Being in excellent company is always the way to start a lovely evening. When they treat you to a quaint little Greek restaurant with some of the best feta cheese...superb! They were out of the "flaming cheese", but I look forward to trying it on my next visit. I enjoyed the Gorgonzola Chicken, it was rich, creamy and left overs for two! As I sat in the dining room this last Saturday evening, easily seated at 8pm, I was thrilled to even get a seat at this gem of a restaurant in crystal river. The cooler with deserts is by the door and I suggest you both check that out and leave room for them later. The canoli is huge and SIL raved about it. We enjoyed Musaca(sp?) and Pastisi with lovely glasses of wine. There is a wide selection of by the glass available to choose from. Food was as amazing the 4th visit as it was the first! Don't be shy to order meatloaf (yes meatloaf!) it was truly amazing!

Delicious! Great size and quality of the meal for price, quick service, very nice waitress, and they even box your left-overs for you (not many do these days!). Delicious, flavorful Calamari, good chicken pastas... my shrimp pasta bake needed a little more salt, but it will awesome nonetheless. My only complaints would be: A touch more salt overall, liquor (they only had beer and wine), and maybe needs a little updating out front... maybe a bigger, more noticeable sign, but its nothing out of the ordinary for any other mediterranean spot I have visited. read more

I'm going to give this restaurant another try. We are new to the area and have driven past it several times. I went around 1:30 so lunch rush was over and there was only one other couple there. I placed my order, a veggie pita with fries. Another couple came in while I was waiting, placed their order and they got their food before me. The waitress could see I was confused so she came over and said my pita would be out soon, the guy in the kitchen had never made one before and didn't know what to put on it. I thought to myself hummmm why not have him look at the menu, it lists all the ingredients. Hehhehehee. A few more people came in. There was one waitress when there should have been two. My pita finally came. I asked for ketchup, but she was busy, had to wait for awhile to get that, my fries were getting cold, and had to ask for oil for the pita, there was no greek dressing as described on the menu. The pita was just so so, a lot of bread, not much veggies, heavy on the onions, and dry. The fries were hot and yummy though even without ketchup. I wish I had ordered one of their specialties. I have a feeling if I had I would be giving this place 5 stars. I really want to like this place and I have a feeling that much of what they do is amazing, so I'm going to give it another chance. I hope I can change this to a 5 star rating. It is a pretty restaurant inside. read more

Taverna Manos - Clean, cozy, warm, nice looking restaurant. - Mediterranean Near Me - Crystal River, Florida

Well, similar issue that I've addressed in a couple of other reviews of ethnic places I've tried in my visit of central Florida: competition really does breed excellence, and where there is none, there is usually overpriced mediocrity. As you would imagine, there is not a plethora of great mediterranean dining establishments in this part of the world, so... It's a nicer establishment with only a little bit of Greek/mediterranean kitsch, and kind of an oddity, considering the location. The staff was OK also. The food was hit and miss. I had an Italian chicken pasta dish that was pretty good, but the rest (Greek dishes mostly) was only so-so and much of it quite bland. The hummus was the opposite--a rough chunky texture with a huge amount of raw garlic. Not bad if you like garlic, but not quite what you would expect from a hummus. Also, one of the side dishes came after we already finished the meal, which was a strange timing issue. Overall, it was OK, and if I lived in this area this would be a good option when you get tired of the usual stuff and want a interesting alternative and nice place to go to. read more

Stopped here after an appointment, the food was delicious. We all had Gyros and everyone loved them. Great pita that was so soft and fresh baked, the lamb/beef combo was perfect and so tender. Cannot say enough good things! A must for all! read more

Absolutely not impressed. Went in to this very cute little joint for breakfast and the server suggested the French Toast, as it was the Chef's specialty. Apparently, the chef excels at cooking dry, tasteless French Toast. It was a marble type bread, but obviously had very little egg mixture on it, as it tasted like dry bread. No amount of syrup would help that horrid plate, and I barely ate any of it. The coffee was TOO strong, and had a very bitter taste to it. On a positive note, the restaurant is very beautifully decorated and my server was very nice. But I'm thinking they need to hit up a REAL culinary school to get a decent chef in there, as the dude cooking that day, was subpar. Denny's has better chefs, and that's not saying much. read more

Awesome experience. First time there. It wasn't busy at the time we went. Wait staff is awesome and knowledgeable. It was hard to choose from the menu. I got the chicken Marsala and it was legit. The wife got Athenian Chicken and it was superb. We had desert as well, which all are made in house, it was wonderful. Great place we will be back. Outstanding and friendly staff and atmosphere. Food was ok, but well over priced for the quality compared to our home town of Portland, OR - which is expensive to live in (we came to see the manatees). My other half said what I was thinking when we left, "It seems like one of those restaurants that should be on those tv shows where they revamp the place." However, compared to what is offered for places to eat in the area this place is pretty good. Was bummed they didn't have spanakopita, saw in a previous review that it was really good. Despite it's short comings we are glad we spent our money on a local joint instead of some gross big box place. read more

There were two customers present when we arrived, an hour before close at Taverna Manos in Crystal River. Our server took our drink order, two waters with lemon and a glass of Robertson sauvignon blanc. The wine she brought, aside from being white, didn't resemble any sauvignon blanc I had ever tasted. It was bitter and heavy. When our server revisited our table and I commented that it was the worst sauvignon I'd ever had, she informed me that it was chenin blanc and insisted that it was what I had ordered. I insisted back, of course, that I would never have ordered chenin blanc since sauvignon is all I ever drink- for years now. She agreed to pour me what I had ordered in the first place, showed me a bottle of Robertson sauvignon blanc, and then didn't open the bottle in our presence. The second glass tasted just like the first; bitter, heavy, and awful. My partner ordered cabbage soup and a salad for beginners, and I ordered a small side salad and appetizer sized calamari to be served together as my dinner.Before my partner was even half way through his soup, our dinner arrived. I complained that it was premature. The server left the food anyway and walked away snickering. I called the restaurant the next day to speak about our experience with someone in charge. The owner answered and informed me that she already knew all about it. I told her that I wanted to share my own version. She agreed to listen, and then she began talking over me, arguing the server's version. Then she began lecturing me about how Europeans eat their salads at the ends of there meals. I had already informed the owner that I have forty plus years experience in the food business, serving, cheffing and managing at four and five star venues. I didn't need her lecture on how to serve salads. It is clearly the earmark of insecurity and unprofessionalism in any business to tell one's customers off, and, in the restaurant business, it is the kiss of death. A final note: My partner ordered lemon chicken scallopini as an entree. It's description read sauteed chicken, capers, and artichokes in lemon cream sauce with bacon crumbles. No mention of roasted garlic was made, and yet it predominated so entirely that neither of us could taste anything else. This place is for the birds. read more
