Very pleasantly surprised. Didn't even know this restaurant was open in northern Lambertville; what a delightful and tasty find. I think it may be located in the old Rooster Coffee Roaster space on N. Union Street nearest the northern part of town. We had reservations, and boy were they busy and LOUD!!! We were seated in a back room section, which we thought would be a win on volume, but heck, we were all having a fun time and drinking and eating. A lively place for groups for sure. As for the menu, it did take me a few read-throughs as there were many new ingredients to my lexicon, and I wasn't able to visualize some of the dishes from the description. No fret we did nail our first experience by ordering and sharing the Gnudi Di Granchio - ricaotta dumplings, summer crabmeat, corn sauce, charred corn, red pepper puree and scallion -- was delicious and the blend of the flavors surprised our taste buds and the Carpinone le pizze - sunday sauce, parmigiano, crumbled meatball and sausage, I have to fess up, I'm not a lover of meatball and sausage on my pizzia, why because no other place we've been used the RIGHT ingredients... this was a winner. Packed with flavor. I like to taste my meal. Our server, Matthew, was very patient with us as I mentioned we needed more time to review and make our choices. With so many good restaurants nearby, this is not a place i'll go back to. The food was so disappointing and we didn't realize it was BYOB as its not listed on their menu or wine list anywhere. Our server couldn't recommend anything from the menu either as she hadnt tried anything from it. Ordered a pizza (we've had better frozen pizzas) and the cavatelli. The amount of raw garlic was inedible, the sauce was broken, and then pasta was also undercooked. While the space was cute, its in a business center so kind of felt like eating at a mall. read more

Came with a nice group Tuesday night. Everyone was really into the pizza and when I saw the beet salad... I couldn't resist! It was very fresh and delicious and they're actually enough to share. Having been in the restaurant business for years I know a dirty restaurant when I see one. And when the menus came to us they were SO dirty. There is NEVER a reason to present menus with food on them. And the restaurant was NOT EXACTLY CLEAN. So disappointing, concept was a good idea but they need to clean up the place. Easily one of the best pizzas I've had in America. The crust is perfectly crispy, the sauce has incredible flavor, just enough cheese, and the pepperoni was delicious. It's so hard to find quality pizza especially Italian style but this hit the mark. I only wish I was a local and could order weekly. The staff was very friendly. We stumbled upon this place walking around Lambertville we were looking for somewhere to eat and my husband found it on yelp. I highly recommend this place. I have already been back twice. They were a little hidden from the main town although they do take walk-ins and do recommend a reservations if you are able to make one. They are a fairly decent size casual restaurant and the turnover is fairly quick with food. Service was great everyone super friendly. We did not have long wait time for our appetizers to come out nor our pizza. . Everything that we have tried there so far has been delicious. Can't rave anymore about the freshness of the salads and their unique twist on them peaches and burrata ( heaven) . Pizzas were equally delicious although I could just eat appetizers there . Tavola Rustica is a neighborhood little BYOB gem that seems to pop out of no where. For a Monday night, the place was seemingly empty but by the time it was 6:30pm, the place was jam packed. Fair warning- the place got INCREDIBLY loud to the point it was very difficult to hear one another across the table. The restaurant wasn't overly large, but service was quite slow even for a Monday. BUT I will say that the food was delicious. Our table of three split the Jersey tomato burrata salad, including beautiful seasonal peaches. Don't let the price scare you- it's a massive salad, great for sharing. We then split the carpinone pizza and the pasta special of spaghetti with shrimp and vodka sauce. The pizza was awesome and my type of pizza (I know it's subjective). Thin crust, crunchy but melted Parmesan, crumbled meatball and sausage. It was full of toppings but the crust still held up. Came here with friends on a couples date night. They picked the spot and they hit a home run!! We had reservations and waited just a bit to be seated as they were packed. Service was attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely next level beginning with the margarita pizza which we shared as an appetizer. We also shared the panelle board. The bread on the panelle board was amazing but the star of the board for me was the pesto. I ordered the Cuore Della Nonna (Meatball, braised beef shortrib, sausage, sunday tomato sugo, creamy polenta, arugula). My wife had the gnocchi special. The entrees were amazing. Tavola Rustica, located in a pretty non-descript multipurpose building on Union Street, offers up hearty Italian fare in a rustic/chic setting and a focus on wood fired pizza. Passing up the burrata board (non vegetarian cheese), we opted to split a pannelle board of pizza bread + crostini + seasoned ricotta + pesto + olive oil, and a ricotta + basil + garlic confit pizza. The bread on the panelle board was great: pleasantly chewy and just charred enough, though on the greasier side, while the ricotta was the star of the board - light and herby to cut through the grease. The restaurant is somewhat outside of the touristy area and it seemed to us that the clientele for the most part were locals. It was pretty much packed the entire time we were there. It seems that their main claim to fame are their pizzas but they do also have a small menu of steak, fish, meatballs, veal and pasta. There were 3 of us for dinner. We shared a large delicious appetizer of grilled Brussels sprouts and one member of our group had a nice size bowl of very good Butternut Squash soup with toasted pistachios. I opted for the Staggionale Pizza - with ricotta, buffalo mozzarella, figs, prosciutto, arugula and aged balsamic. (There was enough left over for lunch the next day.). It was very good. The other 2 in our group both enjoyed their Eggplant Rollatini - ricotta stuffed eggplant with Sunday gravy, broccoli rabe and creamy polenta. The carbonara was delicious and the egg sauce was deliciously subtle and not overpowering like most places tend to serve. The homemade gluten-free pasta was so good and fresh. We started off with the wild boar ragu crostini which were wonderful and a big portion! The meat was tender and went perfectly with the ricotta. We also shared a pizza and the veal parm special. The pizza was great! Very flavorful and not stingy with the toppings. The veal parm was the most underwhelming part of the meal. It wasn't very flavorful or meaty. Was looking forward to trying Tavola Rustica. The Menu offered much more than just Pizza and even though the Pasta dishes were a bit overpriced, it was a BYO, so we were all up for giving it a try. The atmosphere was nice, nice vibe and the Staff was very good. Two major issues I have with Tavola, one, the portion size was not proportionate to the entrees prices. You would have thought you were eating at a swanky upper west side NYC restaurant...... reality check, we were in Lambertville, NJ. The two pasta dishes pictured were over $20!! Mind you, the food was very good, just not enough of it for the price. The second issue while it really did not affect the evening, it will most likely be an issue in the future.... No Reservations!!! I have never understood why a restaurant does not take reservations, when I go out, I like to know there is a table ready for us. Would rather not wait an extended period of time for a table. They are however, willing to take a call when you are 15 minutes out and the table was ready for our party of 10..... isn't that a reservation? Something of note though, around 7pm the place was packed and anyone walking in would have had to wait. Service was great, we were not rushed and the pace of the Appetizers and Main Courses were great. Again, Staff was great as well. I don't think I would go back based on the price point and portion size as there are far better options that are cheaper with bigger portions. There are many positives here at Tavola and I wish them luck in the new location in Lambertville, but there will be no return visit for me. read more
