to give her another option, or take a little off the bill, or any kind of remedy for this. The bill came as if nothing was wrong. I still gave him a decent tip begrudgingly. I'm personally not happy they didn't try and offer her a different pasta at least. Pasta is cheap .... Pedro was good up until he did nothing to remedy the poor quality of her dish. My food was decent. We didn't go inside, so I have no idea how nice it is inside. We ate outside, and it was a nice breeze and pleasant. I started the review with a 3 star but changed it to a 2 star as her belly isn't feeling good after eating a few scallops. Both have really bad stomach pain and cramping. We were lucky to get a table at this highly rated restaurant. After about 15 minutes, I had to tell the hostess that no one had come to our table -- even to offer us water. (One waiter saw that we were sitting at the table; but he neglected to acknowledge us or find our server.) Once a server came to our table, the evening did not improve. The service was slow; and we felt neglected through most of the evening. It took about 45 minutes for our dinner to arrive. The food was very good. I had walked about 4 miles in some FashionNova shoes and had been turned away from an establishment I had bookmarked long before my trip to Puerto Rico! Texas sized meltdown in 5....4....3....2.... Came across Sofia's, for it appeared to be litty that Sunday night. We were told there was a 25 min wait but we're seated within 10 minutes. Very small on the inside. Fettuccine Carbonara: pretty average. The pasta was not Al dente. Felt a bit over cooked. Sauce didn't have that much flavor. Very mild taste. Tons of chicken and bacon Guavanoli: not sure if that's the correct name. This dish was excellent. The special Guav sauce was delicious. The crepe was soft and crunchy in the right place. The only complaint was the grilled chicken felt like it was frozen Tiramisu: no. Did not like at all. The whip cream was too sweet and so much of it.
