I see mixed reviews but our experience was great. It was away from the crowd and down a quieter street. Food was great and prices were very reasonable. We thought the wait staff was very attentive, but I could see how some were put off by the pushy waiters. After 2 weeks in Italy and having to beg for the check at every meal, the quick pushy response was welcome and once finished we could get on with our evening and not sit at a table for 30+ minutes trying to get the bill and pay.

We were walking by looking for dessert and were lured in by the waiter. We each had a drink and dessert. I got a chocolate almond cake that was good, though didn't taste like almond and was too sweet, more like as candy bar and my friend got a tiramisu cake. It was pretty good. Cute outdoor seating. The pizzas that others were ordering looked good.

We stumbled upon this place while walking around one evening in Sorrento. Friendly and attentive service, good wine and good food. Eggplant Parmesan was outstanding and the pastas were fantastic as well.

This was Pompeii.

We loved it so much, went back a second time. We passed…read morethis place on our walk to the center of town. Chuckled that it was an English pub in Italy. (We came to appreciate any pubs we encountered in Italy). Then one rainy night we ducked in for a break, ordering beer, chips and a couple entrees to share. The rain, the atmosphere, the good food, made for an enjoyable night. Then after a full day out and about, Piccadilly was beckoning. Once again it was exactly the comfort we needed. Good drinks, good food and great service. It's got a cozy atmosphere, regardless of the time of day. The staff was friendly and informative, no issues whatsoever. I know there's a popular pasta place around the corner (you pick pasta shape, sauce, etc). But if it's a hearty steak or burger, sandwiches, best bean soup, charcuterie, chips, etc. Then drop by! (Check Google maps for lots of food photos)

At first, I thought there was some confusion, but it became clear that the server was refusing to help us. He directed us to another server who was on break and ignored our questions. Later, I overheard him speaking English to other European patrons. We had a prosecco and a negroni. The Negroni was slightly watered down, but the house prosecco was good. However, the hassle, especially on vacation, wasn't worth it. There are plenty of other lovely places with great ambiance, service, and reasonable prices. Save yourself the aggravation. Also, check out the bathroom--pictures below. This was around 10:15 p.m with several tables being served and actively accepting more guests.

The Dutch Pub

Yay!! The first to write a review for the Dutch!! No pressure…read more.. It was my first week in Italy, about 7 years ago. My ex and I were strolling down a narrow alley and came upon this pub, The Dutch. The bartender was young with barely tamed long hair and an excellent grasp of English. We pulled up stools, ordered a strange red beer called Affligem and struck up a conversation. About the 12th time we asked him to translate something for us, he breaks out the largest dictionary I have every seen and not-so-politely tells us to look it up. We were hooked. The Dutch became our hangout for the next 2 years. But alas, all good things must come to an end... I just returned from a trip to Gaeta, my first in awhile. The Dutch is timeless. Many things are the same as they were...the quality food and drink, the warmth of the owners (it's a Mother/Father/Son enterprise), the regulars--both Italian and American. There were also a few upgrades...wi-fi, wii, a multitude of absinthe varieties and ravioli night! Not your normal raviolis, mind you. It's mama's recipe and these suckers are BIG...2 are the same size as a small plate, filled with meaty, cheesy goodness. Yeah, baby. So enough reminiscing, already... The Dutch Pub focuses on fresh, authentic food in a fun, pub atmosphere. Pizza, pasta, burgers, sandwiches, seafood, soups, dutch food (with 24-hour notice)...the menu is pretty robust for a small pub. Much of the produce is from a local garden. Dough is made fresh daily. Even the sandwich buns are house-made. To the bar. The draught beer is pretty unique for the area--Affligem, Wicske Wheat, Murphy's Stout, and of course, Heineken. They have a large menu of shots, and like I mentioned earlier, several varieties of absinthe. And they serve Illy Coffee, yum. The best thing is that The Dutch is thriving even through the recession...just means they'll be around the next time I visit too!! Thanks Yvonne, Rino and Maurizio!!

Good music, a large selection of good beers, and everything on the menu sounded tasty. We got the bruschetta roulette for a starter. The flavor was good and one of them had a surprise habañero tucked in there. I wound up picking that one. Wow! Quite the punch. Then got a super spicy burger and a super burger. They were delicious. You may not find this place unless you're walking down the alley, but I highly recommend stopping in if you get the chance.
