It's near Jacques Cartier National Park so if you time your trip around fall foliage as I did, you can enjoy your pastries surrounded by the colors of the fall season. The pastries are everything I imagined -- super flakey and delicious. Located outside Quebec City, it was said to be the best pastry shop in the area. I don't think you can go wrong. You just point at whatever is calling you. There was line, but the line moves swift. Is it strange that I get happy and excited when I meet fellow Filipinos. I find comfort in meeting them and it always feels like meeting family away from home. There was a group of them working at this bakery in Stoneham. They were all smiles and very welcoming to me the English speaker in this French speaking province. If you're in the Quebec City and you have your own car, I recommend a visit to Pascal and working off your carb loading with a walk through Jacques Cartier National Park.

Beautiful settings, beautiful view, feast for the eye and the taste buds. We got some bread, a piece of cheese, some jam, an almond croissant and coffee and had the most enjoyable time. Now I have to confess I fell in love with french bakeries when, years ago in Paris, I came across chocolate pear tart in a small crowded boulangerie. It was, and still remains, the most satisfying, mouthwatering pastry I've had; chocolaty but perfectly balanced with pear and kinda light, with a perfectly rich crunchy crust... and I've been looking for this tart anywhere I go! no kidding! and, "Eureka! Eureka!" enough said!

La Maison Smith at 23 Rue Notre-Dame in the heart of Old Quebec City is pure magic. I'm still…read morethinking about it weeks later. Picture this: soft snow falling on the cobblestone streets of Petit-Champlain, fairy lights glowing, and the warm light spilling out of this beautiful little café. I ducked in both mornings of my short trip and could have happily stayed all day. The interior is perfect Québécois charm: exposed stone walls, wooden beams, cozy lighting, and that unbeatable smell of fresh baking. First morning I ordered the pistachio latte and the quiche Florentine. I would legitimately sell my firstborn for that pistachio latte: silky, perfectly balanced, with a rich, natural pistachio flavor that no syrup could ever match. One sip and I was ruined for life. The quiche was flawless: buttery, flaky crust, creamy spinach-and-cheese filling, baked to golden perfection. Absolute breakfast heaven. I braved a full-on snowglobe blizzard the next morning just to come back. This time I paired the same life-changing pistachio latte with the almond croissant. I'd hand over my other kid for daily access to these croissants (kidding... mostly). Impossibly crisp and flaky outside, cloud-soft inside, generously stuffed with fragrant almond paste, topped with toasted almonds and powdered sugar. I ate it slowly by the window while the snow piled up on Rue Notre-Dame and honestly felt like the luckiest person alive. The baristas were friendly, the vibe warm and unhurried, and everything was flawless. If you're in Quebec City, make La Maison Smith non-negotiable (and budget time to visit at least twice). Five stars isn't enough. This place is winter-morning perfection.

We both ordered lattes and almond pastries--hands down the best coffee and pastry of the trip! The atmosphere was lovely, too. From our little stools at the bar, we could sip our lattes while people-watching in the square outside. See you tomorrow and the next day too, Café La Maison Smith!

It's located in the very popular office park on Lebourgneuf. it's great to see a local outfit option instead of the brown river water that Tim Hortons offers up. The vibe in here is nouveau yuppie. It's a place that's more comfortable than a Starbucks but similar in interior design. Soft accents make for a comfy experience place for you to hold a small meeting or place to pop in for work during the day for an hour or two. Their coffee is outstanding also. On my few visits I've had their Cappucino in a small format which has been quite creamy but nice and strong. Not sure the blend of beans that they use but on the TV monitors they show what looks like a ecological sustained production of coffee. The video plays in a loop but it's eye catching as you are trying to glance up. The clientele is more upscale and professional working people. Just a word of caution we found out on a few visits a few peeping nosy customers appearing to listen into our conversation. Remember Quebec is not a huge city so you may want to speak in code if your business or conversation is of more a private nature. This is a great place for coffee. When in QC in the area I'll be back!
