a piece of cake and a cup of coffee

This is a nice little cafe and women's clothing store. We stopped here for coffee snd a mid morning snack. I had an i ed latte and my wife had a hot cappuccino. For a snack I had a chocolate croissant and my wife has the date square. We thought the coffees were excellent. We ended up buying beans so we could make more at home. The croissant was good. My wife really liked the date square. Unlike the US, Quebec does not add sugar to the dates. Overall, we were please with our snack.

Super cute boutique and coffee shop. Pastries look amazing, pistachio latte was perfect in every way. If we lived here I would be a regular

Located in the Quartier du Petit Champlain -- the very pretty commercial district of Québec City in…read morewhat is known as the Vieux-Québec-Cap-Blanc-colline Parlementaire - is the relatively new shop, La Malle Aux Souvenirs. It's philosophy of "perfect gifts in all price ranges" is spot on, at least as far as ALL price ranges. If you've got several C-notes to spend on intricate models of 18th Century sailboats ... or want to spend just a few bucks on a small jug of pure-Canadian Maple Syrup, La Malle Aux Souvenirs is your place. While we English-speakers think of "souvenirs" as meaning kitschy stuff we buy from gift shops on vacation, the French word actually means "memories" ... La Malle Aux Souvenirs is loosely translated as "The Trunk of Memories." It is an apt name, as the things you will buy here are not trinkets, but memories. In other words, high quality. If you want high-quality local condiments, jams, and vinegars, you'll find the best of Délices de l'Ile D'Orléans products on La Malle Aux Souvenirs' shelves. Essentially translated, "Delights of Orleans Island" brings the vibe and flavor of the isle that hugs Quebec City. Savonnerie des Diligences, the Austin, Québec soap-maker with the beautiful scents and dynamic illustrations on their packaging can be found at La Malle Aux Souvenirs in abundance. And maple syrup and other maple products .... boy do they bring it! Not only is it 100% Canadian, but most of it comes from Québec. This includes Coaticook, Québec's famed La Ferme Martinette line of high-quality maple syrups, sugars, and other maple-based products. Also, if you're into glass figurines, especially colorful ones of all kinds of animals, you'll want to make a stop in here. And then the usual souvenir-shop faves like stuffed animals, flags, bags, and clothes emblazoned with "Canada" or "Québec." But since there is such high-quality stuff, most of it I haven't seen in other gift shops throughout Québec City. If you want to make a "Trunk of Memories" from your time in Québec, La Malle Aux Souvenirs is a great place to start!

For those unaware, this store is an extension of the "du Lys" brand that includes Québec Urbain (see my earlier review), Boutique Expression, Boutique Mouche à feu (jewelry and fashion accessories), Boutique Frada (women's fashions) ... all within, literally within a 250-meter radius of each other. Je te chie pas. This kind of voluminousity lends itself to a lot of good stuff: Hoodies, shirts, socks, stocking caps, baseball caps, sports team gear (defunct-team-heavy, Nordiques and Expos), wallets, jewelry, magnets, toys, shoes, bags, pillows, license plates, mugs, glasses, and a whole bunch more. MANY items have the requisite "Canada" and red maple leaf on them. They also show plenty of Quebecois spirit with an abundance of items with Azure blue & four fleur-de-lis' that make up the Province's famed flag. Souvenirs du Lys, oddly enough, seems to also try to compete with 365-day-a-year Christmas store La Boutique de Noël de Québec ... yes, during my visits in JUNE, they have a section with Christmas stuff. Also check out their totem poles and other indigenous souvenirs ... good stuff. While some prices are eyes-popping-emoji high, if you want to see a lot of high-quality souvenirs, give a visit to Souvenirs du Lys.

Wandering the narrow streets that are laced between the historic buildings makes you feel like you are in the heart of an old European City. The Quartier Petit Champlain is the oldest shopping district in North America and a great place to buy souvenirs for your friends. Here, boutique shops and cozy cafes spill out of restored houses. A fun fact: One of the neighborhood's houses belonged to Louis Jolliet, the French-Canadian explorer credited with discovering the Mississippi River. The stone structures that line the pedestrian-only streets now house a wide variety of shops, services, and restaurants. This is the perfect place to visit for strolling and meandering, and it's a truly lovely area year-round. Found in the Quartier du Petit Champlain shopping district in famed "old Québec" City, you'll find…read morea store that has carved out quite a nice -- and unique -- niche, in an area with stores trying to find one amongst the throngs of international shoppers. Artnika is no gift shop: it's here to sell and support the creations of artists and artisans both local and international. Artnika is relatively new, having being established by Yolanda Santos and her daughter Gisel Campos Santos in 2013. It is definitely a lovely place. There are so many items, I can't do it justice here. But, I'll give you a few of their offerings that caught my eye. They have handcrafted jewelry .... if you're into originality and hues that POP, you've come to the right place. If you're into purses, you'll be hard-pressed to leave without one, as their offerings provide a rainbow of colors. I was particularly drawn to some of their wood items, especially their watches made of wood. Yes, you heard that right, watches made of wood! (Don't worry, you won't get splinters as the watchbands are made of leather!) Then, the art! There are tons of framed paintings. While "a little bit of everything" would be an apt description, I would say there is somewhat of a focus on cities and cityscapes. Still, you'll find children, animals, nature, etc., in several depictions Artnika is selling. There's also a strong focus on the Québécois artists. For one, I was drawn to both the beauty and humor of long-time local ceramist Pauline Pelletier's clay sculptures of cats, birds, and other animals. She seems to love color, shape, and shimmer (many of the faces are masked in a gold-like substance). The focus is quality at Artnika, so don't expect a ton of bargains. For example, they sell 3-Dimensional cards by Swing Cards. They move, they pop, they are amongst the most intricate cards I've ever seen. And they are $10 a pop. Pricey, but totally worth it, especially for your kids. You may not be looking for art in Québec City. Or, better said, you didn't know you were looking for art ... until to stopped at Artnika!

Upon the first visit of my then-fiancée and I, during the frigid tail end of January, we were greeted by a young lady named Laura. We explained the color scheme of our upcoming wedding and she instantly comprehended our desires, to the point of breaking down colors by percentages. A few minutes later, a more senior person came in and instantly undid all the understanding that we and Laura had come to, recommending colors outside of our palette and, frankly, dated and beat designs. We left the shop rather depressed. Time passed and Laura contacted us, asking if we still wanted Fleur D'Europe to provide flowers for the wedding. We responded that we would indeed contract with Fleur D'Europe, but only if she was responsible for the design. We provided photographs of our inspirations and a list of what arrangements we needed and Laura got to work. Every arrangement that Fleur D'Europe provided for our wedding was absolutely breathtaking! Superb. Flawless. Each item, from the bouquets to the table arrangements, right down to the corsages surpassed even the best we could have imagined. I probably shouldn't admit it, but the bride's bouquet actually brought a tear to my eye with its beauty. I will post photos once they are available from the photographer. Mary Lu and I wish to personally thank Laura for the work she performed to make our wedding beautiful. Due to the exquisite arrangements, pricing in line with competing florists, as well as the convenience of being near old town wedding venues, Fleur D'Europe has earned this 5 star review and my highest recommendation.
